The Miami Ute replied to the topic That feeling when… in the forum Football 1 month, 1 week ago
You know, I hope I’m wrong about this, but as I was driving home from last Saturday night’s game, the feeling that I had was that Utah got found out. Once again we were in the Top 10 and once again we were playing in front of a national audience and once again we crapped the bed. This is just me, and I could obviously be completely wrong, but I…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Whittingham and Cam – ENOUGH ALREADY in the forum Football 1 month, 1 week ago
There’s a lot of historical revisionism going on here with this issue. Whitt played mind games all of last season having Cam take up 1st team reps and calling his participation a game-time decision until November rolled around. I know I will be downvoted for this, but I’ve never seen a QB room as badly managed in 50 years of being a football fan…[Read more]

Oklahoma State might end up being one of the worst teams in the Big XII this season, kinda/sorta like Baylor last year, which was predicted to contend for the conference title and stepped into an elevator shaft. The Mountaineers are curb stomping the Cowboys in Stillwater as we speak, up 31-7 at halftime.

So I guess Utah is shit out of luck winning anything once Rising leaves? That’s flawed logic for the simple reason that the past doesn’t always predict the future. In addition, this version of Rising is not the same version that won those two CCGs.

I’ve said this a few times already. Given the current circumstances, Utah’s best move after the 2023 Rose Bowl would have been to part company with Rising. That’s hindsight but, if I was Whitt and I knew the full extent of his injury, and I can’t imagine he didn’t, that’s exactly what I would have done. Doing so would have opened the QB1 spot…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic I'm settled and ready to move forward with optimism for an awesome season in the forum Football 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Last season, all I hoped for was a victory over USC and the team obliged me. Unfortunately, they then proceeded to go 3-4 after that game. Be careful what you ask for…

I wouldn’t take ASU lightly, with or without the presence of Rising. Dillingham, who is an offensive savant, has them trending in the right direction and, as much as I hate to say it, I’d favor them over Utah if Rising can’t go. The Sun Devils are starting to remind me of how they played in Todd Graham’s best years and we all remember how much…[Read more]

Sometimes I pine for the old MWC days. A lot of the innocence and enjoyment is lost when you’re in the college big leagues.

If I was a betting man, I’d bet that Zona blitz on the vast majority of passing downs. I mentioned that on a previous post. Until Wilson proves that he can hurt teams when they do that, you can bet that every single opponent will take Zona’s defensive blueprint and build on it.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Disturbing Trend for The '26 Recruiting Class in the forum Football 1 month, 2 weeks ago
The only reasons why I could think that a great local kid would want to stay at home are:
1. He wants to stay close to home. Not everyone wants to be away from their family when they turn 18.
2. Guaranteed playing time and a path to the NFL. Utah has put enough guys at the top level for that to be a legitimate selling point.
3. The Big XII is…[Read more] -

If he goes to Mater Dei, he’ll go to Oregon or USC guaranteed.

Rick, I say that those schools have higher ceilings for several reasons. One, they all have a longer history of football success (i.e. national brand) than Utah. Two, they’re all as big (or bigger) and deep-pocketed in the student body and alumni base. Lastly, they’re all located in locations that have larger population bases and access to…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Cam Rising seen in Splint yesterday signing autographs in the forum Football 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Honestly, and it pains me to say it, I’ll be happy when Cam Rising is no longer wearing a Utah uniform. I’ve been following football for 50 years and in all of that time I’ve never been exposed to a situation as surreal as how Utah manages its QB room.

The only team that can realistically beat us is TCU
Are you for real or just trolling? Did you or did you not see Arizona completely own the Utes last Saturday night at the RES? No disrespect, but your comment is an example of the type of arrogance that a certain subset of the fanbase displays. As far as I’m concerned, any opponent can beat…[Read more]

That’s the weird thing. From what I’ve read, he’s been medically cleared to play since before the OK ST game. So, he can play but hasn’t because he’s not able to get any zip on the ball.

And Utah’s problem is that it’s not the most attractive program in the Big XII. I would submit that schools like Texas Tech, Arizona, ASU, and Colorado have higher ceilings if run competently.

So, all of this speculation means that Wilson will be QB1 for the foreseeable future. If that’s the case, we might be 4-4 by the time we play BYU and pissed away another season because of a failure to manage the QB room in an adequate manner.

From the Athletic:
This is the hardest team to project in all of college football. Quarterback Cameron Rising has been awesome for Utah throughout his career when healthy, but injuries have capped the potential of what this team can achieve. He missed all of 2023 recovering from a knee injury suffered in the previous season’s Rose Bowl, and t…
