    Swiss Army Knife

Nice article about Nate Johnson. Some on here have wondered if Nate can be productive in this role. I love it. I loved it when Weddle and Vaki did it. I like to watch Taysom Hill and everything he can do. I get it that Johnson is not Weddle, very few are. But, he could be a nice addition to the offense this fall.

  • I am sure that he is compensated nicely by Utah donors. He just didn’t go looking for a better offer after the 2024 season. I appreciate his loyalty.

  • Lander’s sister was on the radio on Tuesday. It was an entertaining interview. She was an AA volleyball player at the U. She said that her little brother had plenty of lucrative NIL offers and chose not to take them. OC then added that he offered Lander a weekly NIL radio interview which Lander declined to take even though it was easy money.…[Read more]

Sounds like Beck will utilize the tight ends more than he did at UNM. King will be in the mix, and it sounds like Andrews is standing out.

One thing I was happy to read is that the feeling in the locker room is upbeat in spite of last season’s total debacle.

  • He can do this because of the coaching change. Utah was recruiting this kid hard last fall. We could use another LB. I assume Whitt and Scalley are on this. I read that BYU really wants this kid.

  • I don’t care bout BYU unless it affects us. My point is that we compete with BYU off the court for many things, like:

Donors (this is huge; we need John Hunstman Jr. to step up like his dad did.)
Fans (When Utah was on top of the world in 1998, many fans who were on the fence, became Utah fans. We need butts in the seats.)
    TV time (In football…[Read more]

  • BYU is a private school and will not dislose anything.

I find this all interesting since the church authorities said they would not get involved in pay-to-play when NIL came out. I guess if a few rich billionaires pay the bill – they don’t have a problem with it. The only thing I know for sure is that the top recruit in the country that will…[Read more]

I agree, but we need to be MUCH better in 2025 if we want to compete. A lot of it is on the Oline IMO.

    KSL article

Interesting information. It sounds like Parker will be RB1 as expected. They do not list Nate Johnson in the RB room, but Whitt says that he is our “Swiss army knife.” Andrews has moved to tight end, which makes sense with his size and speed.

I know some of you don’t like Johnson playing the role of a Swiss army knife. As for…[Read more]

  • Nate Johnson is an amazing athlete. I think you keep the opposition on their toes by putting Johnson in at different positions. More often than not, he could be a decoy.

Someone above wondered if he could be productive just playing the position and not just on trick plays. I believe the answer to that is YES. I think he could develop into a…[Read more]

  • I heard that Nate scored on an 80-yard run. He was playing RB at the time. Sources close to the program tell me that he will be used as a hybrid player, much like Taysom Hill for the Saints. I welcome that idea. Beck is working on how best to utilize his skills in the offense.

KSL has a nice article on Dampier. KSL article

IMO, Boguts may be the most deserving player to have his number retired. He was the consensus national player of the year, he was first team AA, he was first picked in the NBA draft, etc. By the standards set up by the university, (he only played two years) he would not have qualified for the honor. However, no other player received the…[Read more]

Two of the four captains named Fano.

    Go Utes!!!

  • Losing to green jello. That’s sad. But, I have to believe that 80% of the green jello vote is coming from the Cougar Board. 🙂

  • Many so-called BYU fans (not all) hate for Utah is much deeper than their love for BYU. They hope for bad things to happen to Utah, especially their athletic teams.

I have many good BYU friends and family, but I just dismiss the Utah haters for what they are…

Thanked family, and his mentor Rick Majerus and all the people who supported him when he played at Utah.

He respects the current team and coach.

Appreciates the vision of Pres Randall and Mark Harlan.

Wishes he had more time to visit with each player.

Excited to get a hard playing team and want to come here.

It feels right(mow) to come back…[Read more]

I am surprised by how optimistic many of you are about our D. Our linebackers should be fine. But, we have holes in all of the other positions IMO.

I certainly hope our offense is MUCH better. It would be hard to be worse.

If I had to predict, I would say we will win 6-8 games. This is an improvement from last year, but it is not where any…[Read more]

  • BYU’s basketball team has played great the last month. No one can deny that. However, they may be the highest-paid team in college basketball.

As far as basketball history goes:

Utah has been to four Final 4s – BYU has been to zero.
Utah has one national championship – BYU has zero.
As bad as Utah has been in basketball the last 15 years, Utah…[Read more]

  • Cody had a very good season. Lander struggled because of a nagging injury. I talked to his cousin the other day, and Lander is feeling good.

  • He signed for 21 million for three years. Good for him. He has had a solid career in the NFL. I liked him with the Broncos, and the Titans stink, so I don’t like that part.

I hope his little brother has a breakout season in 2025.
