The Miami Ute replied to the topic Not trying to stir up trouble but I've got a question about Utah NIL deals. in the forum Football 11 months ago
Eagle, I don’t think we’ll ever know the reality of that story. If Rising was economical with the truth regarding his recovery timeline, is Whitt so hard up for a QB that he’d keep someone that lied to him? That’s a tough pill to swallow for a head coach. It really looks like no one (Rising, Whitt, Utah medical staff, etc..) comes out looking…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Not trying to stir up trouble but I've got a question about Utah NIL deals. in the forum Football 11 months ago
Because RBs as a position are expendable. Rising was 1st Team All PAC 12 in 2021 in the most important position in the field and would have been in the same area in 2022 if Nix, Williams, and Penix hadn’t parachuted in. In addition, if you look at JJ’s total production in the last two seasons, it’s just slightly more than what Jayden Daniels got…[Read more]

That’s why I said I’d be interested in seeing the rating numbers. They have to be abysmal. The only bowl games I watched so far were the last few minutes of the Rose Bowl and the Sugar Bowl. I went to the Las Vegas Bowl and would have watched it because it’s Utah. I have a deep suspicion that things are going to get much worse for the ratings…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Jonah Elliss Declares for NFL Draft in the forum Football 11 months ago
This was the chronicle of a death foretold. I’ve said countless times in this forum that Elliss has by far the highest draft grades of any Ute eligible for the draft. He’s a borderline 1st RD pick. Of course he was going to declare for the draft. If he hadn’t declared and had a down season or an injury next year it would have cost him hundreds…[Read more]

You feeling me now Tanny? Told you there was no way with his draft position that he’d be coming back.

Last post on this subject for me…the question is whether the DB made contact with the receiver prior to the ball arriving. If he did, its DPI. There’s no way a person can lawyer himself or herself out of that.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Playoff Semi: Washington vs Texas in the forum Football 11 months ago
Madden once said that you could call a hold on every play, not DPI. Ok then, so let’s just change the rules to what they were during the Jack Tatum/George Atkinson days of “bump and run.”. There’s nothing I hate more than having rules that aren’t enforced. In my life, I’ve seen DPIs less egregious than that called and also some that were much…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Transfer portal QB’s are the way to go, the Noah Fifita’s are the exception. in the forum Football 11 months ago
Yes, next year he’ll be RS Sophomore in his third season with the Wildcats. If he continues on an upward tick, he’s a legitimate Heisman candidate ala Johnny Manziel or Kyler Murray. After another great season, the NIL would really have to be substantial for him to chance an injury or a regression in his game.

If you mean college career, then I’d say that he’s going to finish it in Tucson. He’s NFL draft eligible after next season.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Jocelyn Malaska to Sooners in the forum Football 11 months ago
That is interesting. Maybe I’m wrong, but Marlaska is the first Ute player without any real protagonism that I’ve seen leave for a better football program. Everyone else has kind of taken a step down.

Jim, I also found that comment by Whitt kind of problematic. How could a guy that’s two full years into the program not have a grasp of the offense? Is it that difficult or just another example of coach speak?

Here is how the NCAA rulebook officially defines the defensive pass interference rule:
“Defensive pass interference is contact beyond the neutral zone by a Team B player whose intent to impede an eligible opponent is obvious and could prevent the opponent the opportunity of receiving a catchable forward pass. When in question, a legal forward…

Here’s another view of the last play of the game. To me, that’s textbook DPI.

He was draped all over the guy’s back with his left hand on his shoulders so that he could elevate and swat the ball with his right. There’s also a ton of contact well before the ball gets to the receiver.

Eagle, Penix ended the regular season as the #14 rated QB in the FBS.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Playoff Semi: Washington vs Texas in the forum Football 11 months ago
Washington is the fucking luckiest team on the face of the earth. Total DPI on the last play of the game.
-
The Miami Ute replied to the topic Playoff Semi: Washington vs Texas in the forum Football 11 months ago
No, he shouldn’t have. Go look at his game by game statistics. Yes, Washington was undefeated but Penix had a number of bad to mediocre games (versus ASU, Oregon State, and Wazzu) this season while Daniels had none.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Playoff Semi: Washington vs Texas in the forum Football 11 months ago
I think Washington is going to get curb-stomped by Michigan. Texas could have done better in this game but continuously shot itself in the foot with turnovers and stupid penalties at the worst time. Michigan has a much better defense than Texas (#1 in the FBS), so I’ll be shocked if Penix and his receivers are allowed to run wild in the NCG.…[Read more]

One thing you could do is license the universities’ names and likenesses but have the football teams be professional in all respects. That means that none of the players would be students at all but professionals working for a shot in the NFL. And it’s the NFL who would have to fund this business venture, not the taxpayers or the universities.…[Read more]

I have a better solution. How about we get universities out of the entertainment business and let the NFL deal with all the hassle and cost of developing their future players? That scenario you’re suggesting is jumping the shark in a big way and definitely not something that the vast majority of universities would even contemplate.
