  • I feel like we have to beat who we ‘should’: Cal, ASU, UA, CU. That takes us to 8 wins. That is ‘you did your job with what you have and held it together’ land. Solid. Win the 50/50 against USC (our defense limits their offense, we actually score some points on their horrible defense, maybe getting a few defensive points to help), that’s a ‘ok,…[Read more]

The way we list our 2-deep doesn’t help, but:
    WR-X: Parks, Simmons
WR-Z: Vele (just returned), McClain (injured)
    WR-R: Pittman (injured), Matthews
    LT: Fano (injured), Togiai
    LG: Bills, Harrison
OC: Maea (injured, could return soon), Faaiu (but isn’t Kump generally taking C duties? haven’t paid close enough attention)
    RG: Mokofisi, Kump
    RT: Laumea,…[Read more]

The rest of the offense was still the same? He struggled a little more after their top receiver went out hurt. At least that’s what I saw. Also, USC defense really sucks?

  • DataUte replied to the topic Struggles in the forum Football 1 year, 2 months ago

Putting in QB2 (not even QB3, QB4) with the rest of the regular offense sure is different than playing a 2nd string Center (and shuffling the line), RB1, RB2, RB4 hurt or out for season, TE1 (Yassmin) should be doing better, but TE2 is undersized, TE3 is converted defense. McCain, Pittman hurt, so leaves us thinner at WR (Vele, Parks, Matthews).…[Read more]

This. But isn’t it ok for us fans to keep expectations as if all the 1st teamers (or maybe a few 2nd teamers) were still playing? kidding

I think we are probably on plan F with all the permutations we’ve had to deal with.

  • Coaches/Teams can’t control NIL money or direct it (well, wink, wink – with potential rules actually being discussed on this). That would have been between Cam and the deals. I truly think Cam thought he could come back faster (like his 1st injury) and he is busting his you know what to try to get there. But healing doesn’t speed up just by being…[Read more]

Let’s see who we did go to the portal for and how they are doing:
    – King (TE): caught a TD. Whit says he needs to gain weight to have more impact
    – Pittman (WR) been hurt last 3 games, so inconclusive so far but no one to throw to him anyway (also slotted as PR)
    – Allen (S) 1 tackle in limited play
    – Simmons (WR) I only remember a dropped ball
    -…[Read more]

  • 1) that was when everyone thought it was just an ACL tear (and maybe not even a complete tear). The other ‘expert(s)’ here immediately said 12-18 when it was found out to be ACL, MCL, meniscus, …

    2) hard to keep track of new posts within middle of one of 17 threads on the topic where everyone is putting out their incomplete guesses

  • Good point. ‘Hope is not a strategy’

  • Very fair

  • I read ‘we were expecting we’d be set’ to mean both that they hoped to have Cam back, but if not, we were set with 3 options to fill in until he was ready to come back (expectation probably shorter than reality). That second piece I think is critical to the argument.

Does seem like Miami could be like LA – lots to do, so a little more fair-weather. Especially after that GT debacle – Cristobal has to be on borrowed time, but he’s still owed more than $60M, right? Could see fans abandoning the program pretty quickly.

  • No, I think he’s saying that both your statements are possibly true – Whit felt comfortable with the guys they recruited – 2 4* plus Barnes as being able to learn, grow, and become at worst a serviceable fill in until Cam could come back (maybe the timeline was off, but still the same). We’ve learned Barnes only has some skills. We’ve learned Nate…[Read more]

  • That’s how I felt too. But then this: Randall, I’m told, also wasn’t alone in pushing for the $50 million valuation. At least three others in the Pac-12 board room were also enthusiastic about it.

Everyone thought it was the ASU president and ASU professor. But sounds like there were several presidents all trying to get at a number. Int…[Read more]

  • At least 1 year continuity of OC into Big 12 would be really helpful, esp. if we are going with Rose or NJ next year. Changing OCs will set back the offense just as much as not having someone with the skills/talent. And we know if Whit goes, Ludwig will also retire. So too much disruption. Would rather have them on board for another year or two,…[Read more]

  • I’ll still take all that from Whit, the winningest coach in Utah FB history. Bowls nearly every year. 10-1 (11-1 co-shared with Urban) with Fiesta, Sugar bowl wins, 2x conference champion and 2x to Rose Bowl. He has his style, his brand, his quirks, but so do all coaches. I’d take him over anyone.

That’s not to say I’m a pure Whit apologist. He…[Read more]

  • I just think I we can’t judge too harshly someone who has been with the program for 30 years, head coach for almost 20, and had recent success. Whitt has much more information and has to make many more decisions than us. So it may seem common, but it’s really quite complex. It’s not black and white and I admit, there probably were some bad…[Read more]

  • Usually it depends on if they are getting active treatment over the weekend or not, but players not playing travel all the time, especially if they were starters – it’s good for team culture, morale, and they can help encourage younger players.

Pros are a little different because they have IR and limited roster counts (53 on active roster, 46…[Read more]

  • I love this post. I have a BIL that is very ritualistic and won’t watch games with anyone (a different team though). I will watch with 1 of my sons, but he often will get up and throw a football around with himself or shoot hoops. Otherwise, it’s usually just me. My wife might come in, watch for while the wander off, but generally gets the game…[Read more]

  • This actually makes a lot more sense with the rumors swirling that Cam is practicing then people feel like he ‘backs out’ or isn’t ‘ready’ himself – if his surgeon is saying hold off, it might give him more pause and reason to wait as he’s probably not only thinking about this season, but staying healthy to have a chance at trying out the next…[Read more]
