The state of Utah or the University of Utah? I’d say Tom Chambers to both. He was born in Ogden though he grew up in Colorado.

Not sure how much longer Larry K would have stayed in Utah. He made a mint during his time there and hasn’t worked a day since getting fired. I read a story recently on him and how much he’s enjoying retirement.

You’re probably right. Currently, the Big 12 has five teams ranked in the Top 20 and nine teams at 19 victories plus. Two of those teams with 19 victories plus are Texas and Oklahoma but you can easily replace them with Arizona and Colorado. To me, this program is in a cul-de-sac with no easy way out.

That’s because they have a dumb ass as the GM in Chris Grier. I don’t know how such a resoundingly mediocre individual has been able to retain his job for so long. He must have some really incriminating stuff on Steve Ross.

Just going to the Big 12 should give any Ute fan pause. It would be akin to the football Utes joining the SEC. How many games do you think that the football Utes would win in their first few seasons in the SEC? The Runnin’ Utes are going from a conference that’s only going to have three tournament teams to one that has a possible 10 tournament…[Read more]

You can’t call it “bad luck” when it happens every single time you play away. That to me screams systemic issue that can probably only be resolved with a change in management.

I mean, the biggest problem is that a significant number of us already know exactly how this story ends. Losing Carlson, Bajema, and, likely, one or two more key contributors while entering the strongest basketball conference in the nation doesn’t paint a rosy picture for next season. That’s going to translate into a regression to fan apathy and…[Read more]

Losing to the worst team in the conference, a team that had absolutely nothing to play for in a half empty arena, tells you everything you need to know about the state of mind of this team. Time to turn the page and give someone else a shot.

Oh, I agree, but Harlan strikes me as a guy that loves hitting the “Easy Button.” It’s much easier to keep Smith on and say “oh well” after the wheels come off.

If that happens, the Utes are toast in the Big 12. Those guys leaving are essentially 90+ percent of every major offensive category this season. I certainly hope Smith can find lightning in the bottle in the portal.

As I and many others have said for a large part of this season, Smith needs to go. We have more than enough of a sample size to know that he’s not the answer. It’s nothing against him as a person, he just hasn’t delivered the results we were expecting when he was hired. That being said, I’m absolutely certain that Harlan will not fire him at…[Read more]

LOL…he led them to the Elite 8 in 20-21, you know, the Covid season. The next year, the Beavers went 3-28/1-19. The year after that, they went 11-21/5-15. This year, they’re 12-17/4-14. The guy’s not a good head coach. Even the year they went to the Elite Eight, they were pretty mediocre, going 10-10 in conference and 20-13 overall.

If money was no object, then you have to can him. How can you possibly defend a coach whose team gets blown out routinely every conference away game they play? And folks, this is playing in a mediocre to bad basketball conference, a conference that, right now, only has two locks (maybe three now with Colorado) to make the tournament. What do…[Read more]

Is there a category below “Low”? I’d say that the chances of him getting canned are non-existent. He still has three more years on his current contract and his buy-out would be over $5.5M. Now, say Utah goes full Ray Giacoletti next year in the Big 12, say 8-23 or something like that, and they’d have to pull the plug on him. otherwise every…[Read more]

It starts at the top…it’s obvious that Smith is not doing something correctly. How can a supposedly good team look so bad against horrible teams on the road? And this is against a Wayne Tinkle-led Oregon State. The only reason Tinkle still has a job is because the Beavers don’t have the cash to buy him out, otherwise he would have been canned…[Read more]

This team has some major psychological issues that only a new head coach will be able to resolve. It doesn’t matter who they’re playing on the road, the Utes somehow make them all look like the Lebron James Miami Heat.

That’s generational wealth money. Hopefully he doesn’t end up like the majority of former NFL players.

Utah is 4-22 versus Oregon in MBB. Just maddening to play them. Even when they were mediocre and we had good teams, they still found ways to beat us.

Are you really saying that the QB situation wasn’t mismanaged last year? I love Whitt but he’s certainly not infallible. No head coach is.
