TruckStopTerrors replied to the topic Reports: Utah NHL team (Mammoth?) has selected permanent name in the forum NHL 1 week, 3 days ago
I think it’s a good and unique name. A lot of merchandise branding opportunities too. I hope he gets the logo right. Your UHC gear will now be a collector item on the bright side.

TruckStopTerrors replied to the topic Devils advocate: Why would Andre leave a G-League HC to be a college assistant? in the forum Basketball (Men) 1 week, 3 days ago
In Miller’s case, unless somebody like Miller comes out and says he offered and was shot down, we won’t know for certain. I still think where there is smoke, there is usually fire. Josh Grant in his interview was more forthcoming than most people are in these type of situations saying that help was offered to Smith by former players etc and he…[Read more]

Yeah, it sounds as if Smith was either very stubborn in his ways or he had some paranoia that former fan favorites would upstage him. Not sure what it is, but if you get offered that kind of help for free and don’t take it…. I don’t know what your thought process is.

There’s a logical reason they are doing this and trying to increase enrollment though. It goes beyond just future conference realignment where they were told this was one of the thresholds for B1G membership down the line. Universities are going to see steep declines in enrollment across the nation as there are less children being born compared…[Read more]

TruckStopTerrors replied to the topic Harlan met with Jensen in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 weeks, 5 days ago
Depends on compensation. I get what you’re saying. The college level has far more headaches with everything involved with it now. The argument last go around seemed to be he wanted to be an NBA coach and was on the fast track for that. Years later, that still hasn’t happened. So who knows ultimately?

TruckStopTerrors replied to the topic Harlan met with Jensen in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 weeks, 5 days ago
I’m sure he’s not fond of the idea of recruiting. He really doesn’t have to do that in the NBA. Yes, that could be a negative of hiring him if that is true. It could also be as simple as them covering all their bases right now in this meeting and working everything out. I guess we’ll find out pretty soon.

TruckStopTerrors replied to the topic Harlan met with Jensen in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 weeks, 5 days ago
Does the timing really matter whether it ends up being Jensen or not? Let’s say it’s not Jensen and ends up being Miller because Jensen declines. Wouldn’t we want Miller to have the same opportunity and time to sell himself and his program to the players we have on the roster that we wish to keep?

If he is smart, he will. That Mavs team is going nowhere. The NBA head coaching job doesn’t seem like it’s out there for him for whatever reason. Is he content being an assistant?

You’re looking purely at results and using that as a metric as to why one guy is a better X’s and O’s coach yet ignoring the absolute fact that Larry was a far superior recruiter. There are many bad coaches in basketball in general that are fortunate enough to have a good roster which overshadows how truly bad they are. There are also good…[Read more]

Disagree. I don’t think you can take winning statistics as the be all end all. Coach K was able to recruit talent that Smith couldn’t. I don’t think this is debatable. This is where opinion comes in. I think Smith got more out of the talent he had to work with than Larry did. I do think he was a better X’s and O’s guy.
Neither coach is…[Read more]

TruckStopTerrors replied to the topic Craig Smith Fired Today in the forum Basketball (Men) 1 month ago
I think it goes beyond just purely money. Smith has never been a good recruiter. You have to be a salesman in this business and he just isn’t. He couldn’t even sell himself to the “whales” to get the NIL funding. Doesn’t that tell us something? They didn’t buy into him. Realistic recruits we wanted most weren’t buying into him. He was just…[Read more]

Harlan made the initial hire, so he deserves the heat he gets in terms of everything.

TruckStopTerrors replied to the topic The Runnin' Utes have certainly exceeded my expectations this season in the forum Basketball (Men) 1 month, 1 week ago
Smith’s biggest issue is going to continue to be recruiting. You can be a good X’s and O’s guy, but if you can’t recruit, you’re never going to be a consistently decent to good program. More NIL support would definitely help, but we also have to accept that Smith is just not a good salesman.

TruckStopTerrors replied to the topic Utah Basketball in the forum Basketball (Men) 1 month, 3 weeks ago
The only thing I will say in Smith’s defense compared to some of the others is that they didn’t live through the NIL era and transfer portal.
Other than that, you answered your own question. Smith was an awful hire after Larry K couldn’t connect with kids and get them to buy into his program after getting them signed. Smith was supposed to…[Read more]

Winning. Which means imo, a new coach with better recruiting abilities, increased NIL support etc. That’s the only way it will turn around.

TruckStopTerrors replied to the topic What is your take on watching BB now as opposed to the past. in the forum Basketball (Men) 2 months ago
I think Silver is just too weak of a commissioner to make the radical changes the game needs to bring fans back. I know there have been suggestions like do away with the corner 3, only allow 15 3 point makes to count as 3’s, and of course a radical one which is make dunks worth 3 points. Until they solve the 3 point shot issue and let the…[Read more]

I really can’t watch NBA games at longer. It’s completely soft basketball. Nothing like the physical basketball we saw in the 80’s and 90’s. Way too many 3 pointers. I just can’t enjoy it any longer with no defense being allowed to be played like in the past with hand checking etc.
