That was a rough vault.  Not sure we are coming back from that one.

I think this is related to their espn Ocho spoof from the movie dodgeball.  Once a year they air random  “sports”.   I’m sure it’s partly because sports are hard to find early August.

For some strange reason I have kinda followed Kuss’s career since he won the tour of Utah.  I am no biking expert, but my thoughts on him are that when he has good legs, he is probably top 5 in the world in climbing.  Unfortunately, he seems to have frequent off days, especially in colder weather, which will likely keep him from contending for overall victories (that and his so so time trialing… which is slowly improving).  That said, very glad to see him win a stage in the big one.  Slouches don’t win stages at grand tours.

I live on the east coast, and have to get up at 5:45 the next morning after the game.  I always say I will DVR it and watch the next day, but in today’s world, it feels next to impossible not to find out the score.  Ugh.  Wish we had more of the 3:30 pm Eastern/12:30 pm pacific and 8 pm eastern/5 pm pacific kick off times.

Some interesting facts from that list:

Archie Miller – Indiana  –  Bubble team, currently first team out of tournament in ESPN bracketology

Bob Huggins – WVU – Last place in big 12.  possibly might get into CBI.

Sean Miller – Arizona – Finished behind us in PAC-12, might be going to jail

Chris Holtman – tOSU – Bubble team, currently last team in tournament in ESPN bracketology.

So half of the coaches on the list either don’t have their team making the tournament, or at best, barely getting in.  Maybe you just shouldn’t pay your coach that much, period.

Also, don’t hire a Miller brother.

Best bet would be LSU blowing Alabama out of the water and embarrassing them, then LSU going on to win the SEC championship in a tight game.

Looking at it again, we probably could get into the Cotton bowl, but that isn’t even a lock….

Fiesta and Peach are playoff semifinal games

Rose is tied to PAC12 and Big 10 champions or runner ups

Sugar is tied to SEC and big 12 champions or runner ups

Orange is tied to ACC and SEC/BIG ten runner up or Notre Dame.

That basically leaves the Cotton bowl, which will automatically have the group of 5 team this year (unless the group of 5 team somehow makes the playoff).  That leaves one spot.  From what I can tell (rules not totally clear from my google search), the highest remaining ranked team that is not in the playoffs will get that spot.  Would we be the highest ranked team not in the playoff and not in one of the other bowls?  Depends on how it shakes out in the SEC (they currently have four teams ranked above us).

Lets play make believe. Ohio state, Clemson, Alabama, and LSU get into the playoffs.  Then Penn state and Oregon or USC to the rose, some horrible ACC team and Florida in the Orange, and Georgia and Oklahoma are in the Sugar.  Will we be higher ranked than a one loss Minnesota, Baylor, or even two loss Notre Dame or Michigan?  Probably, but not sure anything is guarenteed.

We HAVE TO, HAVE TO, HAVE to have USC lose this weekend.  First and foremost, it would esentially eliminate the PAC12 from the playoffs. I also fear that if they win Saturday, they will likely win out and end up in the PAC12 championship game.  Even if we win out go 11-1 in this scenario, we would probably end up in the Alamo bowl.  All of this is a moot point if we don’t take care of business tomorrow.

Not sure why in the world they include the Darryl Marsee poll…most of his results are the extreme outliers for teams (either highest ranked or lowest ranked).  Who knows, maybe this guy will look like a genius in the end, but right now it looks ridiculous (Penn state may not be great, possibly not top 25, or possibly not even top 50, but do you really think that they are only the 89th best team in the nation?  Although he does have BYU at 109, so maybe he is onto something)

I don’t blame Tuttle or harbor any animosity towards him.  If there is any blame to go around, it is for our recruiting and scouting staff for locking in on him and ceding to his desire that we stop recruiting any more quarterbacks.  Clearly he isn’t the talent that we (or several others) thought he would be.
