thirtyfour-thirtyone started the topic Beck's RPO offense and penalties in the forum Football 2 days, 22 hours ago
Troy Taylor’s offense seemed to generate an “ineligible receiver downfield” call every few plays. This seemed to really hamstring the offense at times. The O-line was always down field run-blocking when they shouldn’t have been. I associated that problem with RPO offenses in general, and was a little nervous about us running an RPO scheme…[Read more]

He doesn’t seem to meet the requirements, but the NCAA seems to be handing out eligibility like candy these days, so here’s to hoping.

“insert himself into the offensive equation:”
Kyle will apply for a COVID year of eligibility, and make himself the starting fullback. His calves would repel tackles.

thirtyfour-thirtyone replied to the topic Dampier in the forum Football 1 week, 2 days ago
Lud’s offense required the quarterback to use pre-snap motions and reads to figure out what the defense was doing, and run the play (or change the play) accordingly. He then had to be on the same page with the OL. WR, RB, etc. about reads during the play to get the ball to the right place. Cam did that pretty well, and the results were good…[Read more]

thirtyfour-thirtyone replied to the topic Devon Dampier in the forum Football 1 week, 3 days ago
The guy was reasonably successful in his first year running Beck’s offense. Maybe we get some other hot-shot QB in the portal. Maybe we don’t. I would feel pretty good either way if we have Dampier on the roster. This is the closest we could possibly get at this point to continuity on the offensive side of the ball (in a good way, anyway).…[Read more]

thirtyfour-thirtyone replied to the topic What version of Beck will Whitt allow? in the forum Football 2 weeks ago
My biggest hope is that Beck will be able to do whatever is required to move the ball and score points with the personnel available to him. Hopefully he can also help QBs develop. We will see.

I’m wondering what the Lohner situation really is, and if he will make an impact if he joins the team. I would hope that after a season of football, he will bring a physical inside presence.

Yeah, it will also be interesting to see if the team shows up to get a win, or is already checked out. Also, will they bother with a #2 quarterback, or just let Bernard take over if Bottari needs to come out of the game (or just start punting on first down)? I think I’m going to Alta, so hopefully someone will post a summary.

thirtyfour-thirtyone replied to the topic Wilson debacle is on Whit in the forum Football 3 weeks, 4 days ago
Wilson must be great in practice, but in games, he is clearly the worst QB on the roster, and it’s not close. Ludwig and Bajakian must have been seeing something during the week in practice that made them think Wilson would be OK (or someone promised him playing time). Either way, Whit probably should have stepped in to sort this out a lot…[Read more]

Someone on the training staff. I’m hoping the bad feelings have been exaggerated, but at this point, who knows?

thirtyfour-thirtyone replied to the topic Details about Rose's injury makes me even more disappointed in our coaching staff in the forum Football 1 month ago
There was an incident with Wilson in the days leading up to the game. I’m a little surprised he dressed. The leadership council basically voted him off the island. I’m not sure where that leaves things going forward, but I’m not sure the coaching staff felt like they could have put Wilson in the game. That might have led to some poor decision…[Read more]

Well, since it sounds like the team doesn’t seem to care much for Wilson, and he hasn’t exactly been leading them to victory, the situation seems to be spiraling into the center of the toilet. Who knows, though? Hopefully they can get it together. Maybe the defense will start scoring more.

Ghost, or anyone else who might know:
What’s up with the reported “team chemistry” issues with Wilson? Is he playable at this point, both due to this supposed issue and his health? I’m hoping these things have been blow out of proportion by the rumor mill, especially since he is one of our two remaining QBs for the year.

thirtyfour-thirtyone replied to the topic What has been your favorite rivalry game of your lifetime? in the forum Football 1 month, 1 week ago
The years in the 90’s when we had a pretty good team, but always lost too many WTF games to really be in the national conversion, but we finally started beating the zoobs with some regularity. 1993-1995 were great, but abusing Kevin Feterik at their place, with Darnel Arceneaux coming off the bench to lead the offense was probably my favorite of…[Read more]

thirtyfour-thirtyone replied to the topic Is there a Sione Vaki for Saturday? in the forum Football 1 month, 1 week ago
It would be great if we found a way to use Stanley as a legitimate weapon. I worry that he only looked amazing because the USU and SUU D are kinda slow. It seems like he should be getting/faking some sweeps.
I also would like to see more creative use of Lohner on offense (why not?).
One thing I think we are sorely missing is that Cam was…[Read more]

thirtyfour-thirtyone replied to the topic Circus D, Duck O in the forum Football 1 month, 1 week ago
The final play of the circus defense didn’t go so well for us, though, with Harline still being open and all. That is one of my least favorite plays of all time.
I do like the idea of trying something off-the-wall to throw them off, though. The Duck will always have a special place in my heart.

My doctor has cleared me for all kinds of liquor, but I will make a decision after warming up. I might need to wear a glove to hide all the tape on my hand. My grip strength hasn’t been the same since I punched a hole in the wall during the Baylor game.

I have a new strategy for when the offense is on the field:
1 shot for each three and out, and two for each turnover. Either way, I’ll be enjoying our offense a lot more.
I have a concept of a plan for getting all that liquor to my seat, but like Kyle Whittingham, I’m not gonna tip my hand.

Worst:
Johnny Harline. I can still see that circus defense in my mind. Ouch.Best:
Honorable Mention: 1997 – Darnell Arceneaux cleans up after Jonathan Crosswhite (again), and our defense (John Frank the tank) ate Kevin Feterik alive. I think we ran a surprise 3-man front most of the day, and still got pressure and sacks.2004: We beat the…[Read more]
