  • The “backing in” narrative is the dumbest oft repeated line I’ve seen this season from our fanbase.

Some Ute fans just can’t help but resort to self-loathing and misery when things don’t go well. It’s pathetic.

Health is key. If he could stay healthy all season along with his favorite targets, he wouldn’t have to run so much and risk injury and I think he could achieve a higher ceiling.

The problem is, we’ve limped into the last two Rose Bowls with no playmakers. That’s just not going to get it done against elite teams. Yassmin was the only decent…[Read more]

  • Yeah, but that’s not backing in though. Backing in implies they didn’t deserve to be there. The games weren’t completed yet. Backing in would be like what happened to UCLA in 2011. USC actually won the division but was barred from the CCG because of sanctions so the 2nd place South team, UCLA, got in instead.

  • Thanks for being one of the good BYU fans that doesn’t make it a life goal to diminish everything Utah does or is involved with.

If BYU were to win the Big12 and make a big bowl game, I’d be honest about it and say that it’s a good accomplishment. Winning a conference is always a nice accomplishment. I enjoyed it while in the MWC and I enjoy it…[Read more]

  • It’s not disingenuous at all. This happens all the time in contests of many different types. Elections aren’t decided until all votes are counted. Division or conference championships are not named until all games are played because upsets happen.

You are simply arguing semantics of when Utah clinched the 2nd spot, but this happens all the time.…[Read more]

  • No one is saying the team was awesome. They are a solid team, but had deficiencies. Especially in road games. That is something the coaching staff really needs to work on. For some reason, Utah has become an truly awful road team the last few years.

And just stop with the “backed into the CCG” nonsense. No, they didn’t. They won the necessary…[Read more]

  • We’ve had big time WRs before. Carrington, for example. Problem is, we had him in a year where Utah just wasn’t that great overall. Imagine how this team would have looked this year if we had Carrington?

I hope the staff can get a portal WR like him. Just one elite receiver is likely enough to take the offense to the next level.

    Rising,…[Read more]

  • The predominant thoughts seem to be that Rising and Kuithe will return. Their injuries have basically forced them to because they will not be fully recovered by draft day.

I actually felt the opposite going into this game. I had very little confidence. We had no offensive firepower left. Rising struggles when he doesn’t have his all-world TEs to…[Read more]

Oregon State was also a good win.

  • Yep. We’re not playing Indiana, West Virginia and BYU anymore. 2018 was Big10 runner up Northwestern. 2021 was 11 win Ohio State. 2022 was 10 win Penn State who’s only losses were to playoff teams.

These are difficult opponents. Texas in 2019 wasn’t great, but I blame the Pac12 runner up curse for that one. 🙂

The Pac12 runner up has never won…[Read more]

Always nice to see Big10 teams lose.

  • UteFanatic replied to the topic We’re a “false team” in the forum Football 2 years ago

    1. The score wasn’t 45-30, it was 46-45.

    2. Tulane is a pretty dang good team this year.

    3. USC still had 11 wins, and a prolific offense with a Heisman QB.

Don’t pretend that beating USC isn’t an accomplishment. It was two good wins for Utah.

  • UteFanatic replied to the topic We’re a “false team” in the forum Football 2 years ago

If Utah is a “false team” then there is a whole hell of a lot of teams more “false” than Utah. Like 100 more.

  • Utah is getting more talented each and every year. We just nabbed a top 20 recruiting class for the first time ever. The most glaring thing is the lack of elite wide receivers.

This is the one area that has been devoid of talent for too long now and it’s not getting better. It’s awesome when we have elite TEs and they stay healthy, but guys that…[Read more]

  • You never know about a player until they get a shot under the lights. The coaches don’t always get it right. Just like when they started Brewer over Rising last year when that was obviously a terrible decision in hindsight.

I’m frustrated because we know what Bryson is, and he was never going to lead Utah to a victory in that game. I would rather…[Read more]

  • Yeah, it sucks but we’re not playing .500 teams like Indiana and West Virginia anymore. We’ve been better during the regular season, so we’ve been getting better bowl opponents.

Don’t worry, though. There will likely be a significant regression next season so we’ll get another mediocre bowl opponent and probably win.

  • UteFanatic replied to the topic We’re a “false team” in the forum Football 2 years ago

This is a bit of an overreaction. Utah is not a “false team”. Rather, they are a good but not elite team. Utah is still punching above its weight talent-wise. The last two Rose Bowls were against teams that recruit multiple 5 star athletes every year and have good, proven coaches. Losses shouldn’t be a surprise. In fact, they should be…[Read more]

  • I’ll never forgive the coaching staff for not putting in Johnson after the Barnes interception. He was never going to lead Utah back. I doubt Nate could have either, but given the choice between a limited, game-manager walk on and an elite athlete like Johnson, it’s a no brainer.

Just let Johnson run a read option every play.

I was wrong about them. Thought they would get smoked by Michigan. They’ve got a pretty good squad.
Probably not good enough to beat Georgia, but maybe they’ll surprise there too. Seems like the stars are aligning as they occasionally do for the underdog.

If TCU loses this game, it’s going to go down as an all time choke job.
