DataUte replied to the topic Most likely to remove name from Portal? in the forum Football 4 months ago
Agree on tspp. I think it’s ok to explore a little, kind of feel out if there are better situations/offers after an emotionally charged season. I don’t love it and it does speak to some loyalty, but the team changes so much they might just want to feel heard and get their name out there because they might have a job opportunity too good to pass up…[Read more]

DataUte replied to the topic Regarding the Portal, It Could Always be Worse in the forum Football 4 months ago
That’s a good point. Kiffin and others have hoped it would be after bowl games/CFP, but that is too late to land a spot and get in place to enroll (not like the academic side has really mattered much lately). Maybe they should just have one late spring so they can see how things are going, they finish the school year, then they move during the…[Read more]

This is the new way – mine the G5 for the better players and bring them up to P4 and they compete for 1st team (or start because they already know the system like this case with Beck coming over).

What was Isaac’s TD/INT ratio? Oh yeah, 10/11. Whit shut that down so fast … wait, no he didn’t. Wilson also didn’t have any rushing TDs.

The Detmers do know about INTs and don’t mind them as much

I’ve loved my time at Utah. It has been the experience of a lifetime. Having said that, I’m really not that good at my job and seem to drive away 4-star running backs after they don’t develop and get carries. Having said that, you thought I was leaving, but I will be back … ooops, ‘we will be back’ to provide you with easy fodder for your message boards.

DataUte replied to the topic Cam Leaving According to 24/7 in the forum Football 4 months ago
I thought it was a joke when texted to me, but it showed up on the Utes Athletic and Football Instagram, so it was official. It was really, really weird IMO. Old school looking letterhead? Surprised they didn’t use Papyrus or Comic Sans as the font …
Agree that it was clunky changing from I’m back to We are back. Just odd. Like some PR intern…[Read more]

DataUte replied to the topic Cam not expected back in the forum Football 4 months ago
Love him for what he did for us in the PAC12 CCG years. Don’t love what he did to us the last 2 years, but not his fault for getting injured (and not like he’s going to give NIL money back). If he wants to give an 8th year a go, I wish him the best. I should hope that when he retires from football, he has good opportunities to go into coaching if…[Read more]

DataUte replied to the topic Isaac Wilson to BYU? in the forum Football 4 months ago
He still needs the kneecap surgery and 2020 Zach ain’t walking through that door. And there aren’t any more Wilsons to chase after. Perhaps he develops more, but I’m fine moving on and getting some transfer portal qbs. I wish Rose stays though.

DataUte replied to the topic So, who will be in the QB room for spring ball? in the forum Football 4 months ago
I thought it would be:
Cam
+Dampier
Isaac
Rose
Huard
+2 freshmanJK. But not. For some dreaded feeling, I think it will be Cam, Dampier, 2 freshman. Please be Rose, Dampier, Huard (need a good scout team qb), 2 FR.

No kidding on the conferences. Mississippi St. is #15/16 in SEC and would be #2 in the Big 12.

Woods would have been good to see what he could do. More like a before-season-starting injury.
Don’t forget Alford also was 0/1 with 1 INT

Shows maturity to realize with 1 year left if you want to continue playing football after this, it might require a shift away from QB.

DataUte replied to the topic Mike Gundy in the forum Football 4 months ago
This year was a total flop for them and shouldn’t have been that bad with Gordon and even a game manager qb. The defense was terrible, but it just seems the whole team gave up after Utah beat them (ok, a couple more losses after that). Always hard (as we are experiencing) deciding what to do with a 20 year tenure coach.

DataUte replied to the topic Oklahoma starting quarterback Jackson Arnold is entering the Portal in the forum Football 4 months ago
Not too much of a surprise. He lost the starting job to Hawkins late in the season. He’ll probably Dillon Gabriel or Jalen Hurts it out of there. Hawkins might leave too.

DataUte replied to the topic Utah is now 0 for 2 on OC candidates. in the forum Football 4 months ago
Yep. TT OC made 825k (took FAU HC for 5 year $6M). Leftwich was making $280k. I’m sure we lowballed and TT will pay him as a Broyles finalist and Texan (UTEP qb, coach, Incarnate Word, Texas State).

Sound familiar?
Penn State looks nothing like the wide-open, take no prisoners offense Kotelnicki built at Kansas and Buffalo and all those championship seasons in the NCAA lower division with Lance Leipold.
The Penn State offense looks like – and I know this is going to shock you – every other offense we’ve seen from Penn State under James…

Agree and he has been in Texas his whole (short) career, so TT might be easier for recruiting, especially if they offer more than Utah. Hope he wasn’t expecting the $1.5M Ludwig got, but likely we lowballed and offended him.

I hope for 8-4, but just because I have hope we can’t have that many injuries 3 years in a row. But when Whitt announces Rising is coming back for 8th year, my projection goes to 4-8. QB management has been a disaster.
