The Miami Ute replied to the topic Don't think NIL is sustainable long-term in the forum Football 1 month ago
It is not unfettered capitalism. If it was that, you’d already have a College Football League of 32 teams and everybody else pounding sand. Do you think if it was unfettered capitalism both the B1G and SEC would be filled with legacy bottom feeders like Miss St, Purdue, Vandy, Iowa, etc…? I think not…

Like who cares at this point. This dude never even took a class at Utah and probably won’t do anything at the college level. He’s addition by subtraction.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic The portal has made bowl games a joke in the forum Football 1 month ago
For sure bowls are irrelevant today. The only reason they exist is to provide content to the networks. In today’s brave new world, the only thing that matters is if you made the CFP. If you didn’t, then you’re second rate. Can anyone imagine the NFL putting on exhibition games for teams that didn’t make the playoffs? Neither can I…bowls are…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Faison from USU in the portal in the forum Football 1 month ago
I saw USU twice in Logan this season and Faison excelled in both games. Not only is he a good rusher, he’s also dangerous catching balls out of the backfield. I’d take him without any questions.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Fellow opinions on booing in the NIL Mercenary Era? in the forum Football 1 month ago
I never boo my own team/players but I do get mad when a player makes a stupid mistake or displays what I perceive to be a lack of effort. This is a Pandora’s Box that players, the administrations, conferences, networks, media have opened, especially when you include the fact that online betting is endemic, and no one knows where we’re going to…[Read more]

I’ve taken my daughters to numerous Utah sporting events including the Rose Bowl, PAC 12 CCG, Las Vegas Bowl, etc…however, in a word, they’re not into Utah or any sports in general and are certainly not fans. The only reason they haven’t had any issues going with me to all of these sporting events is the extracurricular activities that came…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Utah Lands Breakout Utah State Transfer WR Otto Tia in the forum Football 1 month ago
You’d think that college sports would learn from the pros, don’t you? There’s a big reason why free agency in the pros is strictly regulated. It’s because they know that unfettered and unregulated free agency dilutes the value of the product. The reality is that if the players aren’t loyal, within certain parameters, to the team how can you…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Utah Lands Breakout Utah State Transfer WR Otto Tia in the forum Football 1 month ago
Who really knows what the future has in store for us…I can see a future scenario where a guy leaves college with, say two years of eligibility remaining like Sione Vaki did, stink it up in the NFL and come back to college in order to continue to get paid playing football.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Utah Lands Breakout Utah State Transfer WR Otto Tia in the forum Football 1 month ago
Honestly, it’s hard to get excited about one season rentals like Otto Tia…here’s why…the clock’s on him…maybe he does well and his stock skyrockets or maybe he has a hard time learning a new system and isn’t even a factor this season. I mean, everyone here was excited about Anthony Woods and it looks like that guy won’t even ever play a…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Holiday Bowl in the forum Football 1 month ago
Six years ago, I stayed in the same hotel with my family for a week in San Diego and, during that period of time, two bowls were played in the area. Two teams stayed in the same hotel. One, unfortunately, was BYU, who was playing Wyoming in the Poinsettia Bowl. That went over about as well as a turn in a punchbowl, going to the gym in the early…[Read more]

Some of the bigger names that Oklahoma has lost include quarterback Jackson Arnold, wide receiver Jaquaize Pettaway, linebacker Dasan McCullough, wide receiver Brenen Thompson, wide receiver Nic Anderson, tight end Bauer Sharp, wide receiver J.J. Here’s what we know…we know that college football, under a certain set of guidelines, has been wildly popular for over a hundred of years. In fact, at one time college football was much more popular than professional football.
Here’s what we don’t know…we don’t know if professionalizing college football will expand or even maintain its…[Read more]

Sports is a loss-leader for the vast majority of universities. That leads me to conclude that if the courts force universities to compensate athletes as employees, then most universities will take the path of least resistance and drop sports in general. Most will drop sports because it won’t be affordable but others, like…[Read more]

The problem with comparing college athletes with salaried employees of any industry, is that no one pays money to watch the salaried employees go about their business. Athletes are more akin to entertainers (singers, actors, comedians, etc..) in that their value is completely based on the number of eyeballs that they bring in. Just look at all…[Read more]

I would agree with all that, especially the IRS part. You have to believe that somewhere soon down the line, the IRS will take an interest in all of these “kids” making hundreds of thousands of dollars. How much do you want to make a bet that quite a few of these guys, a lot of which have probably never had a job except for sports in their…[Read more]
