  • We have conceded the facemask. Even though the initial contact at or near the helmet which made Rose’s head turn is typically an indicator of either facemask or illegal hands to the helmet. In the PAC, we had a player ejected for targeting for less than that facemask. You can’t go high on a QB as another parochial school defender found out a…[Read more]

  • On a separate note, can we have some sort of technology that indicates when a coach calls a timeout! There’s not much else that p**ses me off in a game when that play clock goes to 00 flags fly for delay of game and two seconds later a ref comes running out onto the field announcing a ghost timeout.

Better option might be to not let a TO be c…[Read more]

  • Both hockey and soccer have rules where the play doesn’t stop unless the foul creates an advantage for the offending team.

In Hockey, they play on while the offensive team still has the puck inside the blue zone because calling a penalty against the defense and forcing a faceoff hurts the offense. In soccer, a trip behind the play could negate…[Read more]

  • neither of your teams could handle my cincinatti reds. fact

  • Someone needs to come up with an agreed upon timeline for blue blood membership. @UteHorn put his which magically Texas managed to make the threshold. But none of the original blue bloods were on there: the Ivies, Rutgers, Georgia Tech. Texas wasn’t relevant until Dana Bible so I guess we ignore pre-WW2 unless it fits a narrative.

  • You didn’t ignore your Texas roots but that’s okay. It’s tough to take that out of the equation. Someone who grew up on the west coast like me would probably go opposite on most of your evaluations. i.e., Oklahoma State and Oregon State were pretty much equals in historical success until T Boone decided to try to outspend Phil Knight. Yet in…[Read more]

  • follow up: 4th quarter scoring defense since the Baylor game

Oklahoma State – 16 of 19 points allowed
    Arizona – 7 of 23
    Arizona State – 7 of 27
    Texas Christian – 0 of 13
    Houston – 10 of 17
    parochial school – 9 of 22

49 out of 121 (40%) points allowed in the 4th quarter and only the first TD against Oklahoma State could be considered garbage…[Read more]

  • You’re giving the first Houston “drive” way too much credit. A one yard pass turned into a broken play TD. It didn’t build any momentum or show that new concepts were going to work. The rest of that game was the true representation of Utah’s offense which was no different than the rest of the season.

The first half against the parochial school…[Read more]

The rivalries with Oregon and Washington were born out of hard, fair play on the field and our fanbase interacting with theirs as equals and not with an axe to grind. I can’t count the number of times someone from those fanbases told me that they were surprised I didn’t act like BYU fan. I know they meant it as complimentary but it was also…[Read more]

I remember when Whitt had the reputation for being willing to run anything at any time so the other team always had to keep on their toes. Not sure I can trace that going away to Ludwig coming in or Sitake leaving but it’s been more noticeable every year that he is taking less and less chances.

I know he goes for a lot of 4th downs but those…[Read more]

  • I gave my nephew some advice last night after he was inundated with comments about Utah’s “irrelevancy” and similar nonsense. When someone or someone’s is obsessively posting or commenting on something they claim they don’t believe (especially on their rival’s site) it’s really them holding up a giant sign saying “ASK ME ABOUT MY INFERIORITY COM…[Read more]

  • The late calls have been going on for at least the last two seasons. Most offenses will stick with their own plan since it can really screw up your tempo switching your own timing to take advantage of that.

I’m sure ARod has been planning for the late calls since this game was announced. He did a couple of things that I really liked. They used…[Read more]

  • follow up:

Let’s be clear on the circumstances. Yormark offered the 4 corner schools because they were the best available schools which would also increase the overall conference compensation.

The second reason is that he could envision the same west coast conference that I just laid out with 7 former PAC teams and a few MW. And I beg you…[Read more]

  • Something y’all have to more honest about is, Utah had no where else to go
That’s not technically true. The Big 12 was the best of a lot of perceived bad options. It did not represent an increase in compensation from previous (which I know was no longer available), it did not represent an increase in competition, and joining after Texas & O…[Read more]

  • I don’t have issues with that specifically.

What I do have issue with the defense is that after the mythical holding call, Scalley didn’t blitz again after that. I don’t understand why we stopped. Retzlaff was terrible when we blitzed. I don’t have stats but would be surprised to know if he even completed a pass when we blitzed. So why stop…[Read more]

  • Based on my experience, teams that are going through adversity are always at the tipping point and it doesn’t take much to push them back into the failure cycle. It’s an early game on the road so I assume the team will come out focused and hyped.

But as noted philosopher Mike Tyson once said: Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the…[Read more]

  • It’s the timing. Your first post was at the same time we had a bunch of new accounts whose only intent was to rub the loss in. If you don’t fit into that mold, keep posting and you’ll eventually earn acceptance just like Jim McMahon, Ted Lasso and even Matt have. I’m sure I’m missing a couple.

Matt also came in strong with the rhetoric but…[Read more]

  • we’ve turned into a society of poor losers and worse winners. and i’m not particularly happy with the development even though I know tilting at that particular windmill is long past having a chance to affect.

  • What precisely is the issue Utah fans have with the conference?

It’s not a conference we wanted to join. It’s as simple as that. The point is no deeper than “I’m attracted to blondes” and you are arguing that I’m stupid for not wanting brunettes instead.

I have no problem with the schools in the Big12. But that doesn’t mean I want a…[Read more]

  • I’m not trying to call you out specifically or with any animosity. I have no problem with comments about officiating. I’ve already said above that every call is subjective. It’s just the wording you used that takes it from “making a call I don’t agree with” to a deliberate attempt to affect an outcome.
