The Miami Ute replied to the topic Utah is next — NAACP backlash from anti DEI legislation in the forum Football 8 months, 3 weeks ago
I kind of doubt it. It’s one thing to get on a pulpit in states that have historically large populations of people of African descent and quite another to do so in a state that doesn’t. I mean, I don’t really understand what point you’re making. Is it that the NAACP is going to go after Utah because only two percent of its population identifies…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Utah is next — NAACP backlash from anti DEI legislation in the forum Football 8 months, 3 weeks ago
This is never going to work. The NAACP (and by the way, isn’t the use of the word “Colored” racist in today’s terms?) is a vestige of the past and, like a lot of organizations of its ilk, is desperately trying to maintain its relevance in an increasingly diverse, multi-racial and multi-cultural society where everything isn’t black or white.…[Read more]

Here’s the problem… you’re only down by one point and you settle for a long 3PT shot by a bad 3PT shooter? I get your logic but it didn’t play out like Utah imagined. Normally, what Utah did on the last play only happens if a team is all out of TOs. Why? Because in a situation like that you have want to give yourself a chance to win by drawing…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Next basketball Head Coach – wish list in the forum Basketball (Men) 8 months, 3 weeks ago
Well, for me it would have to be a guy with a proven track record in a major program. The coach that I’ve hoped Utah would go after for more than a decade is Mark Few at Gonzaga. People might laugh when they hear this, but he actually gets paid less money than Smith does at Utah. The problem is that he’s real comfortable in Spokane and unlikely…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic I think it might be time to admit what we all fear… in the forum Basketball (Men) 8 months, 3 weeks ago
Totally agree Eagle. Not sure how much more of a sample size we need to determine that Smith is not the answer. There’s no excuse for not making the tournament this season. Other than Worster, the team had been basically injury free and playing in a mediocre to bad basketball conference. If not now, when?

Not buying that SLC is not a good basketball destination but a place like Pullman or Provo or Logan are. It all comes down to having the right guy calling the shots and, unfortunately, Utah has failed in finding that guy ever since Majerus skipped town. I like Smith as a person and as a communicator but there are things that really, really…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic What happen to Brenden Carlson? in the forum Basketball (Men) 8 months, 3 weeks ago
All I have to say is that Utah’s in-game coaching is nothing short of pathetic. You get a rebound with a timeout and 9 seconds left and the best you can do is a long three pointer by a bad 3PT shooter? Utah is never going to do anything or go anywhere with Smith at the helm. The guy’s just lost the plot.

WTF over? You get a rebound with 9 seconds and one time out left and the best you can do is Ben Carlson with a long 3 pointer at the buzzer? I say again WTF over? Why not call your TO and play for the last shot? Just another example of the absolute tomfoolery that passes for coaching at Utah basketball.

You’re not wrong. If the Utes can get blown out playing bad teams away what can possibly happen playing a decent team that owns a 4-22 lifetime record over you?

Brewer is the second leading passer in Baylor history and was a hell of a player with the Bears. He should have just called it a day after Aranda tan him off.

I kind of figured it had to be something like that. Our three male competitors in the CC actually did pretty well, so I was trying to figure out what happened to lose such a huge lead.

The losses to bad ASU, USC, and OSU teams really killed their chances.

You sure it wasn’t the MBB skiing today? Cannot believe that Utah blew a 51 point lead on the last event.

Yeah, sorry brother, but you if you think that this season was a positive step forward then you haven’t been paying attention all season. As Nashville mentions, the team regressed as the season went along and hasn’t really been competitive away from the Huntsman during conference play. It’s a real disappointing end to a season which started with…[Read more]

The state of Utah or the University of Utah? I’d say Tom Chambers to both. He was born in Ogden though he grew up in Colorado.

Not sure how much longer Larry K would have stayed in Utah. He made a mint during his time there and hasn’t worked a day since getting fired. I read a story recently on him and how much he’s enjoying retirement.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Runnin Ute Player Inventory in the forum Basketball (Men) 8 months, 3 weeks ago
You’re probably right. Currently, the Big 12 has five teams ranked in the Top 20 and nine teams at 19 victories plus. Two of those teams with 19 victories plus are Texas and Oklahoma but you can easily replace them with Arizona and Colorado. To me, this program is in a cul-de-sac with no easy way out.

That’s because they have a dumb ass as the GM in Chris Grier. I don’t know how such a resoundingly mediocre individual has been able to retain his job for so long. He must have some really incriminating stuff on Steve Ross.

Just going to the Big 12 should give any Ute fan pause. It would be akin to the football Utes joining the SEC. How many games do you think that the football Utes would win in their first few seasons in the SEC? The Runnin’ Utes are going from a conference that’s only going to have three tournament teams to one that has a possible 10 tournament…[Read more]
