The interesting thing is that Mayer is five years younger than Whitt. So, you have to imagine that he still has gas left in the tank. Hypothetically speaking, let’s say that Utah wins the Big XII next season, makes the CFP, and makes a good showing there. At that point, Whitt decides to call it a day requiring Utah to get a new HC. Personally,…[Read more]

I hear you Jim. But this Exacte move is totally counterintuitive. He’s going to get way less exposure at a less prestigious academic institution. The only things that are plusses are that he probably walks into a starting position and is much closer to home.

This
Wilguens Jr. Exacte, G — transferred to Bowling Green
blew my fucking mind. Who’s advising this young man? You’re leaving Utah and the Big XII to play for a team that hasn’t made the NCAAs since Richard Nixon was two months into his first term as president?

I think the only thing off with your theory is that the SEC probably believes that they can continue to march with their current constituents and nothing will change. They probably believe that they have such an overwhelming advantage in football related matters that actually adding more programs to the conference dilutes the product.

The 2019 season is, for me, the most disappointing. We somehow lost to an USC team playing its 3rd string QB and whose offense was relegated to throwing jump balls to Michael Pittman. That, however, was topped by losing to an Oregon team in the CCG that had absolutely nothing to play for. They win, they go to the Rose Bowl. They lose, they go…[Read more]

Funny you should mention Osobor… I’m going to be really interested in seeing how he collects his NIL seeing how he’s a foreigner in the US on a student visa. Essentially, if I read the laws governing this issue correctly, about the only way to really get NIL in a legal manner in a foreigner’s pocket is for all the NIL activity to take place in…[Read more]

The Atlantic just did a story on this very same issue. According to them, there isn’t a single player in this draft that can be classified as elite or someone you can build around. They’re all role or rotation players.

You’re right in all effects. The only thing I would say is that if Smith has a season similar to this past one or 22-23, he’ll definitely be back for a fifth year. If the Utes are still struggling by the end of his fifth season, then it becomes a lot easier to eat the rest of his contract. My caveat to all this is if the Utes have a horrible…[Read more]

That’s true, but it’s unharnessed athleticism. If he was as good as his potential indicates, he’d be getting twice the minutes and you wouldn’t be able to keep him out of the starting lineup.

Are you for real? No disrespect, but you’re talking about a guy that only played 16 MPG and only averaged 8 PPG/ 5 RPG. As I said in my previous posting, sure, you’d love to keep Keba as a rotation player but this isn’t a guy that comes close to the impact of a Devion Smith or a Branden Carlson. His stats are not even as good as Madsen, who…[Read more]

He’s supremely talented???? Ah no, he’s got elite physical attributes but, in my opinion, a low basket ball IQ. And this is something that I’ve been saying since he joined our program. Sure, he can jump out the gym but he can’t handle the ball well at all and has no outside shot, making him pretty one dimensional. I would love to have kept him…[Read more]

I’m still trying to figure out where Saint John’s got the money to attract Smith. For example, it’s a much smaller school than Utah and its endowment is 2/3 of what Utah has. Maybe money wasn’t the deciding factor and what really weighed heavily was the possibllity of playing for a HoF coach that’s put a ton of guys into the NBA?

If money was no object, then what you propose is eminently doable. Unfortunately, without probably some sort of government involvement, greed always wins out. The legacy B1G and SEC universities will always take a line of “why should we share our good fortune with others?”
