The Miami Ute

I’m taking it that Bajikian is the new OC there? Still, strange, strange move for a kid for California. I’m guessing Beck wasn’t opposed to having him for his veteran leadership but Rose probably read the leaves and figured that the new offense wouldn’t fit his skill set?

Isn’t UMASS one of the worst teams in the FBS?

Rick, thanks for the analysis and insights. Any sports fan could have put two and two together when that hire was consummated so quickly. Too bad about Randy Bennett because that guy’s been a winner at Saint Mary’s forever. He was actually near the top of my list as far as candidates go, with number 1 being the impossible dream of Mark Few

Yeah, me too. I have season tickets and have been to every home game this season. Unfortunately, I see no other way ahead than firing Smith and starting from scratch. Smith’s current tenure is very reminiscent of Krystkowiak’s last couple of seasons though I will say that those teams were much better in terms of actual players. I mean, Coach…[Read more]

I’m not sure I follow your logic. Larry Krystowiak was fired on 16 March 2021, almost immediately after the Utes were eliminated from the PAC tournament by USC on 11 March 2021 and well, well before most teams in need of a HC had even started a search for a replacement. At the time of his dismissal, Krystkowiak was the highest paid coach in the…[Read more]

The Huntsman is fine. The place was like a volcano when BYU showed up last season. The problem is the program’s mediocrity over an extended period of time. I can guarantee you that if we had teams of the same quality as when Majerus was in town, then the arena would be full almost every night. At this stage in American society, you can’t…[Read more]

  • I thought it was for the quality of food that you got. It surely wasn’t much more, if that, than going out to dinner with the wife.

  • Well, I went to a football event last year and I liked it. Whitt is obviously a better speaker than Smith and the catered food was pretty good.

  • Eagle, let me know when you want to go to a game and I’ll give you a ticket so that you can watch up close and personal.

  • With Larry K, for as much as the program was a dysfunctional dumpster fire by the time he got canned, you at least got better athletes.

  • I definitely don’t think NIL, or the lack thereof, is the biggest problem. I mean FFS, Utah State routinely puts better teams on the floor with less resources. Utah just has not gotten it right in the HC department since Majerus retired.

  • There is no silver lining. What we’ve seen in the first three games of conference play is going to the same script that will be repeated game after game until the season’s over. The Utes are fatally flawed as a team and, once each game settle downs and the opponent adjusts, Utah really has no answer.

  • Oh, it’s not only that…Utah State has gone through multiple coaches, because they keep getting hired away, and starts with an all new roster, it seems like, every season. I have to give them full props for doing so much more with so much less than Utah.

  • You know…the MBB has all of the hallmarks of a mediocre team.

Game starts and they’re decent for a while. Then the other team adjusts to what Utah is doing and Utah either lacks the personnel or coaching know-how to be able to stay in the game. And thus, by the end of the game, what you have is another blowout loss.

    I don’t think that…[Read more]

  • The Miami Ute replied to the topic Sam Huard… in the forum Football 3 weeks, 1 day ago

I think that you might be on to something there. At this point, I don’t know if he’s even already graduated but it might make sense to start out as a GA under his uncle’s tutelage.

  • The Miami Ute replied to the topic Sam Huard… in the forum Football 3 weeks, 1 day ago

That’s right…Luke Huard…not sure what the attraction is though, because there’s no way he’s displacing Jayden Maiava. If he wanted to get reps, it’s not happening at SC. Miller Moss, who looked so good earlier in the season had to transfer to Louisville to guarantee himself playing time.

  • Hill>Harlan…but Hill’s also the guy that gave Coach K the extension that made him unfireable for a number of years.

In terms of sheer talent. Coach K’s last team was definitely streets ahead of the current version of the Utes. That being said, it’s not all about talent because that team also lost multiple games to less talented squads.

  • That’s what it’s looked like since they started the conference schedule. You surely can’t do any worse.

  • Honestly, all of the above. I thought that the team would struggle playing the conference schedule but I didn’t think that they would be outright so uncompetitive. There were times last night when I thought I was watching a high school team playing a college team. And boy, does it get rough from here. Next up is #3 Iowa State, who just…[Read more]
