Immaturity and bad luck, a lethal combination…the fact that you’re a great football player just means that you’re a great football player.

I don’t share similar sentiments about Scalley for a few reasons. One, he’s a hometown guy and this is his dream job. There’s also no doubt in my mind that, if he wanted to, he could have left many years ago for greener pastures. Because he’s an alumnus AND a hometown guy AND has been passing up jobs out of loyalty and commitment to the school,…[Read more]

I formally predict on this website that Michigan will soon return to being the dumpster fire it was before Jim Harbaugh was hired. They made the same mistake that Washington made when Chris Petersen retired…hiring an assistant with zero HC experience to manage a Top 15 college football program.

Oh, so now there’s “good capitalism” and “bad capitalism”? I’m glad you were able to explain youself seeing as your original comment just mentioned capitalism writ-large. You know, the economic system that the entire developed world follows. Maybe you should elaborate better in your comments to pre-empt misunderstandings. Don’t be a a…[Read more]

This is such a dumb take, inserting a political comment into a subject that has absolutely zero to do with the economic well-being of anyone on this site. In case you don’t get it, all sports are in entertainment, not the bellwether of industrial development in this or any country. And if you have an issue with capitalism, feel free to hop on an…[Read more]

I’ve been a Panthers’ fan since they were playing at the old Miami Arena near Brickell and follow their games religiously on TV. I have to think that the Cats will win and the biggest reason in because they’re playing at home. Yes, the Oil won Game 5 at Sunrise but they were thoroughly outplayed and even the most diehard Oil loyalist will tell…[Read more]

Oregon is what I like to call an “artificial power.” Do you follow European soccer? Well, Oregon is the equivalent of teams like Manchester City and Paris Saint Germain, who were essentially nobodies until they were bought by Abu Dhabi and Qatar respectively and started receiving massive infusions of cash that had nothing in relation with how…[Read more]

I’m not as confident as you are that Utah will be included in a so-called “Super League.” For one thing, RES and its lack of capacity is a liability. As it stands, it’s only bigger, and not by much, than five B1G stadiums, all of those belonging to teams in the lower rungs of the conference. For example, Iowa, a team that a lot of people…[Read more]

Not being a devil’s advocate but I liked his comments about the future state of college football. As a Miami, Florida native (but Utah grad) I must say that, while I dislike BYU, they’re not really on my radar. I basically shun them until we have to play them. Utah and BYU no longer occupy the same physical space in the college football…[Read more]

Well, I’m not certain that Smith is going to be canned after this season. I’ve been on record many times on this site saying that the only way that happens is if the team craters. If the team has a mediocre season, say something like Smith’s second season at the helm, there’s no way that he gets canned because Utah would then have to eat the…[Read more]

The guy he’s replacing, Tramel Barnes, left Utah to take a similar position in South Dakota State. Why would anyone leave a high profile program to go to the hinterlands?

I wholeheartedly agree with that analysis. College football is regional…it is not the NFL. Anyone that thinks that a large subsection of fans will watch Ohio State or Alabama when they have zero ties to either of those institutions, and those like them, doesn’t really know fandom.

Without the fans and their interest, there are no players. None of these guys are getting millions in NIL deals because they’re great football players. They’re getting the money because large numbers of people pay large amounts of money to watch them play. You say the games belong to the players? Fine, let them play in front of empty stands…[Read more]

You ever hear the phrase “he who pays the piper calls the tune?”. The players are just entertainers and need to do things to appeal to their fan base not the other way around.

I’ll second that and also add that the PAC was a way more attractive conference to play in. In the old PAC you could make the case for the presence of two legitimate, and possibly a third, blue blood football powers without even considering Utah. And I’m not even going to touch upon the educational differences between the old PAC and the current Big XII.
