silverliningsurfer replied to the topic BREAKING: Rose Confirmed Out for Season in the forum Football 1 week ago
I don’t think they have a choice at this point. Unfortunately, things really can’t get worse from here, other than the footnote of starting 4-0 and losing out. I’d play him if it helps secure him coming back.
Allegedly Isaac has some attitude problems. I’m not sure if he could get buy in from people for the last few games. I’d imagine he would…[Read more]

I have no idea what Indiana’s NIL budget looks like but I’d imagine their boosters are longing more for basketball resurgence instead of going in on football, especially considering they could dominate B10 basketball. Definitely agree that they are an example of hope that, if nothing else, schools like Utah can still catch lightning in a bottle…[Read more]

silverliningsurfer started the topic First half vs. Second half Offense in the forum Football 1 week, 2 days ago
Speaking specifically about Saturday’s game, but you could apply this concept to the whole season.
The offense started well in the first half. Better than I think even I expected. Obviously, they scored 0 points in the second. I’d love to know why that happened. Did the coaches start with a good script that they just couldn’t build off of? Did…[Read more]

The defense has played with heart all year and kept us in every game. I hope that’s a good sign moving forward into next season.
The offense, outside of Bernard, has been pretty uninspired and gutless all year and I expect that to continue.
That said, for this game, this is probably the worst outcome going in. If CO sucked and dropped a few…[Read more]

Appreciate this post and agree with a lot of the sentiment. A few thoughts —
2.) I am sick of the BYU rivalry. Speaking as someone from the NE region where I grew up with RedSox-Yankees, Bruins-Maple Leafs/Canadiens, Patriots/Jets and some Pats/Ravens games… The BYU thing is something else and I can’t stand it. I think a lot of it comes from…[Read more]

silverliningsurfer replied to the topic How we win Saturday in the forum Football 2 weeks, 1 day ago
Defense needs to do what they’ve been unable to all season and generate pressure. If they let the BYU offense operate with the same level of confidence they’ve had all year I think things could get ugly.
I’m already mentally preparing for their stupid read-option bullshit to gash us but hopefully they can bait Retzlaff into some stupid decisions.

Shaping up to be a tough game. Hard to say we could beat anyone with how we’ve played the last few weeks, but given CU’s rise this year, their fans will actually be invested and it’ll be a hostile environment.

You aren’t wrong. I think most fans who are rational are trying to be patient with Isaac, but he also hasn’t shown much other than a few flashes here and there. A lot of frustration and disappointment comes from the fact that if he had played average, the team would probably be something like 6-2 or 5-3, and if he’s supposed to be the next guy,…[Read more]

silverliningsurfer replied to the topic BYU vs Utah Tickets in the forum Football 2 weeks, 6 days ago
I think anyone who sells tickets to a BYU fan (or frankly, someone who isn’t a confirmed Utah fan) is a disgrace. Could you imagine a Michigan fan selling their ticket to an OSU fan during a season they’re undefeated and have playoff aspirations? You should lose your fan card.
The only snowball’s chance in hell they have of pulling a miracle…[Read more]

silverliningsurfer replied to the topic Does the team want Isaac at QB? in the forum Football 3 weeks, 1 day ago
Nothing on the field as of yet, but I think a lot of people (at least myself, don’t want to speak for others) give him a lot of leeway due to the fact he’s so young and shouldn’t realistically be playing right now. To make an NFL analogy, it’s like a rookie QB playing before he’s “ready” and being OK with the mistakes because you’re looking at the…[Read more]

My primary concern with NIL is that players now are ONLY about money. I don’t blame them at all (especially since a lot of these guys won’t go pro so get all the money you can while you can), but it makes it easy to be concerned about the bigger/long-term picture.
This current environment made NICK SABAN of all people retire. If there was ever a…[Read more]

There is someone who posts on the Utah football subreddit who seems to be fairly well connected who said that they heard from multiple sources this last week that there is strife in the locker room and some “key players” have entitlement issues.
I’d hope it’s not Wilson, especially considering how he’s played the last few weeks, but his brother…[Read more]

Meddling in what way? Deciding who should be paid what? Overruling other decisions?
I don’t know a lot about the NIL procedure honestly but wouldn’t the AD be heavily involved in negotiating those contracts/payments?

Like many things the church says, it’s pretty two-faced and surface level. They are so desperate to project a certain image while their actions tell a different story.
Definitely wish Utah had NIL donors like Ainge and Smith seem to be becoming for BYU, especially for basketball, but let’s not pretend a future top-10 NBA draft pick would ever…[Read more]

No doubt one of the biggest issues, in hindsight, is that this season’s hopes were riding on a historically injury prone player to avoid an injury. Unfortunately, that was a statistical improbability.

Loving this copium and will be huffing it myself.
What makes the TCU loss suck even harder is that we get both BYU and ISU at home. We could guarantee them both 1 conference loss, and would need just 1 more along the way (UCF is favored against BYU right now for some reason…). I think the CCG is out of reach this season but they can still turn…[Read more]

silverliningsurfer replied to the topic Why Lud Gone Means Whitt Gonna Be Gone in the forum Football 4 weeks ago
It’ll be interesting to see, and I think it will depend on how the rest of the season shakes out. Not that a specific team outcome guarantees something from Whitt (e.g. a nosedive season could mean either he is determined to come back and go out on a higher note, or realizes the program needs a new voice), but there is a lot currently hanging in…[Read more]

This is great to hear and probably best case scenario. The program has been building for quite a while now and I think we all hope that that trajectory continues, even if it’s not a linear ascension.
That said, I think the biggest concern, even with Whitt, is how his pitch to recruits will land in this new NIL environment. In the past, they…[Read more]
