Lest we become too much like the team down south, I think we should pump the brakes on criticizing BYU basketball.

They are objectively in a much better place than Utah basketball is right now, and arguably also have a brighter future too. Money trumps almost everything in the current college landscape, and right now their B-Ball team has far more financial support than Utah. (Which has bought them Kevin Young who I expect to be a very good coach, has landed them the top recruit next year, and I’m sure will continue to bring in more players in the future.)

While I am very hopeful that Alex Jensen will return the Utes to greatness, for him to make Utah better than BYU will require him to do more with less (which I think is possible, but is far from guaranteed).

My brother in law goes to church with Keanu’s grandma. And he told me that his grandma was saying that Keanu was unhappy with Smith and was indeed thinking of leaving if there wasn’t a coaching change.

That said – hopefully now that we have a coaching change we can convince Keanu and others to stick around.

This might sound dumb, but I was pretty ok with the blowouts. The whole point of a playoff is to prove on the field / court who is the actual best. A lot of those teams that got blown out were teams that a lot of people thought were pretty good. But now we know with a surety, those teams weren’t really all that close compared to the teams above them. And now we get a chance to do it again in the next round (and I won’t be surprised if ASU and Boise State similarly get whooped). With 12 teams, you eliminate the coulda woulda shoulda, and you get to prove who were the pretenders and who were the contenders.

Mom wants Calhoun to be here as long as the price is right.

There’s no doubt been some toxicity on this team this year. By all accounts, Isaac Wilson was a part of that.

That said, I keep hearing tidbits and rumors that the most toxic presence on this team is Whittingham right now. I’m not sure if everything I’m hearing is true or accurate (and maybe it’s all coming from one disgruntled person), but if it is true, it feels like Whittingham will go from Utah football hero to villain pretty quickly if it all comes out.

That said – winning solves everything. If they can win games next year, I don’t think anyone will care. But if we have another season like this year next year, I feel like the floodgates will open up with negative Whittingham stories.

Utah: you don’t like the LDS church. That’s fine. And your primary point that some LDS players will want to play for BYU because of religion is in my opinion completely true. But inserting a long list of grievances with the LDS church in the middle of a football discussion is not only unnecessary, it also doesn’t fit with the atmosphere of everything I love about Ute Hub. Unnecessarily bringing religion and politics into sports talk is almost a surefire way to turn this site into a toxic mess. If you need to vent about the LDS church, that’s fine, there’s other places online you can do that. But don’t do it here.

Roboute: That’s not a BYU rumor, that’s what I’ve heard from die hard Ute fans that are close to the program. While I don’t know anything for certain, based on what I’ve heard, I fully believe it’s true that Whitt’s presence made it more difficult to find a new OC.

      “proof of something unproveable”

So blowing another team out is not proof that you are a better team, because it was a home game?

I think a solution to this is to create a window during which NIL deals can be made / signed, and to make that window happen before the transfer portal opens.

While I’m sure there will still be some under the table deals happening, I would bet a lot of teams would be hesitant to throw money at a player if they aren’t sure that player will come (and / or is a player that technically they aren’t supposed to be recruiting).

Very fair point. However, I would counter that his job right now is to entertain fans. (As that is the ultimate source of all money in athletics.) It’s certainly within his right to try and get more money from a different fan base, but he shouldn’t be surprised if how he’s doing it turns his current fan base against him.
