If you’re going to go with a mountain weather theme, the one I like is Utah Chinook.

If you’re going to use a trout as your mascot, they should use the name Utah Cutthroats. It makes sense since the Utah State Fish is the cutthroat trout.

And just think…Vegas was originally supposed to be the “Black Knights” but that’s also the official nickname of all of the sports teams at West Point (Vegas’ owner is a West Point grad) and they took offense at a pro franchise co-opting their name. So, instead, we got the “Golden Knights” which is also the nickname of the Army Parachute team.…[Read more]

What’s your point? They’ve had four straight winning seasons and have been in the playoffs the last two years. You say that they aren’t feared? I don’t think there’s a team in the NFL that’s as feared from a passing attack standpoint. If it wasn’t for a massive wave of injuries on both sides of the ball towards the end of last season, they…[Read more]

Hey now, at least the Browns have made the playoffs pretty regularly over the last few years. I was thinking more like Arizona Cardinals like incompetence.

Which one do you like? Maybe Tony should start a poll. I must admit that I didn’t think much of Venom as a name but man, that’s a cool jersey.

There are guys out there who would be disruptive hires. I just don’t think that Harlan is the guy to get them. I think we all saw that when he hit the easy button and just went an hour up the road to hire Smith.

Not going to tell you how to feel but saying that this is the lowest the program has been in the last 20 years, I think, is recency bias. Personally, as a Utah fan, the lowest I’ve ever felt was during Giacolett’s and Boylen’s last years. Those teams really, really stunk.
Who knows…the way everyone is thinking that next season is going to be…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Time for players to be contractually paid employees?? in the forum Football 6 months, 4 weeks ago
Since the NFl is at the apex of this pyramid, whatever configuration is finally decided upon should probably look like its contractual mechanism. Again, I have no problem with players moving at will but there needs to be some protection in place for the schools that discovered them and provided the stage for them to shine.

The earliest Smith will get fired is at the end of next season. And that’s only if the Utes crap the bed during their inaugural Big XII season. If they have a season similar to this past one, Smith will continue to run the show on the Hill. Personally, again unless the Utes implode spectacularly next season, I don’t think Harlan cans Smith…[Read more]

Yeah, the way things are now, if BYU was a generic, non-denominational private school (like a Miami or USC), there’s no way that Utah would be able to compete with them and Smith’s financial doping. They kind of screw themselves by having all students have to abide by the Church Educational System Honor Code instead of being a typical university.

Yeah, but we’ve got Cam Rising, Brant Kuithe, Dorian Singer, etc..Malzahn is OK as a head coach. He had a great first season with Auburn but then averaged fives losses a season for his next seven years. He inherited a pretty good UCF program from Josh Heupel but has had 16 losses in his three seasons in Orlando. Yeah, they had a decent…[Read more]

Well, there’s a case to be made that he should have come out this year because you never know what the future brings. That being said, if he has a stellar season next year, he definitely has a great chance to be a Day 1 pick.

LOL…I’m not even originally from Utah but know all about Zelmo Beatty and the games he had versus the Miami Floridians. If you ask me, the Jazz should have switched to that name when they moved from New Orleans.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Vaki to Lions in the forum Football 7 months ago
I don’t know fellas…if I was Vaki, I’d be more in, for a career, as a Safety. The RB position in the NFL has been completely devalued over the last two decades. RBs are eminently disposable, don’t get nowhere near the money as other value positions, and tend to have a very short life span in the NFL. As a Safety, Vaki could play into his 30s…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Chris Curry to TP in the forum Football 7 months ago
Well, it obviously means that Curry thought that he wasn’t going too many reps. That’s probably a good thing for the Utes though you’d obviously like to keep him for his experience.

Honestly, I’m to the point that if you can’t come in and contribute immediately, then I don’t really care if you come to Utah or not. The days of being able to stockpile recruits are over for all schools. This guy could be the second coming of Randy Moss but if he isn’t getting paid and getting a lot of reps out of the gate, then more than…[Read more]
