tarheelute replied to the topic Dampier or Wilson? in the forum Football 6 days, 1 hour ago
CBS Sports is high on Dampier
Dampier is going to give Utah an entirely new look. He’s one of just five FBS quarterbacks since 2016 with at least 2,500 yards passing and 1,000 yards rushing in a single season, joining the likes of former Heisman Trophy winners Lamar Jackson and Jayden Daniels. He did that while playing under offensive coordinator…[Read more]

Living in Colorado I am surrounded by resurgent CU Buff fans. The older fans believe that Sanders has not just changed the willing column, but changed the culture, one far more appealing to blue chip football recruits. These fans had been waiting for the return of the McCartney era, but no longer. Sanders is the wave of the future. If he…[Read more]

Two Rose Bowls, with key players opting out, did it for me. Opting out of the Rose Bowl? Really? Where are the Ute, NFL standouts, that explain turning you back on your teammates. No excuses, no respect of the game, no respect period.

tarheelute replied to the topic What's your favorite Cam Rising moment or game? in the forum Football 2 months, 1 week ago
^^^^ The most electric moment ^^^^ I noticed the Oregon team watching the big screen, Rising was living rent free in their brains, from that point on. The video, the grey US Salt Lake City uniforms, the crowd, quite the experience.
Covey’s punt run-back was a dagger, but this was Rising’s best game.
And this is where Rising excelled, the…[Read more]

tarheelute replied to the topic Season Ending. Farewell Cam Rising. in the forum Football 2 months, 1 week ago
Going back to 1978, my freshman year, University of Utah beat BYU at Rice Stadium, 23-22, when Randy Gomez threw the touchdown to Frank Henry link, to win the game, I’ve watch QBs come and go, Cam Rising the latest, and favorite.
Cameron J. Rising is now part of Ute football history, I do not think he plays another down. But I will remember the…[Read more]

My last four – it evens out.
Rose Bowl vs Ohio State = L
Home vs Oregon = W (Covey’s runback)
Away vs Colorado (2019) = W (The Defense bare-chested prior to the game in a snowstorm)
Home (2018) vs USC = W (Lynn Swann in the stadium) -
tarheelute started the topic Arizona, Payback or Trap in the forum Football 3 months ago
I had thought Arizona might be a let-down, a possible trap. Not now, Oklahoma State’s late comeback bid was a blessing, even as Utah played prevent. Utah’s defense will remain focused.
Payback… more likely. That late touchdown, with the game no longer in question. Fisch left Utah and fans feeling disrespected. All righty then, see you in…[Read more]

Is this is our “USC” game? I think so, and the Utes will be ready. Excepting a key injury or excessive turnovers, I expect an exciting game and a convincing win. Look for the tight ends, and running backs to be key.

tarheelute started the topic QBs Wilson and Johnson will Dominate the B12 in 2025 in the forum Football 3 months, 1 week ago
I watched Avery Johnson (Kansas St) and Isaac Wilson (Utah) last Saturday as they led their teams to wins. Good performances each, against good teams. Johnson is a sophomore with a considerable head start in playing time, but Wilson looked the better throwing QB. I expect they will be the top two B12 QBs next year, and I look forward to seeing…[Read more]

Massey, a composite, has compiled 13 other polls, but will add and average other polls into its composite. Massey and Dokter Entropy have Utah at 15, Daniel Curry Index has Utah at 43, the other 10 or so spread out between.

Buk Mawut Buk, now 25, pleaded guilty to Lowe’s murder and the attempted murder of a woman injured in the shooting on Sept. 26, 2021, Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill said. Police say he fired multiple shots at the two during a heated argument after the football player asked Buk’s friends to move their car.

The alternative is that Whittingham remains for another two, three, five+ years. Like Bill Snyder and Kirk Ferentz, his is devoted to his team and college football.
He has the support from the AD, boosters, the local and national media, respect of the larger network of coaches, most fans, and most importantly Utah Ute coaches and players. He…[Read more]

The cost of holding off on Rising in 2023, assures his QB1 position for 2024. Not many coaches (or players) have the commitment and patience. Lets hope it works in 2024.

When I first saw Ja’Quinden run, he reminded me of Eric Dickerson, both with a upright, darting running style. If he does end up at SMU, I expect they may see the similarities. Potential – who knows, JJ may not be able to pound it out. Dickerson had a running partner however, Craig the other half of the ‘Pony Express’.
Not so fun fact:…[Read more]

tarheelute replied to the topic Final PAC-12 All-Conference Teams in the forum Football 1 year ago
Performance on the field should absolutely determine all-conference teams. But for my money, Bishop’s dominating performance, on-the-field IQ and leadership, relentless effort, should be rewarded. He was 1st team quality. If he returns for 2024 he will prove it.
And Bullock over Bishop, really? For the last two seasons, I’ve joked that teams…[Read more]

Pre-season expectation: an 9 win year, including a bowl game (expecting the Las Vegas Bowl)
Otherwise:
1. Beat the P12 Killers USC & UCLA – done! Bonus one of the OR/WA games.
2. Win and 3rd PAC-12 – Unlikely, but reasonable.
3. Win the Rose Bowl – The Dream!
4. Go to the Playoff – The Fantasy! - Load More
