Looks like the Utes could do far worse than Mike McCoy. Ute history – I remember the Arizona Game, and the and the top 10 final ranking in 1994. Mike also QB’d the first back to back wins over BYU in over two decades, the famous pair of 34-31 wins. Those were two great years to be a Ute fan. Bring him on. – Props to Coach McBride as…[Read more]

Agreed
Raelon Singleton, who left Utah last year, had 2 receptions for 13 yards in his final game for Houston, and only 14 receptions, 221 yards, and three TDs for 2018. He could have done far better staying at Utah.
Mariner will probably not fare better, but I wish him good luck.

tarheelute replied to the topic I think one play was the difference in the forum Football 5 years, 11 months ago
Three observations from the stands, other than turnovers.
1. WRs unable to get separation or unwillingness to come back to the ball
2. From the 2d QTR on NW’s defense looked like NIU’s faster to the running gaps, turning 7-8 yard runs into 2-3 yard runs
3. There was something in the DNA that failed last night. The team that held UW to 3 poi…[Read more]

Lots of Ute red everywhere around San Diego. Only saw one NW family leaving Denver Int’l yesterday morning. Lots of WU fans leaving DIA for John Wayne Airport, heading north. Interesting several UW fans are going to our game, this afternoon, before heading north for the Rose Bowl tomorrow.

tarheelute replied to the topic So it will take a MIRACLE for Huntley to play. in the forum Football 5 years, 11 months ago
He wont play til next year – my vote/expectation. Next year is too big an opportunity to repeat and win the PAC-12. The Utes have enough to win the game today.
Note: The weather may be a factor, however not favoring either team. Heading off to the beach for a walk, breakfast then off to the stadium! -

QB 6-0, 185″ 2,197 yards, 68.5 completion percentage, 17 TDs, 3 INTs. Looks like a good JUCO quality athlete. I guess we must trust that the coaching staff saw something special.

tarheelute replied to the topic Seven Players Transfer from the Cal Bears in the forum Football 6 years ago
Mostly decent offensive players, however as noted elsewhere on UteHub, transfers within the PAC-12 entail an additional year’s wait, unless the losing school agrees. Agreed about the degree, but obviously not their primary goal, at least not at CAL. Too bad for them.

tarheelute replied to the topic next OC? Next quarterbacks coach (could be same)? in the forum Football 6 years ago
Fair enough. But if Harding was their Number 1 choice, they would have announced. Harding may be selected, but as 2nd or 3rd choice, albeit the narrative will be that Harding was their 1st choice all along.

Not so sure it will be Harding, otherwise would not Whittingham have already announced? My bet is they’re considering candidates, who are currently preparing their current teams for a bowl. And now that the early signing period is over, what’s the immediacy.

Many teams have transfers, for any number of reasons. The San Francisco Chronicle reports Cal quarterback Ross Bowers among seven players leaving Bears
The group, headlined by junior quarterback Ross Bowers, also has freshman running back Johnny Adams Jr., sophomore receiver Greyson Bankhead, senior linebacker Derron Brown, sophomore running…[Read more] -

Whittingham finds/interviews/recommends, Harlan works the contract/money. Generally in that order. All three must agree, to culminate the deal. I expect there is some compromise if their is a difference of opinion/interest. I’m not sure Wittingham or any coach had complete hire/fire decision authority, however the HC, is given great…[Read more]

tarheelute started the topic Coaches Poll Ballot Analysis – Eastern Bias? in the forum Football 6 years ago
USA Today reported the individual ballots of Coaches Poll (Interactive Database).
I looked at the ballot averages overall for UW, WSU and Utah, by P5/Non-P5 and Time Zone (E,C,M&P). It’s hard to see the bias the East Coast supposedly has against the PAC-12 Schools, or any P5/Non-P5 bias. I looked at only the PAC-12 Schools UW, WSU and Utah.…[Read more]

Technically Oregon could have been selected, and many others, in addition to Pace thought it would happen. Should he have been convinced? And, it happened at least once in recent years, notably when Utah was relegated to Las Vegas bowl (6th tie-in) when the Utes deserved at least Foster Farms Bowl (4th), considering the 17th ranked Utes were…[Read more]

We will see. But I expect Utah, ASU and Colorado (defense first teams) to pound down the competition over the next few years. Good for us, we won’t see Colorado until the last game of the year.

And if we look at our “rival” Colorado, certainly as their new coach Mel Tucker comes on board.
Colorado recruiting classes – ranking within Pac12:

– 2014 – #12 in Pac12

Pace he asks a interesting question. The commitment discussion can get complicated. But I don’t think he’s a BYU fan, for asking.

How many departing scholarship seniors depart this year? Eleven I thought. Should that not limit the number of new recruits Utah can bring in on scholarship? The Ute 247 (76) Rivals (74) is not great, however the Rivals quality number of 3.11 ranks 29th, and the 247 Avg” of 85.88 puts Utah in the low 40s I believe.
** After I hit ‘Submit’, I…[Read more]

Next year there is clear potential to repeat as South Division champs, and with it, another opportunity for a New Year’s day bowl. I expect both the offensive line and Shelly will improve, perhaps over the next three weeks. If not? When (if) Huntley goes down next season, the Utes are in trouble.
