I’m as hard on the coaches as anyone on here but the players still have to make the plays. As good as the defense has been, the numbers of interceptions that have ended up on the ground is astounding. A PBU can force a punt but with the lack of a return game, you’re giving up 40+ yards of field position.
That’s where the parochial school has…[Read more]

Yes. That’s why I listed redzone last. My whole point is the difference between 3 losses and undefeated can be very thin. And I attribute ours mainly to coaching.

One team executed when they needed to and one team didn’t? Seems more important than any of the stats you listed.

If we had a semi functioning redzone offense through the first seven games there’s a great chance we are 7-0 right now.

I will NOT miss these post practice interviews and the press conference the week after a game. I hate being someone who doesn’t believe a person I admire so greatly but KW could tell me it’s 75 degrees and sunny outside and I’d have to go make sure it wasn’t actually snowing.

False start is a dead ball foul. The play shouldn’t have started but sometimes does before anyone hears the whistle.
Illegal motion is the same as offsides where you can choose the result of the play or the penalty.

That’s why Alford hasn’t played. The Wizard of Ludville’s offense. So glad he’s gone.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Difficult Offense? in the forum Football 3 weeks, 1 day ago
Huntley had the improvisation down but what really made that 2019 offense go was him getting hurt against SC. The pass blocking was really subpar that year and he was having to escape immediate rushers constantly but with his lower body injuries he couldn’t be the runner he was in previous years. So he made the first man miss, found his single…[Read more]

You hadn’t heard that? It’s been one of the most repeated stories from 2021. That on that 4th down call, Ludwig sent in a play but when the team came out in the wrong formation, Whitt called for timeout. When they asked what play Rising thought was called he said flea-flicker. The coaches looked at each other and decided that would be a great…[Read more]

After the UCLA game and then the first half of Oregon State it was clear that Johnson could not make even the simplest throws with any consistency. Even if Barnes could only provide 75% of what Rising did, he was the only option for the rest of the season.

I have been making that exact argument for the last 6 years. When Ludwig has an accurate QB that can improvise with his legs when the planned options are not available, his “system” seems to work really well. Those types aren’t exactly dime a dozen at the college level.

Without being in the QB room, none of us can answer that. Ludwig himself says that it takes two FULL offseasons to completely install his offense.
One possibility is the number of decisions that a QB needs to make on each play. Another could be having 16 different ways to run to the A gap. A third could be the number of available options on…[Read more]

Plain and simple: He made it “complicated” by his asinine play calling and not utilizing his talent. Killing any sort of momentum with his own play calls. Which then makes everyone, players and fans, frustrated beyond belief. Let’s just be grateful he’s longer OC.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Rose in the forum Football 3 weeks, 1 day ago
Rose was also the guy who was QB1B coming out of spring ball in ’23. He had the inside track in fall camp should Rising not be able to go per all reports and OnlyU. Then Bishop crunches him during a scrimmage and ever since he doesn’t know the playbook.
I never realized that a kidney (liver?) surgery could have such an effect on playbook…[Read more]

What do Brandon Rose, Nate Johnson, Peter Costelli, Bryson Barnes, JaQuinden Jackson, Sam Huard, Mack Howard and Cooper Justice all have in common?
What do Brian Johnson, Cam Rising and Tyler Huntley all have in common?
hint: one set of names were recruited and coached up by one man. the other set were just coached up by the same man. Perhaps…[Read more]
