DL wasn’t here for the DWill trade. That was KOC. DL inherited a directionless team that had just traded their all NBA star but refused to rebuild. He’s since broken that team down by doing exactly what you said, letting the guys walk that weren’t taking the team down, and rebuilt it into probably 1 of the top 5 teams in the league currently with…[Read more]

Sweetness replied to the topic My three biggest concerns this year… in the forum Football 6 years, 5 months ago
I like the way you think! And I will say going into 2008, i wasn’t thinking undefeated season and it happened. I also wasn’t thinking 8 wins in 2014, and then devontae booker happened. There probably needs to be some luck and maybe a surprise or two from a player we’re not expecting much from, but the fact that 10 wins is even a possibility is…[Read more]

Sweetness started the topic My three biggest concerns this year… in the forum Football 6 years, 5 months ago
I keep seeing so much optimism from everyone about this season but I can’t help but have the following thoughts/concerns:
1) I can’t help but think at some point Huntley will get injured and be out 3-4 games, and I have very little confidence in our backup situation. Last year it was a luxury to have Troy come in and win the Arizona and Colorado…[Read more] -

How many years does he have to play? 1 or 2?

Sweetness replied to the topic Utah golfer Tomlinson… in the forum Other Ute Sports 6 years, 6 months ago
He has to be the highest non-team school individual. It’s looking like he will come in 2nd in that classification as there is a kid from UTEP that is three shots ahead of him with one hole left.
Still very impressive showing for the freshman. Too bad, he had it down to one stroke coming off the 16th and double bogey’d the 17th hole to fall 3…[Read more] -

Sweetness started the topic Just a reminder that Coach K is the 8th highest paid coach in College Basketball in the forum Basketball (Men) 6 years, 8 months ago
Not saying I think that he is a bad coach, but right now it is looking like a pretty shoddy return on investment. With the investment into facilities and coaching the program has made over the last 5 years, there are no excuses for missing the tournament two years in a row. I get that he was voted coach of the year by some media because he…[Read more]

Sweetness replied to the topic What are your guesses for how much they gave akot and markkanen? in the forum Basketball (Men) 6 years, 9 months ago
When the Arizona story originally broke I had a conversation with a head coach at the U, non basketball but knows many of the basketball coaches, and he said that Markennan was truly torn between coming to Utah and AZ, and that when AZ offered to pay him $40k to come that tipped the scales in their favor. So I have heard from a decent source that…[Read more]

Herbert at Oregon is poised for a big year, and Costello at Stanford played pretty well the last half of the season. Consistency and decision makers by are key for Tyler. Talent wise he’s up there with anyone in the conference. Just needs to put it together week in and week out.

Sweetness replied to the topic Solomon Enis, again… in the forum Football 6 years, 9 months ago
The accuracy thing kind of bugs me because it only factors in prediction at the time a prospect announces. I wish they only got one shot at a prediction. They would be a lot more careful about it, and it could be a more useful tool in my opinion. But i do agree, the fact that he has had all of his predictions right and he just put this in for Enis…[Read more]

Blair Aingulo, a west region guy who was on slc radio today or yesterday…I forget, said he thought Enis was go big to go to penn state…he just flipped his crystal ball from penn state to Utah. He must have received some news tonight that made him change his mind. This is definitely looking promising.

I’ve watched the crystal ball forecasts closely on a few recruits and from what I’ve been able to tell whenever there is a bunch of guys, especially national reporters, that all of the sudden start CBing a kid to a certain school, it pretty much always goes that way. I think what happens is the kid tells coaches/reporters and then they quickly go…[Read more]

I’ll be at the UCLA game. I’m starting the full time MBA program down there this fall so I’ll be moving to LA at the end of the summer. It would be fun to meet up with some Ute fans for that lgame. Kind of sucks it’s on a Friday though.

Until I see a quick/mass pick to one school I don’t put a lot of stock in crystal ball predictions. That being said, I’m not holding my breath for Sewell.

Sweetness replied to the topic Why no G5 would ever deserve a shot at the playoffs. in the forum Football 6 years, 10 months ago
On the contrary, I think it would cause a drastic improvement in OOC scheduling. Teams would no longer be worried, or would be less worried about having an OOC loss, knowing if they win their conference title they are in.
I do think OOC would feel a little less meaningful, but the conference season and division races would be so much more…[Read more]

Sweetness replied to the topic ARod hired at BYU in the forum They So Poo Poo 6 years, 11 months ago
This is a good point. I actually had thought of that, but thought it seemed pretty unlikely. Coaching is a fickle business and he hasn’t made the legacy/foundation money that would be necessary to take the lesser paying job at a lesser school. If it doesn’t work out at BYU for him, who knows where his next stop will be? You have to take the money…[Read more]

Sweetness replied to the topic Now that we have Tuttle, what happens with the offense? in the forum Football 6 years, 11 months ago
Yeah, I think it will look a little more similar to what we saw with TW, and so long as we have a solid RB with O-Line, I really, really like that picture :)! If TW could have just been a little quicker and more crisp with his decisions, he’d have been a hell of a QB, I think KingTut has a chance to be that guy.

??? I think we will always lose more than we win when it comes to recruiting against UW, so long as their program is not a mess. There’s a reason they’ve consistently had top 20-15 recruiting classes the last 7-8 years. Seattle is an amazing city and UW is a great school. No shame in losing this battle. We were never in it with Kaho.

Sweetness replied to the topic What needs to happen… in the forum Football 6 years, 11 months ago
I think 8 is the way to go. You go with the 5 power 5 champions, one G5, and two at large selections. I think it’s ridiculous that potentially the champions of the Big 10 and Pac12 might not have a chance to play for a national title.
No need to change the regular season schedule. This would amount to one extra game played by the final four…[Read more]
