Ferentz didn’t fire his son. In lieu of forcing him to fire, the AD put in his kid’s contract that if certain season averages weren’t met, his contract would be terminated. And when the bar of just being able to run a top 100 offense for one season was to big a burden, the stipulation was enforced.

I feel like Whitt would retire or step down and thr finances wouldn’t be an issue really. That’s the least of my concerns with the program.

Problem is the timing. Nothing significant can change this week. After that, you’ve got another bye and then the parochial school. That’s where any changes will be seen, providing Whitt doesn’t decide the answer is that the team just isn’t physical enough and gets more kids injured in practice.

Yeah. He’s definitely feeling all this. And he’s as stoic as they come.

Am I wrong in thinking him saying “Everything’s up in the air right now. Everything’s up for evaluation, and we will evaluate.” is very un-Whitt like? And those comments coupled with “Very proud of the defense, with absolutely no help, they held their own.” I usually think think things will stay status quo with our program but it feels differe…[Read more]

the only thing I’ve been able to find is the Locked On Utes podcast where they danced around the issues for 30 minutes but still weren’t willing to come to any real conclusions.

Which is why I took away my posting privileges for 10 days after it happened. I just hadn’t seen him post since and didn’t want to do a private apology when the issue happened in public. I’m 100% team Charlie

Sure, but the relative entertainment opportunities between the two cities isn’t a new development. Any more than the fact that the state of Arizona produces more talent and Tempe is closer to Vegas and/or Southern California than Salt Lake is.
When the choice is old guy Herm v not quite so old guy Whitt (even discounting the racial aspect),…[Read more]

welcome back Charlie. I hope you took a couple of weeks off for some reason other than me being a complete jackass to you for which I sincerely apologize.

I’m on the same page. I want Whitt to dig himself out of the hole. But it can’t happen with his current staff. I brought up Harbaugh last week and think it’s still appropriate.

It’s more than just NIL though. People on here laughed about Kenny Dillingham’s postgame interview last week. Do you know who wasn’t laughing? His players. They absolutely love playing for a coach who is young, enthusiastic, doesn’t think the answer to every situation is the same one he’s been doing for the last 20 years.,,
Dillingham may…[Read more]

Yes but in hopefully an amusing light hearted way that we can look back on and laugh about.

the 2017 parallel is apt. 3 of the 4 were when the starter went down with injury and the highly talented but woefully inaccurate backup was not able to lead the team to victory. The 4th was when the starter tried to return from injury before fully healed and had the worst game of his career.

All throughout sports history, highly successful coaches have been fired when they were no longer effective in their current situation. The notion that what you currently have is the best you can ever aspire to runs counter to everything that makes sports great.

If the last two years are only “close” to fireable, then what does that truly look like? You and I had long conversations on here in early 2023 about how bringing Rising back would screw up the QB room for multiple seasons. If a couple of armchair analysts could predict this exact outcome, how much worse does it have to get before enough was too…[Read more]

the exodus of offensive players, whether it’s current, signed recruits or future recruits will be massive. Even defensive guys. They sounded so down last night talking about they know they must keep the score down because of how little our O produces. Anyway I know he’s tied to Whitt. And why would I expect proactive changes. But here’s hoping.
