We are probably both right – different quarterbacks have different windows for what “open” means and which throws they can complete.
Barnes, to me, is an example of a player who regressed as the season progressed. The game seemed to speed up, and he seemed to get worse at processing.
I agree that our receivers are better this year, but I don’t…[Read more]

Receivers were separating, Barnes just couldn’t process fast enough. (Vele is creating separation in the NFL, he was doing it here as well).

stbone replied to the topic How do you feel about the hype going into the 2024 season? in the forum Football 7 months, 2 weeks ago
I have fallen into the same trap over the years of being let down when the team lost big games. One difference between now and some of the brutal games of the past is that, in the past, I was counting on miraculous events to occur so that we would win, whereas now we have the talent that we can compete and win without miracles. These miraculous…[Read more]

I worry less about the hype than about not being able to seize one of the opportunities that we are being given. The program is where it is today because we won a handful of key games in key seasons. Without ’04, there would have been no ’08, and without both ’04 and ’08, there is no PAC-12. We have been so close to reaching outlandish heights,…[Read more]

Wilson’s surgery is the big wild card. Who knows if Wilson will be ready to go next year.

To clarify, I didn’t compare illegals to slaves, I said we are creating a subservient class. I compared the economic fallout of eliminating the subservient class to the economic fallout from freeing the slaves to make the broader point that in issues of morality and human dignity, economics becomes trivial.
Saying that current immigration policy…[Read more]

There would certainly be economic fallout, but it wouldn’t all be on one side. For example, housing prices, in some markets, would probably drop because of lower demand. Regardless of the fallout, I don’t think economics justify the creation of a subservient class. (I am sure cotton prices went up with freeing slaves) Also, the system is only…[Read more]

We only care about international law when it is aligned with the objectives of the current administration. At the end of the day, and for whatever reason, the US government wants to flood the country with foreigners. There will be many more Aaron Lowes because of this.

Great point. That could definitely also be a consideration. Given how high-profile this would be, I could also see the uncertainty of trial along with the cost of losing being higher than normal.

It is usually to mitigate risk of the trial going sideways. Juries and trials can be very unpredictable. In my mind, the question is whether the prosecutor offered the deal because it was in the best interest of the community and the Lowe’s, or of the prosecutor’s career.

I agree 100%. (2)(a)(iii) “the actor knowingly created a great risk of death to another individual other than the deceased individual and the actor” would have been another easy path to aggravated murder.

Below is the list of prior convictions that can form part of aggravated murder. So, it isn’t any prior conviction, it has to be one of the list.
I agree they had good reason to charge him with aggravated murder. I don’t like the plea deal, but I’d guess it was done because they felt there were some weakness in the case that could lead to the…[Read more]

Under the Utah code, certain prior convictions make a murder an “aggravated murder.” Because evidence of those prior convictions would be probative, the judge would absolutely allow that evidence. You can’t use evidence of prior crimes/offenses to indicate a person committed an offense, but in this instance, the evidence of prior conviction proves…[Read more]

Everybody wishes the results were different last year, and there are things we wish had played out different. Also, there are some decisions that are inexplicable (e.g., giving practice reps to Cam instead of to NJ or BB).
Regarding a transfer portal QB – (1) I assume that they looked for one; and (2) Our NLI probably doesn’t allow deep-stacking…[Read more]

Not taking anything away from Sione and Cole, but them paired together was a situation where the sum was less than the parts. (We were playing with two box safeties and no FS). Assuming that Tao can turn into a competent FS (and his ceiling appears to be ridiculously high), I expect our combined safety play to be better than last year.

That doesn’t explain why Utah’s viewership was higher that other Pac12 teams.
