  • We started off slowly. USC was running the ball well and the Trojans scored two easy touchdowns. I think that Scalley initially miscalculated some things. However, Scalley made amazing adjustments and USC did not have another TD drive the rest of the game. (They did score an 11-yard TD after the punt return.)

I give Scalley credit for his…[Read more]

  • I did not want the PAC12 to dissolve. It makes more sense for us to play in a regional conference. All of these conference realignments are getting out of hand and I hate it.

That being said, we are looking like arrogant fools complaining about our new conference. IMO we should be hoping for our new conference to be very successful. There is…[Read more]

I have disagreed with some of Whitt’s secrecy policies. I believe I can still be a big fan of his and disagree with him from time-to-time.

I do agree that this season “may” end up being his best ever because of what the staff has done with so many injuries. We may not have always won pretty, but Whitt obviously does not care about style points.…[Read more]

  • First, we need to see how this season goes. If Rising is truly committed to coming back, this is what I see.

If Barnes ends strong, he goes to another team like a MWC team where he may have a chance to shine. But, he seems like a loyal Ute.

I would try to convince Johns to change positions, probably WR. He has great speed and size and might…[Read more]

  • ProudUte started the topic Last night gave me some hope in the forum Football 1 year ago

I admit that after the debacle at Oregon State, I had little hope for our injure-riddled team. I did not see how we could compete with the elite PAC12 teams. I saw some positive things against Cal, but last night really gave me hope.

We still will be missing 2 of our top 3 QBs, 3 of our top 5 running backs, our top two tight ends, a starting…[Read more]

  • ProudUte replied to the topic Lander Barton in the forum Football 1 year ago

Whitt said a lower leg injury. Hopefully, not another ACL injury for the Utes.

  • Yes, I don’t blame the D for that last TD. That was on the special team’s punt coverage.

  • I say no we have not.

He has always had someone looking over his shoulder and really has not been the long-term starter. Now he is the guy for the next 6 games, he will have a chance to develop and gain confidence.

(I admit that I was not high on Barnes being the guy at the first of the season, but I will gladly eat crow.)

If he pulls off a…[Read more]

  • And 14 of those points were in the 1st quarter. Congrats to Scalley and the D for figuring things out and shutting USC down.

  • Whitt just announced this. No surprise.

  • ProudUte replied to the topic Lander out for the season in the forum Football 1 year ago

That really hurts. Dumuni needs to step it up now. He has the experience we need. He just isn’t the complete athlete that Barton is.

  • This is just one old guy’s opinion. I think Ritchie and Bishop can handle the safety positions. Vaki has made this offense go. Vaki is also a great defensive player but he is amazing on offense!!! We need him on offense if we hope to win against Oregon and UW.

I realize many may disagree with me and that’s okay. I just like what I see from…[Read more]

Barnes has developed. He played badly against Baylor and the coaches made a change at QB. Barnes made a huge mistake on the pick-6, but overall he has a stud.

  • ProudUte started the topic Lander Barton is injured. in the forum Football 1 year ago

He is on crutches. It will hurt big time if he is not available next Saturday.

I can’t believe how many injuries we have had.

  • ProudUte replied to the topic Forgiveness in the forum Football 1 year ago

    You are forgiven!!!

  • Remember when Lloyd missed the first half of a game two years ago? Whitt decided he wanted the ball first in that game. If Utah wins the toss today, do they take the ball and hope for a 7-minute drive? Obviously, Whitt wants to limit the USC possessions with Bishop absent.

  • They talked up Utah’s defense but made it perfectly clear that Utah has little offense without Cam Rising.

In the end – I don’t think anyone at the table thinks Utah can win because of their offense and because Bishop will not play the first half. Obviously, losing Bishop is a big deal. However, I hope Williams goes after Ritchie. I think they…[Read more]

  • Our 2022 defense was not great last year and that was with an offense that kept the ball longer than the 2023 offense. Why are we so much better?

    We lost an All-American CB.
    We lost a starting linebacker.
We lost a starting safety, but I think Vaki is much better than Herbert was on his best day.
We have had numerous injuries; i.e. Pepa, Tafuna,…[Read more]

  • ProudUte replied to the topic Concerns for tomorrow in the forum Football 1 year ago

I think that most of your points are valid. I think the stat about road wins against bowl teams is almost meaningless because they were all played in different years and a variety of different circumstances. Would we feel better about a home game? Of course, we would.

Actually, I do not know what to feel exactly because this 2023 team is…[Read more]

  • Dave Bartoo, a successful college football and NFL statistical analyst made an odd prediction on Riley’s show.

He said if USC has a false-start on their first possession tomorrow, Utah will win the game.

    Let’s see what happens.
