tarheelute started the topic Free agency for its athletes: Waiver guidelines in the forum Football 5 years, 9 months ago
Currently only a small percentage of student-athletes seek transfer waivers each year. (Link) (Transfer Terms). 51 of 64 waivers for immediate eligibility have been approved for transferring players (NBC Sports)
Impact on Rising (Others); Rising will need to request a waiver to play this year. However, any changes to the current waiver process…[Read more]

Motivation for older brother to excel. Not sure about the dynamic working with both brothers at the U.

Brothers on the same team, not all that unique. But considering the Nacau brothers play the same position? Does one upstage the other? Seems like Colorado has bet that two brothers playing the same position is not an issue, as Liviska, as been joined by his brother Lavontae at CU. (Link)

tarheelute replied to the topic SEC 2017/18 Distribution: $43m per team – PAC12? in the forum Football 5 years, 9 months ago
You are correct – for 2016/17 numbers. I expect the 2017/18 not public, in summary, just yet.
2016/17 conference distributions:
– SEC: $40.9M per school.
– B1G: $37.0M per school.
– Big12: $36.5M per school.
– Pac12: $30.9M per school.
– ACC: $26.6M per school. -

My Texas A&M buddy provided the following: (SEC Link)
The SEC office distributed $43.1M to each of its 14 member schools …. monies are derived primarily from TV contracts, with bowls, NCAA tournaments, etc. contributing as well.
The $43.1M for 2017/18, is an increase of $2.2M per school as compared to the 2016/17 distribution of…[Read more] -

Agreed – on paper, eight months out it seems so. On the other hand, WSU, CAL, ASU and Utah for that matter, were not seen as big threats last year, to the demise of OR, USC and AZ.
Regardless, the 2019 season lines up as a great opportunity for Utes to repeat as South Division champs, and beating OR, UW or Stanford for the Championship. Lots of…[Read more]

tarheelute replied to the topic Looks like we picked up another RB in the forum Football 5 years, 10 months ago
Both are excellent overall athletes, probably the best pure athlete at their respective high schools. Wilmore is a RB, but also played OLB. Wissler was a RB and CB. Wilmore is 25 pounds heavier, more of a true RB. Wissler probably has a better shot a special teams, slot back, as I mentioned, more of a back up to Covey.

Another Covey, perhaps? 5th best in Utah, 134th nationally, (according to MAXPREPS). Looks pretty fast, maybe he can cross underneath, with speed, spelling Covey from the damage. Look a the pics on MAXPREPS – punt returner, slot back.
Otherwise as preferred walk-on, he’s got a confirmed spot perhaps, not as a scholarship athlete (85…[Read more]

Bowen and Bernard wish list.
1. Contain Khalil Tate (UA), Eno Benjamin (ASU) & Jermar Jefferson (OSU)
2. Pile drive JT Daniels (USC), Jack Colletto (OSU) & Zach Wilson (BYU)
3. Cut down anyone that crosses into the middle Laviska Shenault (CO), Hunter Bryant (UW) & Matt Bushman (BYU)
4. Intercept Justin Herbert (OU) over the middle (Championship… -

The Mercury News chimes in (link), reviewing the 2019 PAC12 divisional races, making Utah the “Easy pick” to repeat and face Oregon in championship.
Tyler Huntley, Zack Moss and Britain Covey are back to lead an attack that should function smoothly under new-old play caller Andy Ludwig. Defensively, the Utes were hit hard by attrition at…[Read more]

I liked Tuttle’s prospects and I like Rising’s. Both are waiting on waivers, and will, or have already starting working out with the new teams. See the story on Jack Tuttle from yesterday.

tarheelute replied to the topic What if Huntley switched to WR? in the forum Football 5 years, 10 months ago
My guess is that Rising gets the waiver, and competes well enough to start or backup Huntley. Huntley will not switch to WR, even if Rising is the starter. If Huntley goes down or has a couple of down games warranting a change, Rising will, excuse the pun, rise the occasion, end the year as the starter.

I absolutely do not think the Utes are better off without Whittingham. He and I are the same age, and I am a big fan. But we all have to leave what we love at some point, me the military after 37 years. However, I do believe he understands this and sees Ludwig as his best option, to go out on his own terms and as a winner.
Just sooner than later.

For better worse, and my bet is for the better, Ludwig is Whittingham’s OC choice the make a run before he retires. Whittingham is comfortable with Ludwig’s version of the run/pass option offense that I expect he attributes mightily to the Sugar Bowl win. Whittingham’s message by selecting Ludwig, is that same run oriented offense, with a domin…[Read more]

There were many, including myself, who were intrigued by the idea that Utah went after Rich Rodriguez. I expect if he had been successful, or if he is successful at Ole Miss, he would take a HC job if offered; so one or two years as an OC. Turnover again, albeit expected. And I expect Sark and McKoy might be similarly offered opportunities if…[Read more]

Looks like the Utes could do far worse than Mike McCoy. Ute history – I remember the Arizona Game, and the and the top 10 final ranking in 1994. Mike also QB’d the first back to back wins over BYU in over two decades, the famous pair of 34-31 wins. Those were two great years to be a Ute fan. Agreed
Raelon Singleton, who left Utah last year, had 2 receptions for 13 yards in his final game for Houston, and only 14 receptions, 221 yards, and three TDs for 2018. He could have done far better staying at Utah.
Mariner will probably not fare better, but I wish him good luck.
