Any policy that doesn’t explicitly allow the best qualified person to get a specific job is flawed.

That one too…but I will say, that was a pretty damned good TCU team with Andy Dalton as the QB. They were actually ranked higher than Utah going into the game (#3 compared to #5 for Utah). But yeah, that game and the Boise State game in 2006 and the Oregon game last year are the biggest ass whoopings I’ve seen Utah receive at RES.

Whenever the hype starts getting to me, all I have to do is think about the 2019 PAC 12 CCG. All Utah had to do is beat an Oregon team that had nothing to play for to make the CFP. We all remember how that went but I had front row seats to it.

I don’t hate hype, I just don’t trust it. I’ve been watching football pretty regularly for over 50 years and, if I had a dollar for every team that I’ve seen come into a season with hype and then proceed to shit the bed, I’d be having cocktails with Ryan Smith. I much prefer to take the season one game at a time and give each opposing team the…[Read more]

They look at the dismantling of the U’s diversity offices and say, “why should I go somewhere like that.”
This garbage again? Holy smokes, why don’t people do some resarch on this issue? I thought that I had debunked dismantling of DEI as an impediment when I showed some dude that A. Dismantling DEI surely hasn’t hurt recruiting efforts for u…[Read more]

I guess they take their basketball seriously at St. John’s…I’d be interested to see what kind of NIL package he received because it’s not like the Johnnies are Notre Dame plus you have to negotiate NYC on a daily basis.

Karma got Hayward. He was really never the same player after he left the Jazz. Constant injuries, inconsistent performances, you have to wonder if he would do it differently if he had the chance.

I guess we can join the club. There’s only about 130 other teams that use the Eagle nickname.

Draft picks and getting rid of onerous contracts.

That’s exactly right. Utah was always going to find a life raft after the PAC imploded. The problem is that the raft they found was basically the floor of offers.

I went to grad school at Utah plus my wife (Skyline High grad) and her entire extended family lives in the area. When I retired, we decided to make SLC home. Honestly, I’m much more of an Utah fan now due to proximity to the different programs.

When I was a student at the University of Miami (I was almost 23 when I started college), the Hurricanes played for three NCs and won two of those. You can just imagine the atmosphere around campus. I even ran into, true story, Duane Johnson/The Rock at a couple of parties. Incredible time and place to be a young person,

I guess his point is that every season there’s only one winner and everyone else is playing for second place.

Well, I’ve been alive to see them go to three Super Bowls in a row, win two of those and also have the NFL’s only perfect season. Nobody can ever take that away from me.

I didn’t get that…did you mean that you think of a salmon when you hear the word Chinook?

Yeah, I guess I’m also of a certain age. To me “Yeti” will always be associated with the term “Abominable Snowman” and the Himalayas. Yeti coolers are a product of the last decade and still don’t register with me.

Blizzard with a Moose or Elk mascot/logo would work for me. The problem for a lot of people is the name’s closeness to Avalanche.

Enter the Kraken, Ducks, and Devils…plus what exactly is a “Blue Jacket”? And then you have the Canucks, which can be interpreted as a derogatory term as it’s essentially a northern version of “gringo”. I think Yetis will do just fine…but that’s just my opinion.

Really? It’s most well known for the CH-47 Chinook helicopter but it’s actually a prevailing warm, generally westerly wind in western North America.

Yes, that ruling took place on 23 April. However, that’s doesn’t apply to people who are working under a legally binding contract like professional athletes.
