The one team I can see backing up the truck is Texas A&M. They are near a point where jumping from Jimbo is an acceptable financial loss and they have a crap ton of money. Prime would kill it down there with the type of athletes he could attract to a program of that stature.

Rick replied to the topic Whitt said that Rising could come back next year. Do we want that? in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
If we think Wilson is our long term solution to the QB position, it may be best to have Cam come back. It would give Wilson a year to observe and learn and then take over. It would probably mean that Rose bolts and Johnson maybe tries another position but so be it.

I feel really good with Nate Ritchie in at safety if Bishop can’t play in the first half Saturday. I thought we didn’t miss a beat when Bishop went out. Ritchie is a baller! I don’t hold much hope on our appeal with Bishop but our depth at safety is solid, especially considering Tao can play safety if needed as well.

Rick started the topic RB Pass Protection in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
I have noticed pretty much all season but especially recently with Glover that our RBs have been really poor at pass protection. I am shocked to see it since our RB coach, Quinton Ganther, was an absolute beast at pass protection as a Ute and in the NFL. If Ludwig is as hell bent as he seems to be about making Nate be a pocket passer, then this…[Read more]

Just looking at common opponents UCLA beat SDSU 35-10 and Oregon State beat SDSU 26-9. Based on our game with UCLA last week, I see a very tight defensive game in the 17-14, 21-17 range for the Utes. We cannot have turnovers and our defense or special teams probably needs to make a score but I think it is a game we can win.

I used to be a loyal listener to Spence but his political opinions and paranoid COVID rants forced me to turn him off. He used to have a great show but he has become a complete ass.

I think USC will beat Colorado much worse than Oregon did. Do you think they want to leave any doubts in the voters minds like they did last week at ASU? They know they need to run the score up on the Buffs to move back up in the polls. If Travis Hunter doesn’t play I see something like the Dolphins/Broncos game last Sunday.

I agree. Why are we not trying out some of these freshman RBs that everyone has been so excited about? You can test them out and still keep their redshirts.

Rick replied to the topic Utezone has become a hell hole in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
I left Utezone years ago because of the toxicity of it’s members and how they always tried to weave politics into everything. Tony runs a much better board by far.

Rick replied to the topic Utah's QB dilemma in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
I agree with Tony. This defense is tackling so much better this year than last and if that is due to live reps then so be it! If we tackled this season the way we did at the start of last season we would be 1-3 right now.

LOL! Those are two very unimpressive QBs you just named there. You proved my point.

Klatt was not a good enough player for Miami to put a hit on him! No way that happened anywhere but in his mind.

Rick replied to the topic Taking stock of our injury issues in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
You are wrong about Rose. Based on the spring game and summer camp up to his injury, he was the clear #2 and would have been the starter barring injury. I watched him in spring and he is clearly a better QB than Barnes and Nate. He is very similar to Cam in his delivery and execution and he has pretty decent feet.

Rick replied to the topic what do you want to see against weber state in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
Several of the holding calls in that Baylor game were largely not holding at all. Engaging with someone by grabbing their jersey inside of their shoulders is NOT holding. The refs were overly sensitive that day and only 1 or 2 of them were actually holding. Another officiating crew would have called that game a lot differently. Only one of…[Read more]

Rick replied to the topic Please, no more Barnes. in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
I think the story around Barnes is great and I think we all want him to do well. What I don’t like is the expectations placed on him by many and then the way those same people just trash him when he falls short. Objectively, he is not a very serviceable P5-level college QB. He is late on his throws and he always seems to be very tentative which…[Read more]
