Kellen Moore was fabulous at RPO, and he was a Pro Style QB. Same with Brian Johnson and Jake Browning. RPO does not automatically require a running QB.
It just requires a quick read of the Defense before and at the snap, and an even quicker decision to hand off or pass. It has as much (or more) to do with reaction time as it does physical…[Read more]

I like Jalen Hurts a lot. He is a wonderful person and is a solid player. And I hope he goes to Oklahoma and wins their 3rd straight Heisman.
My biggest fear is he will go to Washington State. That is completely terrifying. -

Also, OCs seem to have a short term at most programs. Stability at DC is much higher than at OC across the country.

Andy Ludwig left Utah to take a job at Kansas State (and then accepted the job at Cal instead). He left the MWC for the Big 12/PAC-12 and a big salary bump. Nobody in 2008 thought Utah was going to the PAC-12, and in fact the narrative at the time was for the MWC to replace the Big East as a BCS conference.

The inner circle narrative needs to be put out to pasture.
The following coaches are from “Whitt’s inner circle”:
Norm Chow
Aaron Roderick
Brian JohnsonThe following coaches were on staff with Whitt at another program at some point in the past:
Andy Ludwig (Idaho State 89-91, Utah 92, Utah 05-08)The following coaches were hired from well…[Read more]

UteBuntu makes a good point in this tweet. Ludwig’s S&P+ is better than just about anything else we have seen.

Also, Sark and Tosh Lupoi were investigated by the NCAA for recruiting violations when they were at UW, and the NCAA didn’t find anything so no sanctions were imposed.

Sark recruited tons of people to USC in the decade he was there as an assistant and OC.
Sark also recruited the following players to UW: Azeem Victor (All-PAC LB), Elijah Qualls (All-PAC DL), John Ross (All-American WR), Keyshawn Bierria (All-PAC LB), Coleman Shelton and Jake Eldrenkamp (All-PAC O Linemen),

Jalen Hurts*, Christian Wilkins (imagine him next to Leki Fotu!), Renfro..
*I’m still a big fan of Jalen Hurts. I am interested to see where he transfers next year.

I believe the NCAA will hold the head coach responsible. This was a relatively recent change.

Is anybody planning to watch the CFP Championship Game tonight?
As far as I am concerned the CFB season is over and any remaining outcome is irrelevant. I won’t waste time watching the game and will probably only check the score in passing. Bama and Clemson are clearly the dominant teams/programs right now, but watching those two play every…[Read more] -

Not entirely true. He needs to really nail the Combine to grade out in the 1st or 2nd round. If he isn’t fully recovered and runs poorly at the Combine, then he is a 4th rounder.

I don’t understand. That seems like such a huge step down from WVU. I understand the UH location is much better than Morgantown, but it still seems odd.

TT is definitely a lifestyle guy. Happy and comfortable is more important than raw success. He now gets to move home to a wonderful place to live, gets to call his own shots on everything, and has 8 years guaranteed. He still has a few hundred grand extra in the bank/retirement account from his gig at Utah, and gets to return to a place he loves…[Read more]

Not sure he starts over Fotheringham or Kuithe. And he definitely doesn’t block well enough to fit our schemes. He is an outstanding receiver, though, and that counts for a lot.
