I am excited about the upside to this move. I would argue that if Williams had been even a mediocre QB last year given the amount of NFL talent on the 2016 team, the Utes would have easily won the south. I think it is a high upside low risk move. We had seen enough, no?

Doesn’t matter – go undefeated and win the Pac 12 and we are in. Very unlikely considering we haven’t been able to win even the south in a year like last year where we had a boatload of NFL talent.

I cant help but think this paints a negative picture regarding the effectiveness of Ute coaching. 4th most draft choices in nation means by definition this team was talented enough to win at least the Pac 12 South for heavens sake. Seems like a lost opportunity.

Agree exactly Uteusmc. Perhaps we collectively should have different expectations than to default to the “No one thinks we are better than USC, Washington, Stanford, and Oregon” mindset. Why not? I started a thread on this. Should have just piled on here. My apologies but the coaching gets a C- at best. NFL scouts and talent evaluators are telling you last years Ute team should have been great.

Does the bottom line not at some point end with Whitt?

I don’t think its petty. Is it petty of me to have higher expectations for the program than a middling P5 school. We now have the facilities, location (yes it is desirable to lots of city kids from Cali and Texas as well as Pacific Islanders) so what’s the problem?

Indeed a great coach and man by all accounts. A true giant not only in Utah but in the history of college sports, universally respected.

I don’t know but IMO we were are most dynamic offensively when we ran variations of Urban Myers spread/zone-option read type offense in 03/04 & 08/09. Perhaps the major difference is Alex Smith and Brian Johnson are not here nor coming from what we can see

Just get in the tournament. What is the projections for the Utes in the Pac 12 this year? I don’t keep nearly as close tabs on hoops as the gridiron.

I voted C. I think by definition finishing 3rd in a 6 team division is a straight C regardless of expectations going into a season.
