  • This is what happens when you turn out to be a mid-tier program in the Big XII. Only consistent winning and NIL payouts will fix this situation.

  • In sports, as in life, it’s better to do something a year too early than a year too late. By that I mean is that if Whitt has any notion of retiring, it would be best for the program if it happened sooner rather than later.

Obviously, he can stay as long as he wants and his current contract runs for three more seasons. However, what you most…[Read more]

  • It is an affectation. Sort of like a soul patch.

  • Cam’s NIL easily gets you three (or more) top-flight performers at other positions. You’re better letting him go, as long as you have Isaac at a reasonable rate (which you will seeing as Isaac hasn’t really done anything to warrant a huge QB expense), and use that money to help the team in other positions.

I do want to say one thing, and that…[Read more]

  • Cam has already suffered three season-ending injuries as a member of the Utes. He’s also been at Utah for six seasons. Everything has an expiration date, and Cam’s relationship with Utah has reached it.

  • The Miami Ute replied to the topic Ludwig in the forum Football 1 month ago

Ludwig is 61. He’s never going to be a head coach. I doubt that Scalley would keep him but you never know. We can blame Ludwig all we want but it’s likely that the offense he runs is a figment of Whitt’s imagination. By that, I mean that Whitt is probably giving Lud guidance as to what he wants out of the offense and Lud is putting together…[Read more]

  • USC, Oregon, Colorado, Arizona, Alabama, Mississippi…and Penix had not one, but two stellar years at UW. He actually had the same number of pass attempts in his first season at UW as he did during his four years at Indiana. Penix’s only injury at UW was hurting his ankle in the NCG. I have zero doubt that Cam could get picked up by a major…[Read more]

  • You’re right. And it’s interesting why that data point isn’t more important. When a college QB is transitioning to the NFL, things like that are part of the analysis package, possibly because a lot of money is involved.

  • Yeap. The recruit star system has been shown, at times, to be nothing but a popularity contest. Look at BSU, where you have All World 5 Star Malachi Nelson, fresh out of USC, backing up 3 Star RS SO Maddux Madsen (who’s from American Fork, but that’s just by the way).

  • The Miami Ute replied to the topic Swan ready for DC? in the forum Football 1 month ago

There’s no doubt in my mind that he would probably be the DC. However, you’d have to watch for heartburn from Shah, who’s probably the most decorated assistant at Utah and has a proven record of success with DBs. I mean, Shah has been in Utah for 13 years now. You’d think he would be politicking for a DC position, if not in Utah, then somewhere else.

  • There are a lot of deep pocketed outfits that will need a new QB come 2025. If Cam demonstrates himself to be fully healthy by say Jan/Feb 2025, I believe he could start a bidding war if he was amenable to that. I would think that a healthy Cam Rising would be the most coveted QB in the entire portal.

The Delta Center broke the records, and it wasn’t even close, for merch and beer sales in the first UHC game versus the Blackhawks. I literally stood in line for over an hour to buy an inaugural game t-shirt. They’re going to be the Yeti next year but UHC merch will always be collectors’ items.

Maybe the Jazz and rebrand to what they always should have been, the Utah Stars.

  • 1. 15 October 2022 – Utah 43 – USC 42. Two point conversion to win it.
    2. 1 January 2023 – tOSU 48 – Utah 45. Cam rips off a 62 yard TD run to put the Utes up 35-21 at HT.
    3. 2 December 2022 – Utah 47 – USC 24. Cam shreds USC for well over 300 yards and 3 TDs as the Utes romp to a second consecutive PAC title.

    Honorable Mention: 18…[Read more]

That’s a good question. I will say that the name “Utah Hockey Club” is getting traction live and online. I like the throwback and minimalistic vibe it exudes.

  • The Miami Ute replied to the topic When do we get the Stanley Cup? in the forum NHL 1 month ago

The Knights went to the Stanley Cup as an expansion franchise. The Panthers went to the Stanley Cup in 22-23 as the lowest-ranked team in the playoffs. Anything is possible. This UHC, with all of its young talent, is definitely on the way up. In a way, they remind me of the Islanders of the mid-70s and Oilers of the mid-80s before they hit the…[Read more]

Oh, I agree. I personally don’t want Cam back as a Ute next season. However, I have zero input in the decision. That’s all between Whit, Lud, and Cam. And Whit might feel that he’ll be damned if he’s going to let a healthy Cam go to another school and lead them to glory.

Who knows what will happen? Of course, this whole conversation becomes…[Read more]

  • Yeah, she’s wrong. I mentioned the case of Cam McCormick, a TE at the U, who’s a ninth-year senior as we speak. In addition to a normal redshirt, he missed three seasons due to injury.

Are you familiar with Michael Penix Jr’s injury history? If you’re not, it makes Cam look like the Teflon Man.

2018: Tore his left ACL three games into his freshman season – missed the rest of the season
2019: Right shoulder injury (Shoulder Clavicle Fracture) – missed the rest of the season
2020: Re-tore his left ACL – missed the rest of the…[Read more]

I agree. I also think that he’ll be playing football again next season. And it’ll be, as I said, with a top team looking to make a run and needing an experienced QB to run the show. That’s Cam to a T…if he plays his cards right, he might be able to make more money than he ever did at Utah.
