What Capital Ute said about Whit being a back seat driver on the O may hold some water. The post game guy last night was alluding to the fact that many former insiders say Whit hamstrings the OC through interfering and injecting his conservative nature into what the OC is trying to do. IF this is truly the case are we sure Whit is the best we…[Read more]

TexanUte replied to the topic So close to finishing a full season, Hill walking to the locker room in the 4th in the forum Football 8 years ago
The lack of breaking through in the Pac 12 after 6 full seasons is as much on Hill as anyone. He would be lauded if they had won a division title so why shouldn’t he take some of the blame now.

TexanUte replied to the topic Just returned from the game, 3 things really really bugged me. in the forum Football 8 years ago
I don’t think the officiating explains the failures this year. I would blame lack of offensive innovation vs. officiating. Even a mediocre red zone performance would have had us with at most 1 loss this season.

Watch what a sharp young offensive mind does in Texas next year in terms of a turn around with the talent that went 5 and 7 this year. I think Whit is a cool dude who is living in the past and hasn’t surrounded himself with innovative offensive minds. Also heard discussion on post game show last night that former players complain that Whit…[Read more]

I still cant believe I wake up to the fact that Colorado has won the division before our Utes! That blows the whole argument it takes time.

Let him have a beer if he can help this offense

Couldn’t agree more. Plus his decision making on the fly is non existent. Case in point:
– throwing the ball away on a 2 point conversion instead of just throwing up for grabs to give your guys a chance? WTF?
– Literally freezing in place on a zone option read instead of making a sharp decisionGuy cant think on his feet

I have no reason to think it is going to be any better next year if something doesn’t change. New OC perhaps?

TexanUte replied to the topic I love Whit, but if either OC is still employed at Christmas, I may have to in the forum Football 8 years ago
Why would Lane Kiffen leave Alabama to come to Utah as an O coordinator? Perhaps you were speaking about head coach?

Doesn’t have to be a big coach but a dynamic offensive mind as an OC. Why does any school become a destination? Because of a history of winning. Has anyone ever been to Norman OK? Not a better school academically and certainly not a better destination from a quality of life perspective but a long history of success. Though experiment – If…[Read more]

TexanUte replied to the topic Bowl Predictions??? in the forum Football 8 years ago
Good lord. Which ever bowl we go to it will give us a chance to get some momentum for our 7th attempt to win the stinking south. Not that USC is on the rise or anything.

I don’t know Utah’s finances but it would seem they are very cash flow positive on their football program. How did Colorado turn around so fast with a program that was less esteemed and valued across country past decade? At some point we have to look at coaching don’t we? Not assuming we need to get the biggest name coach but maybe someone…[Read more]

How many years without a single division win before we should want the whole thing blown up? The sample size is growing and at some point we are what we are… Slightly above average for a Power 5 school and that’s it.

TexanUte replied to the topic I haven't felt this low since my dog died 20 years ago. in the forum Football 8 years ago
I think we will feel better if we just admit we are a mediocre program and accept it. We are not progressing towards anything and in fact were closer to winning a division title in our first year in Pac 12. I am not the AD but if I were I would try to get a new O coordinator and scheme and try a couple more times with Kyle. If we go on 8 or…[Read more]

TexanUte replied to the topic 9-3 finishing with a win over a road W over a top 10 tm in the forum Football 8 years ago
A win today plus bowl win will cap another good season but not a “massive achievement” IMO. I would save that description and use it if we ever win the damn South and play in the Pac 12 championship game. That would be a massive achievement. Still cant get myself across the fact that CU may be playing in that game before us considering where…[Read more]

TexanUte replied to the topic Agree or disagree: in the forum Football 8 years ago
In reading through the reasons we don’t get it done there seems to be a bit of Uncle Rico syndrome: “If coach would have put me in we would have won state”. In the Utes case it’s running back didn’t follow blockers, Oregon made a play, if only we had more 4 star recruits etc. Whatever the case is we seem incapable of winning our division. As…[Read more]

Sugar Bowl win over Bama.. Hands down IMO especially with Alabama’s success this decade. Was arguably there worst beat down in the Saban era.

Good points but disagree with #2 to some degree. 6 full seasons in Pac 12 South and I think if Colorado wins Saturday everyone other than Utah will have played in the Championship game. If we couldn’t win in these interim USC coaching years how will we win when USC, UCLA, the AZ schools all improve? Not to mention Colorado has come farther…[Read more]
