I love it. Delon Wright, Jakob Poeltl, and Fred VanVleet have to be three of the best bench players in the entire league. What an amazing group to watch!

Puget Ute replied to the topic Kuzma on list of players who received money from ASM sports in 2015… in the forum Basketball (Men) 6 years, 9 months ago
I completely agree with not faulting a kid for taking money dangled in front of them, especially when their loved ones are struggling to make ends meet. The NCAA needs to get its act together and allow schools to greatly increase the stipend for players, or else this kind of thing is just going to continue. Maybe have a standard ‘allowable’…[Read more]

And if you truly are a special player, realize there are five more players just like you coming in every year. Guarantee some Freshman Phenom will take your playing time and will make you a forgotten man in Tuscaloosa.

Hey Samson, get Puka to have a sit-down meeting with Cooper Bateman about the things they will tell you to get you to Alabama. Then realize you will be sitting on the bench for four years (unless you get injured) because they are absolutely stacked at your position (and every position, tbh).
Puka, Good luck young man. I hope your brother doesn’t…[Read more]

Puget Ute replied to the topic We should reach out to Rich Rod in the forum Football 6 years, 10 months ago
DickRod may be an OhFensive genius, but he also ‘tapped’ a cheerleader at WVU and ‘tapped’ a student athlete at Arizona. We don’t want to get involved with that.

Puget Ute replied to the topic Welcome back Gary Anderson! in the forum Football 6 years, 10 months ago
I am still convinced that GA is not HC material, although he is an outstanding addition to the staff and will be a big help next year.

Puget Ute replied to the topic Welcome back Gary Anderson! in the forum Football 6 years, 10 months ago
That is the way it went for Scott Frost. He went from OC/QB coach at Oregon, to program-changing HC at UCF, to (who knows) at Nebraska. I honestly hope he does well at Nebraska. They love to complain about coaches who win fewer than 9 games per year.

Puget Ute replied to the topic Whitt being considered by NY Giants for HC in the forum Football 6 years, 11 months ago
The numbers at Wisconsin look good, but are a bit more telling when you look closer.
In 2013 they beat:
A good Iowa team and a sub-par byu-P team.
They also beat: 1-11 UMass, FCS Tennessee Tech, 1-11 Purdue, and a bunch of 5-7 and 4-8 teams.
In 2014 they beat:
A good Nebraska and decent Rutgers and Minnesota teams. And an FCS team and a…[Read more]

Puget Ute replied to the topic Which Utah mens bball player is 14-59 from three? in the forum Basketball (Men) 6 years, 11 months ago
Good thing Bibbins is 29 for 60 and Tyler Rawson is 21 for 55.
I thought the guard play in the Oregon game was very good, and the interplay between Bobbins and Barefield is outstanding. -

Puget Ute replied to the topic Because UTE fans at UH know everything… Rasperry Pi for Christmas lights in the forum Misc 6 years, 11 months ago
I have a Raspberry Pi with a screen functioning as the navigation computer on my boat. It is a surprisingly powerful, stable, and flexible little computer, and the software available for it is top notch (and again, highly flexible).
I only need to convert a data stream (NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 serial packets through an RS232 converter) into…[Read more]

Puget Ute replied to the topic Huntley and Tuttle in the forum Football 6 years, 11 months ago
Very few True FR QBs are so good that they start. Baker Mayfield, Jared Goff, and JT Barrett a few years ago; Jalen Hurts last year; Jake Fromm at UGA and the QBs for Va Tech and FSU this year. All were exceptionally good as True FR.
But most of the time a team playing a True FR either means the QB is stellar, or the rest of the QBs on the…[Read more]

Jeez. Comparing a starter in Defense to a QB who plays Special Teams?
On the other hand, I can only dream of what could have been if Taysom Hill had switched over to Defense 17 years ago when he left Stanford. He would be an All-Pro Safety.

If only Josh Gordon had been able to keep his head on straight we could have had another option on Offense in 2011-2012. I wonder how that would have changed things with Gordon lined up on one side with Dres Anderson on the other.

Pump the brakes just a touch on his time at Wiscy. Gary took over a team that had just gone to its third straight Rose Bowl. His best wins include Nebraska, Minnesota, and Rutgers in 2014, and Iowa, Minnesota, BYU-P, and Indiana in 2013. None of those teams ended up ranked.
I like Gary, he is a good guy. He is a tough-minded Defensive coach…[Read more]

Puget Ute replied to the topic Why all this talk about Taylor leaving? in the forum Football 6 years, 12 months ago
If he leaves on his own we are screwed, but will probably find a way to recover.
If he leaves because he is pushed out, then our program top to bottom is a bigger dumpster fire than Tennessee and everybody needs to get fired and replaced.TT ain’t going anywhere, and he was a homerun hire for Utah.

Puget Ute replied to the topic I love Utah fans (not really). in the forum Football 6 years, 12 months ago
I hope he takes Alex Grinch him. Leach Offense plus Grinch Defense plus Tennessee recruits will be a lot of fun. And that will get one of the best Defensive minds out of the PAC-12.
Edit- this was supposed to go under the Leach to Tenn thread. Not sure why it posted here.

Puget Ute replied to the topic Tyler Huntley just might work out for us… in the forum Football 7 years ago
Total yardage is a poor indicator. We had 4 OL and an RB who are on NFL rosters this year.
Our shiny new Oh-Fense is taking shape and will kick butt next year. Our passing game is quite a bit more effective, and Huntley is becoming a cold-blooded assassin. His Yards Per Attempt and completion percentages will put him in elite company next year.
