The Miami Ute replied to the topic Should Whitt stay or go? in the forum Football 1 month ago
There’s the way things are and the way you wish them to be. Cruel reality will tell you that Whitt has three seasons remaining on his contract. In addition, if you watched yesterday’s press conference, you’d have seen a guy that’s firmly entrenched in his job and has no plans to leave any time soon. I mean, when asked if Bajakian was the…[Read more]

Pedro, I’m not sure if your reply was directed at me but, if it was, it’s most definitely the wrong tack. Whitt doesn’t get paid millions of dollars because he’s an outstanding football coach, he gets paid that kind of money because people pay to watch his product.
And you’re right, it’s entertainment and the first two rules of business and…[Read more]

He hates dealing with fans. If he could, he would never do press conferences or give us any information.
For the life of me, I’ll never understand why so many sports coaches have this attitude. I mean, it’s fans, and the billions of dollars that they spend on a yearly basis, who provide coaches (and athletes) their millionaire lifestyle. If it…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Head Coach Kyle Whittingham Utah Football Press Conference – 10.21.24 in the forum Football 1 month ago
I did some research and Whitt’s latest extension, which happened in 2022, has a lot of quirks. For example, it includes promises of free tuition for his grandchildren, a $1 million lump sum retirement payment, and a 5-year, $995,000 per year contract to serve as special assistant to the AD when he hangs up his whistle.

As of today, Utah has the 20th ranked defense in the FBS. They’re just behind Georgia and just in front of Miami.

NIL money, NIL money, NIL money, followed by playing time…those are the only things that really matter nowadays.

Head Coach Kyle Whittingham Utah Football Press Conference – 10.21.24
Sure doesn’t sound like a guy prepping to retire at the end of the season. As I said before many times, it’s hard to walk away from a guaranteed $20M+. If I were a betting man, I’d bet that Whitt sees out the remaining portion of his contract and don’t even begin to discount…[Read more]

The ESPN story talking about his appointment says the same thing.

LOL…I wish that Utah was the laughingstock of the Big 10…being the laughingstock of the Big XII is something completely different.

You forgot to add that Winston also led the NFL in interceptions that year. I think that it was close to 30 or something like that.

He actually made $1.85M but what’s a measly extra $50K?

Mike Bajakian – Offensive Coordinator
Last sentence, second paragraph.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic You Know…. in the forum Football 1 month ago
In nine seasons as a college offensive coordinator, Bajakian’s offenses averaged 424 yards and 31.3 points/game and ranked in the Top-40 nationally in total offense seven times. NW was his last gig, but he was also the OC at Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Tennessee, and Boston College.

Yeah, but if you resign your contract is rendered null and void. By resigning, Ludwig, at 61+, would be walking away from close to ~$5.5M. That’s a tough ask.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic You Know…. in the forum Football 1 month ago
You never know. Maybe this will be the shock treatment that was required to resuscitate the cadaver known as Utah football.

It’s only conjecture on my part, but what I imagine happened is that Whitt told Lud that he was demoting him and Lud told him the old Johnny Paycheck song. It’ll be interesting to see if Lud gets his buyout since, by resigning, he shouldn’t get anything.

I’m going to lose my shit if now, all of sudden, Utah starts averaging 30+ plus points a game and rips off a five-game winning streak to close out the season.

That’ll never happen here. Football, and sports in general, just aren’t as important in Utah as they are in Oklahoma.
