TexanUte replied to the topic Kickoffs are stupid… video in the forum Football 6 years, 11 months ago
In the NFL the touchback is over utilized by the kicking team. Football outsiders or one of the analytical services did analysis indicating the “mortar kick” should be utilized more often – that is where the kicker kicks it extra high but a little shorter ensuring the kick returner will not be able to take a touch back. Mortar kicks in the NFL…[Read more]

Kick Lake City as someone mentioned is apropos. At 4800 feet elevation Rice Eccles has about 20% less atmosphere than most low elevation locations. Balls go farther but not necessarily any more accurately. Gay was straight and long.

Don’t think he had 75 million guaranteed at FSU

Jimbo claims they were NOT investing in the facilities or the program and complained constantly about antiquated facilities. Not sure why the perception that he had it all. If (and it is a big if) he wins big at A&M he will cement his legacy much more than staying at FSU. He also had bad feelings about that place given the situation with his…[Read more]

Again a false dichotomy – win the south automatically means getting slaughtered? No I have long term aspirations after Whitt retires of getting a young dynamic coach that leads Utah to both a Division and conference and college playoff birth. Think big.

No way man – I would much prefer to take a division/conf championship once every 5 to 10 years and perhaps have intermittent sucky years than be consistently mediocre and never, ever, I mean never win a division title. That is just me

And if Alabama doesn’t want people to question their credentials they shouldn’t play the least amount of Power 5 games in the country. Disgraceful schedule and it continues going forward with such out of conference powers as Mercer and The Citadel in coming years. Hope Clemson blows their doors off.

TexanUte replied to the topic 2 loss big ten champ finishes 5th in major playoff consideration in the forum Football 6 years, 11 months ago
A one loss Pac 12 team champ would likely be in. I don’t think the conference was that strong this year. Having said that undoubtedly the SEC gets way too much deferential treatment regardless of actual quality year to year. The SEC was down this with more bad teams than good. I don’t know about all of you but I am hoping for both Clemson…[Read more]

No doubt Alabama gets an unfair benefit of the doubt based on reputation however had Wisconsin won Saturday night Alabama would have been left out.

My pick for Utah coach should Whitt have stepped down (retired) just signed on with Nebraska – Scott Frost. Turned a zero win team into a top 20 undefeated team in 24 months.

The coaches have to sit out a year if they move from one school to another, right?

TexanUte replied to the topic Food for thought in the forum Football 6 years, 11 months ago
I have been to a half dozen or so Cowboy games in Jerry world and the place is an engineering marvel and a dumb football stadium at the same time. Cowboys have had absolutely no home field advantage irrespective of their level of overall play in any given year.
If you are in town I recommend seeing the place. All the local sports radio hosts…[Read more]

Coaches can jump from school to school for 6 or 7 million with no repercussions but a player moves for his own benefit he must sit out a year so we can keep the “integrity” of this multi billion dollar/year “amateur” sport.

With Chip Kelly joining the Pac 12 South I wouldn’t expect any division wins in next 5 years though what do I know as I would have bet big money that Utah would win the South before Colorado.

I think it is a bad analogy because it presumes that just because Tennessee hired a string of bad coaches that Utah is obligated to do the same.

My argument against Whitt is he had a team full of NFL players but still disappointed in the end.

Continuity not always a good thing if the continuity means continuation of mediocrity. Programs can turn on a dime with the right hire such as Urban Myer to Utah in 2003. That was an example of a discontinuity that proved to be program changing.
Bottom line: Continuity sometimes good sometimes not. By association sometimes discontinuity…[Read more]
