That was crazy. I can’t believe they handed Warren Beatty the wrong envelope.
But I am happy that Moonlight won Best Picture. That is truly a beautiful movie, with a powerful theme of hope, redemption, and goodness, despite the awful reality that is the main characters’ daily lives. The cinematography is perhaps the best I have seen since…[Read more]

He was a tremendous actor. 61 is far too young.
Here is a young Bill Paxton watching JFK’s motorpool drive past after his speech in Dallas, shortly before JFK was assassinated. Bill is the kid sitting on his parent’s shoulders.

that shit works with high school players, but at some point the coaches need to stop blaming the players and let everybody move ahead.
Larry K is the 14th highest-paid basketball coach in the nation. He needs to act like it.

I watched the interview of the woman who set up the Utah Indivisible website in her spare time. I am sure she would be flattered to have her grassroots effort of setting up an email list and sending facebook announcements to be compared to some huge international conspiracy.

His district includes much of Sandy, Draper, and parts of Riverton and Murray/Midvale/Ft Union/Holladay. The population just in those areas is well over 200k, and probably includes 5x as many people than the entire rest of his district (Carbon, Emery, Wasatch, San Juan, and Grand Counties).
Why is it so hard to believe that 3k people are pissed…[Read more]

The craziest thing about that is that cleaning up the HAZMAT in those rivers/streams/mountains will create a SHIT TON of high-paying jobs. So ironically allowing the mining companies to simply dump their waste (and theoretically save money/create new jobs) actually decreases the work opportunities for the people who live in those areas.
When I…[Read more]

Hillary was the prototypical Republican in this race.
The problem is the Democrats (as led by their leadership) have run so far to the right since Bill Clinton ran in the early 90s, that most of the Republicans have moved even further to the right to compensate. The only time they went to left, when Howard Dean was the party chair, they picked…[Read more]

Outside Hire? What are you talking about? Pershing has been at the U for 3 decades now, is an excellent instructor, and even better researcher. He was the Dean of the College of Engineering for a long time, and spent 14 years as Sr VP of Academic Affairs (essentially in charge of all students and all faculty).
True, he isn’t a politician and…[Read more]

Not that it really matters, but they were 12 points away from being 13-0 last year. Their biggest losses were by 3 points to UCLA and to WVU, with 1-pt losses to Utah and Boise State. (and they also won several games by only a few points, so this point is largely moot).
