I don’t know what to make of OSU. They’re good, but I don’t know how good. Take away Martinez / Fenwick, and they become very beatable.

Of course we’ll try to win every game, but I’m hoping to adjust my expectations to cope better.

I mentioned this in a different post as well, but according to me, losing to OSU will virtually eliminate us from the P12 CCG race. I think we can only afford to lose to UW and maybe USC.

Martinez is more proven, but if we keep him/Fenwick below 100, we will have done a good job. DJU folds under pressure; I have confidence we will get to him.

True, DJU has potential, but he won’t beat us with his arm. If we can contain Martinez / Fenwick (tall ask), we got this!

@Jim, I agree that a win is not a given. Obviously CR/NJ factor is huge, but no full-strength JJ and no Becker are equally big factors. We will have to make this a D battle.

Their otherwise average QB (Nolan?) had a pretty good game in 2021. He connected on a couple deep passes that made a huge difference. I think their RB also rushed for 150+ yards. DJU is adequate. Regardless, their O is potent enough to put up 21-24 points on our D. Can our O score 24-28 points if Cam doesn’t play (and JJ not at full strength, no Becker)?

Great observation, @Proud. This happened quite a bit last year too, and I think KW addressed a related question at a press conference, but I could be wrong about this. I guess it comes down to risk / reward, and looks like they’re fine with the (calculated) risk. But yes, it makes me very nervous sometimes, especially in low-scoring games.

I have been thinking about this. The season is still young, but no team has looked invincible. It would be a great year for under-the-radar teams like Utah to make a push for the CFP, but we’re not there (YET). Here’s to hoping it all comes together!

Agreed, @Central. UCLA could’ve easily put up 21 despite the stellar D. It doesn’t take away from our D. And yes, the 2 dropped passes were potential TDs, but there were 5-6 in total.

Not sure what to call the dropped passes, but it’s possible the UCLA players were too jittery, so in that sense they were *not* unforced. But my point is, our D could perform at a stellar level and it’s possible that UW, USC, UO could still score 24-28 points. The question is can our O score 30 pts?

Based on the record and SOS, I’d say Utah, WSU, UO. Based on eye-test, UO, UW, WSU/OSU. Based on who’d beat us if we played them today, I’d put UO, UW, USC, WSU, OSU in front of us. Overall, I’d say UO, UW at 1a, 1b, with a slight edge to UO because they’re more balanced.
