Ok not a brick wall but maybe like really old particle board that doesn’t break easily.

There are a few traditional football powers who spent most of their history matching this description: just one or two rungs removed from a community college

To be fair, the conversation of BCS busters didn’t start with Utah in 2004. In 2001, the parochial school was having an undefeated season and that’s when I first remember the talking heads discussing whether a non-BCS school should be considered for a NY6 game. Luke Staley got hurt, the parochial school lost to Hawaii in their last game of the…[Read more]

I saw that he threw two passes for 4 yards and both went for TD’s. Were they running him in for RPO at the goal line?

Are we sure it was Harlan who wrecked the conference stuff? By all accounts, it was Randall as part of the Pac-12 Presidents that was clueless when it came to valuation when it came to negotiating the new TV deal. I can’t find the quote but most of the other schools blame Randall for coming up with the 50 MM or bust stance Kliavkoff took with…[Read more]

Boise and Utah were trying to occupy the same space in the mid 2000’s so it was natural for some animosity to build. Petersen owning Whitt didn’t help matters.
Until this year, Boise had owned Oregon also so I’ve always seen Boise as someone that could be a good rival based on games instead of the fake ones like Colorado.

Had the two gone through their full playing eligibility, Saturday would have been their senior night, too. I already had a good feeling about this game. Even more so now. #22 Iowa State 5:30 on FOX. Go Utes!

Having all conference champions get an autobid would quickly reverse this trend of 18-20 team conferences and P2. Utah could go back to a regional conference with historical references as joining with schools in West Virginia and Florida would no longer be viewed as necessary to be included.
Go to 24 teams immediately and stop with all the…[Read more]

Based on last night’s rankings, 9-1 parochial school would get the 12 seed. 5-8 is not even in the cards at this point.

Don’t take it personally. I’ve been of the opinion for decades that until EVERY school has an equal opportunity at earning a National Championship – like how it’s done in every sport at every level except for FBS – it’s just a beauty contest and deserves no more respect. So I root for chaos, chaos and more chaos.
The Big 12 is just the latest…[Read more]

Florida (the school) has that effect on people. Nowhere near the success of Florida State or Miami but sure acts like the football world revolves around them.

I’ve never met Harlan or Whittingham but it sure looks from 30,000 feet as if there is rot at the top of the program.
Let’s look at the luminaries who have beaten top 5 Head Coach and the GOAT of Utah Head Coaches:
Brent Brennan, career G5 HC in 1st year at Arizona (38-54, .413 career record)
Kenny Dillingham, 2nd year as head coach ever (11-11,…[Read more] -

It would certainly prove everything Utah fan has been saying about the Big 12 as far as national relevance and perceived level of competition if their champion was ranked behind the MW AND AAC.
I will say that the TV execs who “advise” the committee would be more likely to put 2 loss Colorado in because of the eyes Deion brings than any of Iowa…[Read more]

You’re right. Eddie George and Byron Hanspard. Talk about team overshadowing best individual player.
For everyone who believes that you need a 230 pound bruiser to run the ball, Troy Davis was 5’8, 185 and ran against stacked boxes since he was all Iowa State had.
