I reserved three tickets through https://utahtickets.com/holidaybowl/ , at $125. I would like to ensure Utah fills its allotment.

Tough losses, bad calls, questionable game plans, collective negativity – all things of the past. Coach Whittingham and his staff have been masters of bowl planning. Only good vibes and good things going forward, starting on the 31st.

tarheelute replied to the topic #17 in the forum Football 6 years ago
I suppose I should thankyou for the vocab lesson. So thanks. On the other hand not sure the Utes are the “antithesis” of Oklahoma. A quick look at ESPNs Team Efficiency numbers has Utah rank 41st on offense and 13th on defense, whereas Oklahoma is 2nd on offense and 91st on defense. The total teams assessed are 130. If Utah had been ranked at…[Read more]

tarheelute replied to the topic Our Fr QB in the forum Football 6 years ago
I had reasonable expectations of a Freshman, red-shirt or otherwise; I did not expect Shelly to lead the Utes to a win, in his fourth start against arguable, the best, second best defense in the Pac-12. Too much to ask. The idea that the coaches could have provided him a game plan, within his talent and experience is a little much as well. Our…[Read more]

tarheelute replied to the topic One dimensional versus non-dimensional in the forum Football 6 years ago
And as far as the receivers. Not so optimistic. To much reliance on their own speed and talent rather than fundamentals. Seems like Covey, and Dixon were the only receivers that focused on routes and creating separation. Not so sure Guy Holliday is the quality coach to get Ute receivers to next level.

I retrospect I should have gone. Probably more important to support the team for the championship, rather than the bowl. Once the championship moves to Las Vegas will do both.

tarheelute started the topic Respect for Covey, but payback as well in the forum Football 6 years ago
I expect regardless of the respect Washington seems to be showing for Covey, (see the Seattle Times Article) (and another) the Utes on both sides of the ball will be looking for a little payback for the purposeful punishment inflicted on Covey, back in September. No one is picking the Utes to win, so be it! No moral victories, so be it! But all…[Read more]

tarheelute replied to the topic Why the Utes Will Win the Pac-12 Championship Game in the forum Football 6 years ago
Alternatively: Five reasons why UW wins.
1. Defense – Washington is coming off quite a statement game defensively
2. Myles Gaskin – big games against Utah in September, and again last Friday.
3. Huskies can gain ground with more than just Gaskin – depth on offense, at every position
4. Jake Browning – 38 wins – exploitable in the big games?
5.…[Read more] -

Now were talking – From an article on AthlonSports.com Five reasons why Utah wins.
1. QB Jason Shelley – steady at the helm
2. Utah’s offense is finishing drives now – confidence, confidence, confidence
3. Utah’s defense is strong enough to shut down Washington – make UW one dimensional on offense
4. Deep threats have emerged at receiver for…[Read more] -

Are we fans due for another Mitch Wishnowsky run for a key first down? Or does UW’s kickers give Covey a shot at a run-back. Tune in tomorrow – same Bat-time, same Bat-channel! – well close.

tarheelute started the topic The CFB rankins rigged against WSU? in the forum Football 6 years ago
Last night’s CFB rankings left WSU out of the top 12, and out of a New Year’s bowl. WSU is rightfully indignant, considering four 9-3 teams ahead of them. Okay one 9-3 team is worthy; Washington, with their head-to-head win over WSU last Friday.
“There is not a doubt in my mind that if WSU was named Stanford, USC, or UCLA they would be in the…[Read more]

tarheelute replied to the topic Utah and Washington losses in the forum Football 6 years ago
I’m not at all sure that Browning is as bad as you, or some others portray him, even when under pressure – Very few QBs excel, when chased by 280+ pound defensive linemen (perhaps ASU’s Wilkins was the exception). I’m not going to roll through the stats, or pick any particular game apart, but I understand Browning has 37+ wins, over four years,…[Read more]

tarheelute replied to the topic Utah and Washington losses in the forum Football 6 years ago
Bottom line, I don’t believe Utah’s “A” game can beat UW’s (thanks for the catch) “A” game, all things considered. But, if Utah can start the first half, on Friday, where they left off on Saturday night, the Utes have a chance, perhaps a chance to pull off what they did against Stanford, the last time the Ute’s beat a national ranked team, and the…[Read more]

I agree that Browning, a senior QB with nearly forty wins, should have a considerable advantage, over our freshman (Redshirt) QB, Shelly who has only three. And no doubt the Washington State win was impressive in the snow and wind. But your Husky wins over Oregon State and Ucla, and our losses to Cal and Oregon, you should be concerned – on any…[Read more]
