Yeah I don’t know about that last statement. I don’t get fans fascination with Hill. You have zero evidence to suggest that he will be all world. I still think we roll with Scalley.
My biggest problem with Scalley is he really is still young and doesn’t have connections outside of Utah at all. I wonder where he gets the offensive coaches.

The score dictated leaving Rising in since it was never more than a TD difference. Whitt can always fall back on that logic. At the same time, look at the MLB playoffs. Aces get pulled in one run games because every game is must win. But for some reason, football coaches are married to the idea that the QB is off limits unless it’s a blowout…[Read more]

The consecutive bowl losses really make you wonder. Penn State and Northwestern are particularly discouraging.
I say all of the time that Utah needs to get into the Big10. But damn even in a bowl game all those teams had to do was downshift once before coasting to a win. How do we think regular season will be?

I agree but I don’t think it is careful or controlled at all.
Rising’s injury reports last season were far from controlled. I know many thought it was a carefully crafted narrative. It was far from that when you know how it went down live. This season? Same thing. You have no idea how they are evaluating Rising’s injury in practice. If a pla…[Read more]

Is anyone calling for him to step down or be fired immediately? I think even his biggest detractors would say that is silly.
I think all anyone wants is for their to be a cold eyes look at 2023 & however 2024 ends up and compare it to 2021 & 2022 (both 9-3 seasons even if the allocation of the losses allowed Utah to play in the CCG) to see if…[Read more]

I disagree. It’s going to take some major refocusing in a short period of time but there is no reason Utah can’t go 5-1 or better the rest of the way. It has to happen on the field though and everyone needs to take ownership.
The players need to quit telling reporters how much they want to prove that the last game was a fluke and just get it…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Where would this team be without Bernard? in the forum Football 1 month, 1 week ago
No, that’s not quite what I’m saying.
1) Cam Rising has the right and my complete endorsement to continue at Utah until his eligibility is complete or he decides to hang it up. I’m unequivocal on that. at the same time,
2) Kyle Whittingham (the head coach) and Andy Ludwig (Offensive Coordinator and QB Coach) are responsible to have plans B, C,…[Read more]

okay, one of us has to go to bed first 🙂
I don’t ever call anyone out specifically, even though it may seem so based on which post I reply to. I see something I want to respond to and it’s the premise, not the person. And the first sentence from the OP was definitely something that struck a nerve. If you feel you caught some shrapnel or…[Read more]

Absolutely.
Have you considered that keeping that decision a secret had no benefit to anyone in the moment? He was waiting to see his draft grade and it got folded into “will he, won’t he play against Penn State”. Once he got a UDFA grade, he played it up. Penn State didn’t seem fazed by him playing. And the last two years of the Ute QB…[Read more]

1 – Utah can absolutely make the CCG with 2 losses. 3 feels like a stretch with so many teams but it’s too early to do the math.
3 – The defense did it’s job in the 1st half and 3rd quarter. The 4th was more a combination of having to play from behind and that great play by Leavitt on third and long to Skattebo. That one turned into a back…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic 100% coaching in the forum Football 1 month, 1 week ago
one of the biggest parts of in-game coaching is making sure you have the right personnel to do what you are asking of them. That includes the QB. No one is faulting Rising’s desire to be in the game. It is up to the staff to recognize whether he gives the team the best chance to win.
So the real question becomes “was Rising the best option?”…[Read more]

Pepa actually came into the program around 370 and is just naturally a big boy. The staff cut his bad weight but there’s only so low that you can go. And once you put back on good weight through diet and conditioning, you end up where he is now.
If you remember a couple of years ago, he could only manage about one play before needing to come…[Read more]

Not to mention that there are close to 130 distinct personalities in that locker room that all believe they are the best option for the team. When one player is given all the accolades and makes the most money.,, that is only sustainable when he’s winning games. Once that facade is proven false you get 10, 15, 20 different cliques who all…[Read more]

to be fair, you could have probably thrown the ball better than Rising did tonight. I’m pretty sure I could have and the last time I played QB was when I kept clanging the ball off the back of my linemen’s helmets in 7th grade.

I think the whole fanbase would have celebrated the decision, if made, to pull Rising after the 2nd drive when it was obvious that he was not capable of performing at the level required. The best interests of the team and the player were no longer served by leaving him out there. And quite frankly, the O Line deserves one hell of an atta-boy…[Read more]

I’m not putting that loss on Scalley. Sure, things could have gone better for the D but with a competent offense, giving up 26 points shouldn’t have been a deal breaker. I think it was 7 times inside the ASU 30 and got 19 points out of it.
That being said, whenever I see 9 Utah defenders on the LOS late in a tight game I hide my head under a…[Read more]

If I remember correctly, Tupai got so discouraged that it became a psychological issue and he had to retire. Major college football isn’t for everyone so I’m not blaming the staff but there comes a point where you can’t treat 120+ players the same and get the best results out of each. There just isn’t enough time available in 20 hour weeks to…[Read more]

Seriously, that SC linebacker owes Utah some royalty money.
Troy Williams also gifted him with a pick in the 2017 game. The SC fans around me laughed when I said out loud that Utah should just put him on scholarship since he was their best receiver.
