This is my “subjective” list of Utah’s top five QBs in history.
1. Alex Smith (1st picked in the NFL draft – need I say more?)
2. Scott Mitchell (Set a record for 619 passing yards against AFA. He had great stats but the Utes had no defense.)

I mentioned below that Whit had said that Rose was separating himself from Johnson. Now I found this article going into more detail. Not a lot is said about Barnes in this article.
Is Rose QB2?

In an interview after practice yesterday – coach Whitt said that there is some separation between Rose and Johnson. Nothing was said about Barnes, so I don’t know if this means that as of yesterday Rose was QB2 or not. Whitt did say that Johnson had been hobbled some and that there was a long way to go this spring.

You may or may not like coach Prime and you may think that he will fizzle out coaching a P5 team. However, you cannot argue that he is not making an impact in Boulder. They have sold out their spring game and ESPN is going to broadcast the game. That doesn’t even happen at Georgia.

When something happens – we will hear about it. The speculation is all over the place and starting to get annoying.
I am confident our Utah will end up okay (whatever happens) because we have an established football brand.

I ran into a former Ute QB on Saturday. He has remained close to the program. We were talking about the upcoming season and I said that I was concerned about Cam being ready to play by game 1. He quickly responded, Cam told him that he is fine and will be ready to play.

Let’s assume for a moment that Cam is not ready to play by September. We have two four-star QBs. We have a high three-star guy coming in and Barnes who has some playing experience.

According to this article – 3of the 4 top college QBs will be playing in the PAC12 this year. Quite impressive. Our defense will be tested this season.

For this ranking – I left our Utes out. This is my early thought on how the teams will finish the season:

1. Washington
2. USC
3. Oregon State
4. Oregon
5. UCLA
6. Washington State
7. Colorado
8. ASU
9. Arizona
10. Cal
11. Stanford

Bill Riley said that since ND lost their Oline coach – bringing Harding along with him was part of the deal.
Bill also said that ND is traditionally cheap when it comes to paying coaches a la BYU. Their current coach makes less than half of what KW makes. Considering the money that ND has and makes – this seems odd to me.

They are just behind Stanford. That is amazing. Congrats to the team. They are representing Utah well!!!
They could be a number 1 seed if they are able to win out.

That is a horrible way to end a SB. How could they call that holding? I had no dog in this fight, I just think that was a bad ending to the football season. Make KC earn it.

According to this article, Utah has the most returning production of any team in the PAC12 (tied with USC). We are ranked 5th on offense and 45th on defense. I think our defense will be fine with some incoming talents like Richie, Fano, etc.

Returning Players

I was shocked. We have the former PAC12 first-team QB as our starter. I knew we wouldn’t be in the top three because of the transfers – Williams, Penix, and Nix. But, 8th – really? I certainly hope we are better than that. Also, no mention of Johnson in the article. He goes into great detail on the backups of other teams.
