Yeah, but Sprinkle put that team together by himself. They said in the broadcast that when he signed on at Utah, the entire roster was gone. It just goes to show that if you have a guy that knows what he’s doing, it doesn’t take hslf a decade to make the tournament.

The last few seasons that Krystkowiak was here, he was getting paid over $3.5M a season and was in the Top 8 of highest paid coaches in the nation. That kind of money can buy you a proven winner and by proven winner I’m talking about a guy that has a long track record and has taken his teams on Deep NCAA runs. Smith has neither of those…[Read more]

No offense but you want a guy who’s never been a head coach at the collegiate level or has any sort of local ties? I’d rather hire a proven winner and there many out there that are getting paid much less than what Utah can afford.

The Aggies are taking It to TCU. Shocking that they’re doing this with a team composed of all new players. I guess good coaching counts for a lot.

I’d read that Pittman was doing well but that Singer was very much WR 1.

Sanford was robbed. Really bad call by the refs on a non-existent foul at the end of the game when they were down by just one point.

Here’s a good article by Jon Wilner specifically focusing on Smith: Smith in Trouble
As many here have said, the Utes have to make the Dance next year or Smith is likely gone.

Can you post the link to that article by Furlong? Thanks.

That’s true but, if we play VCU, Utah should be favored. One, we’d be playing them at home where, except for a couple of hiccups, we’re undefeated against all comers. Two, doubtful that anyone on VCU’s roster has ever played at altitude.

That’s interesting. The email that I received looked like a “cut and paste” job from the first game, to include the same prices for tickets.

Yeah, and if it wasn’t for lousy free throw shooting in those two games, among others, we would have been undefeated at home and dancing.

Thanks for the heads-up. I just picked up a ticket for the game. Funnily enough, I was only charged $10 for the same seat that I paid $20 to see the Utes yesterday. I’m wondering if that was s glitch or a discount for being a repeat customer.

That means that the road is clear for Utah to continue to host NIT games until the semifinals. Based on that, and how Utah has played at home all season, I’d say that they have a better than even chance for a deep run in the NIT.

Personally, I think that nothing but good can come out of a situation where you’re receiving positive exposure. I mean, and this is just in my mind, I think that the Utes are helped more by winning the NIT than say losing a 1st RD tournament game that the vast majority of America probably didn’t watch.

Is that the bracket? If both VCU and Utah win, then Utah will host another game?

The NIT used to be “the” tournament just like, at one time, baseball and boxing used to be the most popular sports in the USA. Since you broached the subject of “fun facts”, did you know that one team that used to be a basketball powerhouse once won the NIT and NCAA tournament in the same season? CCNY in 1950.

I don’t know Charlie. I only pay $35 for each of my season tickets and I easily spend that much in concessions every meet I take my daughter to.

What about concessions? I always thought that the Red Rocks where like a gas station. Essentially that the product was what brings people in but the money was made through the sale of concessions.

I have to disagree. I’ve been a season ticket holder for three seasons and, when it’s time to renew, there are few tickets available for purchase and all of those are in the upper bowl. I’ve also gone to the vast majority of their meets for the last four seasons and, if the Huntsman isn’t packed, it’s certainly mostly full. Suffice it to say…[Read more]
