  • We beat LIU 89-48.  I have no idea what that tells us about our basketball team, but it was a win to start the season.  I hope we win at least 16 games this season.  I would like to see us end up in about 6th place in the conference.  All of this would show improvement.  It will take a few years to get our basketball program back to where it was…[Read more]

  • Honestly, I am not worried about this game.  Stanford’s football program is in shambles.  Maybe this is what bothers me.  We have a very important game coming up on the 19th.  It is sandwiched in between games with the two worst teams (by record) in the conference.  I think this is the definition of a “trap” game.
However, if we have the RBs to…[Read more]

Sorry that I am late with this.  I got one last round of golf in today.
We will be honoring seniors and some underclassmen this Saturday.  He would not say which underclassmen would come out.   He did say that it may be about 8 players.
We play well in RES because of the fans.
    Van Fillinger had a season-ending (lower-leg) injury.
    We have used…[Read more]

  • However, I got multiple thumbs-down votes when I questioned his effectiveness last night.  That is fine because everyone has their own opinion.  I just want everyone to be clear, that I would not trade Cam for any other QB in the nation.
That being said, he was not at his best last night.  It is probably because of a variety of reasons. i.e.,…[Read more]

  • We did what we needed to do to win big but the injuries really concern me.  Cam is not effective with that brace on.
I was thrilled with Johnson and Jackson.  But, sad to see Jackson injured.  Has anyone heard how he is doing?  Also, worried about Glover’s injury and Bernard is not 100%.  The defense played much better in the second half.
    So,…[Read more]

  • Rising? Kincaid? Thomas? Bernard?

  • Since we are playing the Wildcats this weekend – I considered which games against Arizona were the best and the worst.
    The Best
In 1972, we played Arizona at home on our newly installed astroturf.  We played poorly for three quarters and trailed the Wildcats 27-0 going into the 4th.  I wanted to leave the game.  However, I was talked into…[Read more]

  • He said in his interview with Riley that he has as much game film as anyone else going into the draft.  He also said that coming back for a 6th year would be hard.  However, he said he is a month or two away from making that decision.
I want Kuithe to do what is best for him.  He doesn’t owe the Utes anything else.

  • My top 3:
    1.  In the 1978 BYU game, we trailed 22-17 late in the 4th.  We got inside the ten and made some mistakes.  We had 4th and 19 when Randy Gomez hit Henry for the game-winning TD.
    2. In 1994, Utah and Colorado State were undefeated and highly ranked.  We led 35-28 late in the game.  CSU had a great drive that took them into the…[Read more]

    Arizona has a great offense.
Barnes did an admirable job considering the lack of reps.
    NO SEASON-ENDING injuries.
Cam had a little setback on gameday making it so he could not play.  An injury got worse.  He was right on track to play.
Gameday decisions on who plays is not uncommon.
Tavion issues are in-house and he would not divulge anything…[Read more]

  • For some reason, I think ASU may upset UCLA at home.

  • We are the highest-ranked 2-loss team.  Higher than KState, Penn State, LSU, and Wake Forest.  Do we deserve the high ranking?
IMO, Tennessee should be ranked number 1.  But, they come in at three.  I guess we will see when Georgia and Tennessee play this Saturday.
The PAC12 comes in at 8,9,11,12 and 26.  Not bad.
BYU now has a loss to another…[Read more]

  • Odd time.  I am glad it is not another late game.  We will start in the sun and end after dark.
    Go Utes!!!

  • I am impressed with how Arizona has improved over the last two years on offense.  They are averaging over 470 total yards per game and 340 yards passing.  De Laura is slippery and very difficult to bring down.  They may end the season with two 1000-yard receivers.  When was the last time Utah had a 1000-yard receiver?
    Obviously, Arizona’s defense…[Read more]

  • I suspect it was Johnson since Jackson has been in the RB room for the last month.  OnlyU, do you know who would have played QB if Barnes would have gone down?

  • A number of players on this year’s team have no choice, their time is up, e.g., Kincaid, Enis, Dixon, Gabe Reid, Kaufusi, Hubert, Diabate, etc.
But, what will happen with these guys?
    Phillips – likely gone IMO
Kuithe – I have no idea.  He will not be in shape to participate in the combine, so who knows?
Rising – Most people say that he will be…[Read more]

I have not been pleased with our defense over the last month.  But, tonight _ I was very impressed.  There were three or four bad plays.  We made that many mistakes in USC’s first drive last week.  The D played great tonight, with 4 sacks and 10 TFLs.  I admit that I was surprised but very pleased.  They will need to step up next week since we…[Read more]

  • Who would have expected that a pig farmer from a town of 1400 people would end up being a Pac12 starting QB?  Milford High has just over 200 students that includes 7th-12th grade.  Barnes is quite a story.  He is no Cam Rising but somehow led us to victory on the road.

  • The game was not pretty.  By the end of the game, we had virtually none of our offensive studs on the field.  This is a memorable win, but very costly.  I can’t see Kincaid making it back.  We lost Hubert for the first half next week.  I have no clue what Rising’s status is.  I assume Tavion is gone for the season and I don’t know if Bernard will…[Read more]

  • About Thomas and Bernard not playing, we are down to a true freshman and converted QB to run the ball.  I hope that Jackson and Glover step up and have great games.
I remember back in 2003 when all of our RBs were injured going into the AFA game.  Urban moved Ben Moa to RB and we found a way to win the game.  I hope that Whitt and Ludwig have…[Read more]
