True, but putting the pieces back together in Seattle and being successful in 1st Big 10 year might be a bigger lift than just continuing with what he has and having another 10 win season.

  • DataUte replied to the topic Taeshaun Lyons in the forum Football 1 year ago

Yep, and we shouldn’t underestimate the ability of a good QB to ‘throw his receiver open’. The WR has to make adjustments, but good ones will. When the throw is late, defended, or behind the WR, it’s harder to catch even those that target them. Barnes was often late or threw only if he saw them open, not right before they came open.

  • But even Bolles, as great as he was, was good for a holding call or two every game. Didn’t really clean that up until his 3rd year in the league.

    Athletic Explanation

Time to update the notion (at least for this year). Amongst the legal wranglings and to give clarity for athletes to enter the portal, it’s a freebie transfer at least for 2024 season. TBD afterwards, but the same reason they let D. Smith play without the threat of it being taken away (and losing a year of eligibility), they…[Read more]

Graduate transfer, yes. And, as we’ve seen in basketball, D. Smith and others are playing as court cases challenge this. I frankly thing they shouldn’t get even 1 free transfer without coach/family health/extenuating circumstance reasons, but oh well.

Someone like Malachi could get a Comms degree (like JJ) in a shorter time, so could play 2…[Read more]

Simply put, he is not going to sit another year. Sounds like USC saw what they had and he wasn’t that good, sitting at 3 behind Miller. For him it is clear: Playing Time >> $$$ (Miami). I kind of admire that. Shuns the current mercenary environment.

  • DataUte replied to the topic Bryson Barnes to Utah State in the forum Football 1 year ago

Bryson will be a Senior, 21, and married at 19. Maybe staying relatively close to home but getting a different opportunity/experience (even if he has to fight even to be the backup) will be good. Doesn’t seem like he has the tools to play at the next level, so maybe a different system is good just to get exposure. Not sure if he wants to get into…[Read more]

I heard UM reached out with a $1M NIL offer 😉 jk

  • I think more then depth. He likely will start. He did so for Stanford and was honorable mention PAC12. He’s coming to Utah to get our top-notch development at these positions and polish off his resume to get drafted.

  • DataUte replied to the topic Utes get commitment from Gilman in the forum Football 1 year ago

Feeling a whole lot better about the DB room. Seemed like that was a weak spot with NFL, transfers, etc. Now it is really solid with strength at the top and depth to deal with any injuries.

  • Am I mis-remembering that Elliss wasn’t even going to be a starter? Injuries put him in there and he took advantage and turned into an AA. Amazing. You never know which DE all of a sudden pops into national awards.

  • If only the dang schedule would come out!

    See ya Sep 14th

  • DataUte replied to the topic Where's Mikey? in the forum Football 1 year ago

Or taking a sick week and ‘starting’ classes late (depends if he’s registered or not) … do those that enter the portal have to get approval from the leadership council to be allowed to return?

  • DataUte replied to the topic Where's Mikey? in the forum Football 1 year ago

So, we’ll see him Sep 14th … time to bolster the sack stats

  • DataUte replied to the topic Interesting video from Josh Pate in the forum Football 1 year ago

I think going to a bowl (non-CFP, even some NY6, which will become CFP, so problem solved there) just gives extra practice time which is good. Used to be a reward and players were excited about it. Now it’s just opt-out city. Sometimes it’s even hard to field a team. Most of the early ones are G5 v G5, so almost like a different division (which is…[Read more]

LB Medlock did end up at SMU however.

CB JaTravis Broughton McCloud (not sure the reason, but probably a mom/dad thing?) projected to go to TCU.

  • DataUte replied to the topic Ja'Quinden Jackson in the forum Football 1 year ago

Maybe he has a former teammate or friend there? Or a coach from the past? I would hope – going cold to a new team could be tough and there was some talk he wanted to be closer to home. I mean, he will be a little closer and a little warmer, but

  • DataUte replied to the topic Ja'Quinden Jackson in the forum Football 1 year ago

Speaking of Dorian – should we offer him?

  • DataUte replied to the topic IT'S GAME DAY!!!!! in the forum Basketball (Men) 1 year ago

You do know our team has Keba Keita, Deivon Smith, and Exacte (if he gets back on the court) that are all solid contributors, right? Then 2 7-footers and add in Madsen and Worster. If anything, this game was an indication we need to get better as using our size advantage, esp. against a team that starts 4 guards. They got hot and busted the zone…[Read more]
