SkinyUte replied to the topic How much risk is too much? in the forum Football 4 years, 6 months ago
A University President’s primary job is to ensure the school makes money. Period. The idea that every single President would voluntarily vote for an action that causes every P12 school to lose their primary revenue stream just so they can play stupid political games is laughable on its face.
I believe that they made an incredibly difficult…[Read more]

Looks like this is one of the key drivers behind the potential cancellation. There’s no way any school takes that risk. Hopefully we know more by either spring or next fall as to the impact here.
A rare heart condition that could be linked with the coronavirus is fueling concern among Power 5 conference administrators about the viability of…

Someone wanna explain to me what racial injustice he is facing as a beloved football player for one of the most nationally recognized universities.

I’m not worried about the 20 year old players. They’ll likely be fine, regardless.
I’m worried about the support staff, the facilities folks, the coaches, the trainers, and everyone else who it might then spread to who isn’t a finely tuned DI athlete.

Look, if you’re the type to believe such things, then there’s not a single thing that I or anyone else could say here that would dissuade you. So by all means, continue to believe that Wayfair is running a child trafficking ring if that somehow makes you feel better.
That’s the convenient thing about the current broad and vast conspiracy theor…[Read more]

I’m so glad y’all found a safe space here, away from all that political talk that has no place in sports and was ruining other Utah fan boards!

1. Any time I edit a post, it seems to be including all sorts of jibberish into the edited version. See this post, for example.
2. If I go to “Recent Posts” they very rarely show accurate info on when the post was updated and how many replies there are. Someone could reply right now, and it will still show that the “Freshness” is from 3 hours…[Read more]

Ever told a joke at the expense of a religion? Cat-called a female? Told a dirty joke? Used the R word?
At work? WTF…absolutely not. Is that common practice where you work?
And the point is, wouldn’t we all hope for understanding and forgiveness for our mistakes? And if we would, then why shouldn’t we show that same understanding and for…

Of coarse he was called out, it’s the Wall Street Journal lol.
I must have missed something. Why would the WSJ “of course” be calling out Utah?

There’s now lots of former players and recruits coming forward.
Utah Football Players Speak Out After Morgan Scalley Gets Suspended For Racist Language
This could end up being far worse than we thought. I’m left hoping it doesn’t permanently cripple Utah’s football program. -

If Scalley made a special trip to fly out to the recruit and apologize, then there’s no way Whit didn’t know about it.
That’s…not good.

Not one of those things has ever been a racial slur.

The amazing thing to me is the number of people who are willing to defend Scslley with “as if you’ve never said anything like this before”.
Look, I’ve said lots of stupid things before, things that I wish I could immediately take back the moment I said them. But the N-word? I can very confidently say that word has never once passed my lips.…[Read more]

It not a good look for our majority white fan base to react by telling the African American community and players there is an expiration date to the pain they can feel or a certain number of instances needed to clear some make-believe bar to become problematic.
Well said.

I’ll wait to judge or defend until more info comes out (I.e. pattern of behavior, what was actually said, etc). I’d like to think that this was an isolated incident that was a simple monumental lapse of judgement, but I have no idea at this point…and neither do you.
I fear the damage may already be done though. If you’re a minority recru…[Read more]

The thing that’s hilarious is watching them live… they headbang, wear the whole spikes, etc. thing as if they were a death metal band.
Huh? I’ve seen Katatonia twice (at metal festivals) and didn’t notice any spikes, corpse paint, fake blood, or any of the other usual death metal accouterments. I just kinda thought they were boring, tbh. Tha…[Read more]

I loved Opeth back when the were an actual metal band. In fact, I’d put “Ghost Reveries” in my personal top 10 albums of all time. Their recent shift to prog…not so much.
Never cared much for Katatonia.
I typically skew more toward the heavier death metal end of the spectrum. Entombed, Behemoth, Death, Sigh, Obituary, Morbid Angel, Senti…[Read more]

All far too mellow for my tastes, but I did have a funny interaction yesterday that kinda relates.
A co-worker of mine knows that I listen to heavier music (she’s a country fan). She was so excited to forward me a YouTube clip, letting me know that she had “finally found a ‘death metal’ song that she liked”, and was wondering if I had heard of…[Read more]
