This is a message board brotha and it’s fun to debate about it. That’s what message boards are for. The penalty is just another one of those things in the rivalry that is fun to talk about. If you don’t want to debate it, simply don’t comment on it. But it’s not childish behavior, it’s just a message board.

I feel like this has been rehashed over and over again. Go watch the video. When the hold happens, Retzlaff is upright and looking straight at the receiver being held. I don’t know if Retzlaff could have gotten him the ball and we’ll never know, but the hold absolutely affected the play.

I’m with Krindor on this—it’s not exactly a hot take to say BYU probably isn’t one of the top teams in the country right now. I’d put them more in the 13-20 range. That said, you have to respect their on-field results. In a sport as vast as college football, where not every team can face each other, rankings have to be based on resumes.

That being said, I think most BYU fans recognize the team would likely get blown out in the first round of the playoffs, assuming they make it that far. Honestly, I’m not even confident BYU could take down Kansas at this point.

I’ve never once started a thread about the call. I’ve only responded to Utah fans. And I’ve been on Ute Hub for 3+ years even when you guys were at your most successful. I feel like I’ve earned my right to comment on things that I disagree with. And plus I don’t hate Utah. I root for them whenever they’re not playing BYU.

And you might wonder why I’m not on Cougarboard, and that’s because I just don’t like posting over there. Frankly I feel like they’re kind of assholes on CB and you can’t post about anything that goes against public opinion or else they ridicule you.

Tony has done a good job on this board of keeping civility but also allowing diverse opinions. Debating is all in good fun and I’m not trying to p**s people off.

We’ll never know what could have happened, because your guy held the receiver. I just rewatched the play, it took 3 seconds of game time for the defensive lineman to get to Retzlaff. The WR was held after the first second. Retzlaff had 2 seconds of Gametime to throw the ball, which is plenty of time to throw a ball.

You guys should be happy it was only a holding penalty and not a 91 yard touchdown, because the corner was beat. BYU earned this win.

I know it’s a highly unpopular opinion here but I’m sticking with it. I’m sorry the game had to end in such a sucky way. The game should have never been that close to begin with. I wish BYU would have had a more definitive win.

Go to the 17 second mark when the hold took place on the video and tell me if Jake Retzlaff is on his ass or not.

But at 2nd and 18, Utah probably has to throw the ball, which they weren’t able to do much of last game. The momentum is also a factor. BYU still likely gets the stop, but we’ll never know.

The holding, I don’t think we know if it was inconsistent or not. Terry McAulay seems to insist that the holding in question was more egregious than what was happening all night. And who’s to say that Retzlaff doesn’t throw it to the WR that was being held? He was his first read. I don’t know because I haven’t watched all the plays myself.

Anyways, I’ll stop now because it’s one of those situations where byu fans will always believe it was a hold whereas Utah fans will think otherwise. Thanks for the back and forth
