That’s true but remember that Kuzma was drafted in the 1st RD. So, the Lakers obviously saw something in him.

Not to disagree with you, but, in my opinion, the only thing that Carlson has in common with Holmgren is similarity of body type. If their skill sets/abilities were remotely similar, Carlson would have left for the NBA years ago. This updated profile for the 2024 NBA draft has him as #91, which obviously means he would have to stick with some…[Read more]

I’d never expect Madsen to be a starter in the NBA or even be expected to play much defense. I envision him as a guy like Vinnie Johnson from the Pistons (remember him? Had the coolest nickname: The Human Microwave) who could provide instant offense from the bench.

He’s got to develop an outside shot or he’s got zero chance at an NBA career. The way the game is played now, he’d be an offensive liability whenever he stepped on the floor. Teams would just ignore him and dare him to shoot while concentrating on better shooters.

Yeah, we talked about Keita and Carlson on the other post. Keita has to do a lot of work to get NBA ready. He might have the physique but he doesn’t handle the ball well and has no outside shot. Once upon a time, there was a role in the NBA for a guy who could just rebound or play defense. That’s no longer the case. Now, it’s all about…[Read more]

Since a few posters have submitted comments regarding current Utah MBB players, I thought I’d post one of my own. So, which current Ute do you think has the best chance to play in the NBA? After sitting down and doing some analysis, I personally think Gabe Madsen probably has the best chance of sticking with an NBA team. Why do I think that?…[Read more]

Keita has to really polish his game and develop a consistent outside shot to just get into the draft conversation. Even a guy like Carlson, who’s 7′, can handle the ball well, and can shoot the ball from the outside isn’t considered a draftable NBA prospect. Last I checked, he was rated something like the 230th prospect for the 2024 draft. The…[Read more]

Totally agree… he’s probably better at off going to some high profile FCS program like Montana or South Dakota State…you know, places where the atmosphere is much more slow paced and there’s less potential for malfeasance. If he produces there and stays out of trouble, the NFL will still find him.

Exactly…I thought the same thing and said so once I read that Bridges had been denied. I think that the administration took a long look at Bridges’ situation and decided that the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze. It might have been different if Bridges had committed what’s colloquially known as a “victimless crime” like shoplifting but he…[Read more]

In all honesty, for pure physical talent, Smith is up there with Keita as the best player on the team. Hopefully, Smith decides to come back next year during his fifth Covid season.

I would have brought every single recruit to the Utah vs BYU game. That crowd was off the charts. By the way, the crowd last night eventually got to a decent size…I’d say in the neighborhood of 6-7K…much better than what it was just before tip off when I could almost count the number of people in the stands.

He can throw it down like nobody’s business. At times, he reminds me of Darryl Dawkins with his dunks. Mark my words, one of these days he’s going to bring one of those backboards crashing down.

Sometimes he looks like a man playing against boys. If he had a decent, consistent outside shot, he’d be gone after this season.

Game starts in 15 minutes and I doubt that there’s even a thousand people in the stands. I understand that it’s a Thursday night and it’s Oregon State but come on folks… hopefully it changes in the next 30 minutes or so.

Here are some Utah guys that are missing:
– Luther Elliss
– Dave Costa (Four time x Pro Bowl selection at DT/DE)
– Bob Trumpy (Four time X Pro Bowl selection)
– Mac Speedie WR (Two time x Pro Bowl selection) -

Yeap….and Fleming also won four Super Bowls in his career. Two with the Packers and two with the Dolphins. Before the advent of the Patriots’ tyranny with Tom Brady, he held the record for most Super Bowls won as a player. Fernandez was a beast with the “No-Name” defense. He probably should have won the MVP award for Super Bowl VII over Jake Scott.

Crazy that we’re still talking about a guy that was only in Utah for one semester plus…he couldn’t even win the starter’s job or get on the field consistently at Indiana, and that was even with Penix suffering season-ending injuries every season he was there. I will say that Tuttle is a very smart dude, book-wise, and is set for a civilian…[Read more]

Yeah, I guess you could add Latu to that list Latu to that list…but those Wisconsin teams he played in were pretty mediocre, going 14-12 during his two years there. He definitely got more playing time there but his stats were pretty ho-hum.

During my time following the Utes, the only player I’ve seen go to an arguably better situation after transferring or entering the portal is Nate Johnson going to Vanderbilt. And I say arguably because of Vandy’s academic reputation and it’s membership in the SEC. Everyone else has gone to lesser P4/5 programs, G5, or FCS.

Given their internal circumstances and the timing of Fish’s departure, this was the best hire possible for the Wildcats. It’s also interesting to hear that guys like Fifita and McMillan look poised to stay in Tucson, which, if true, will still make the Wildcats a dangerous team.
