Russia, like most countries, is full of great people and a vibrant culture, tremendous art, etc. It unfortunately has had to endure a shitty government for most of the last several centuries.

Lynch did the right thing and recused herself over a 30-min meeting. Sessions on the other hand was an integral part of the campaign as an adviser, and yet is refusing to recuse himself. It will be interesting to see who the NYT is referring to, besides Flynn. There are several businessmen who are Trump friends who will likely be in hot water, a…[Read more]

It is very difficult for immigrants into France to obtain a work permit. As a result the Muslim immigrants (who came from countries other than former French colonies) can face 25%-30% unemployment, especially in the 18-35 yr-old males. This has gone on for decades and has led to plenty of problems, even well before the start of the Syrian Civil…[Read more]

The fact that he spoke with the Russian ambassador is kind of ‘meh’. Kissinger did that with the Vietnamese in 1968 and Reagan did that with Iran in 1980.
The leaks are also kind of ‘meh’, and should be treated as whistleblowers (although the Obama admin was historically tough on whistleblowers).
But if Flynn lied to the FBI, then he is in very…[Read more]

Surely you realize that Lynch actually did recuse herself in that case, as the law and the DOJ regulations and ethics require.

Puget Ute replied to the topic A ton of talk about RES stadium expansion right now…. in the forum Football 7 years, 9 months ago
That sure seems to be the best solution. The South End Zone should be condemned anyhow, it is falling down.
But there is almost no way the state legislature will pony up for it. Can the U raise $80M or so directly, or convince the UTLeg to bond all or part?
UW did a beautiful job with their new stadium and they were able to raise almost $300M…[Read more]

Doesn’t matter. Sessions a) won’t recuse himself, and b) won’t prosecute anyhow.

Ugh. I am sicker than I have been in decades. This is the first time in my adult life that I have missed three consecutive days of work for being sick, and things don’t look good for tomorrow.
It is about time that we erect a monument somewhere, perhaps on the Bonneville Salt Flats, that says “It Was the Flu”.
(I know I messed up that line, I…[Read more]

Obama fired Flynn for giving classified info to Pakistan, and then declined to prosecute him. Probably didn’t pursue him out of professional courtesy or whatever. Flynn and his son also pushed the bullshit narrative of ‘Clinton campaign officials are running a child sex ring out of Cosmic Pizza in DC’.
They are looking to replace him with…[Read more]

There were a relatively small percentage of posters on the left pushing back on ideas. To suggest it was in any way a majority of posters, or that the entire tenor of the board that leaned much to the left is counterfactual.
When the discussion devolves into personal attacks, name calling, strawman arguments, etc, (and people on all sides were…[Read more]

An Open Disclosures law would be paramount. And that might be the only one that is actually workable.
At the Federal level raising revenue wouldn’t be a problem at all. And you wouldn’t even need to preclude very many back door sweetheart deals to essentially be revenue-neutral.

Public funding for campaigns. Overturn Citizens United. Ban direct and indirect donations to candidates. Increase congressional/senatorial pay to $1M/yr, with a distinct ban on gifts from lobbyists. 5-yr separation between being a congressman and becoming a lobbyist (DJT is working on this one right now, because the revolving door from Congress…[Read more]
