Happy for NJ. Great town, elite academic school. Greta move for NJ especially if he’s getting a scholarship and some NIL/pay to play. Fresh start considering the QB drama that went down at Utah with Rising’s mysterious injury status. New OC Tim Beck has a solid background of developing QBs, which he’s going to need. NJ fits Becks offensive.

  • Coaching from the couch, Bills and Laumea were projected pre-season P12 1st team this year. Probably good for Bills to go now. Like Laumea, he’s done enough to show his NFL value. Should be interesting to see what the Oline looks like next year without Laumea and Bills. Both should get drafted. Can’t recall Utah in the P12 era having two Oline…[Read more]

  • Defer to coaches voting who are watching film on these players almost every waking moment during the season. Biggest disappointment this season IMO was the Utah Oline. Overall this group was very inconsistent, had way too many penalties, missed assignments, and got pushed around against the good teams. Rushing yards: OSU: 57, Oregon: 99, UW: 115,…[Read more]

  • Good point Eagle. Sadly, Utah truly needs Barnes to play. Going into any game with only one QB is not a good situation. Admirable of Barnes to go on Riley’s show and communicate his intentions and situation. I’m sure directed by KW to get out in front of it considering the Rising communication debacle.

Nothing against Bottari (sp), he did an…[Read more]

  • Trailgoat replied to the topic Harlan in the forum Football 10 months, 2 weeks ago

The next 4-6 years are defining times for Harlan’s run as Utah AD, if he sticks around. Chris Hill’s vision, get to the P12. Randall and Harlan’s vision, get in the club when networks decide on who’s in and who’s out. Utah’s realistic football goal every year will be B12 Championship and play-off. If Utah can get into some play-off games, win a…[Read more]

  • Agree, no way Utah is currently a top 25 team. Barely squeaking by CU against QB2 at home did not help. Excluding the injuries in key position groups, Utah has several issues to fix during the off season that surely to be discussed at length during the off season.

  • While in some rankings, to date, playing the toughest SOS in college football. If Utah can get a win against CU and a bowl game victory, all things considered it’s been a solid season. Barnes has done everything and more asked of him for his skill set. Kids been a warrior. I lost track of whether he was 3rd or 4th in line at the start of the…[Read more]

Yeah, this fits into the post-season banter category. Not on KWs radar mid-season. Have to think KW addresses the situation early on so Utah can go portal shopping for a 1-2 year QB while the young QBs are developing for 2025. Utah is in an excellent position to land a very good QB in the portal if CR splits. KW’s not going to get played again or…[Read more]

  • Tough loss. Shows where the program is now in terms of talent and depth. The DB room is going to be crazy good next season. Coach Shah and Scalley can’t get enough credit. Shah should be the next DC when KW moves into his consulting role at Utah. Go Utes!

  • Offseason football filler alert.

Wondering if Craig Smith is being set up to succeed at Utah? Not sure why more light isn’t shined on Harlan who was not well liked by the fan base in his later years at USF. Under Harlan’s watch at USF the already bad BB program declined and Harlan was criticized for mismanaging the known academic scandal at USF…[Read more]

  • Agree, IF Utah beats Stanford, as much as I want to see Utah beat UofA through my Crimson beer goggles, that is not happening. Carlsen has carried a big load for this team for most of the season and the wear and tear is showing. Seems whatever the Saunders situation is it continues game to game. Saunders goes off for 25 in the UCLA game scores 8…[Read more]

  • Trailgoat replied to the topic Future UO and Wash in the forum Football 1 year, 7 months ago

Yup, Utes are in good shape. P10 staying together is the right plan. Plenty of time to sort out the short term media deal until the deck gets reshuffled in 2030. No way the BIG pulls the trigger on either of those schools before they see how the USC/UCLA experiment plays out. Makes no financial sense to pay UO and UW equal revenue shares for media…[Read more]

  • Great insight here all around. Seems the media and fans reacting are the main groups all worked up about the P12 not locking down a media deal yet. Patience is key IMO. There is no rush. Big 12 Commish has his social media hit men blasting the P12 trying to scare the four corner schools into a knee jerk decision. I have no problem with the P12…[Read more]

Agree on CS support. Doubt it was an oversight of talent and ability. Guessing there’s more to it. Team ran out of gas last half of the season with injuries, young players, and lack of contributing depth. CS needs a couple more years to solidify the culture, recruit some more athletic players, and clean up the mess he was handed. NIT is a step in…[Read more]

  • If games play out as they should, Utah ends up 7th overall in the P12, 3 spots above the predicted 10th place by the media, coaches??? Starting with the UO game, Utah went 5-10 in the last 15 games (counting last CU game a loss). Two more wins compared to the last 15 games from last season.

After the UO game at home the team pretty much slid down…[Read more]

  • Trailgoat replied to the topic Apple TV in the forum Football 1 year, 7 months ago

Agree, however, Utah has no where to go. Apple, Prime, whatever network is only a stop gap for the next 5-6 years or sooner before the entire system blows up consolidating into a 40 team super conference (or some variation) divided by regions run by Fox, ESPN, and NBC. What does this all mean for Utah, who knows? IMO, the current instability is a…[Read more]

  • Trailgoat replied to the topic Walker Lyons commits in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago

Good for him. Safe choice while his body atrophies over the next two years. I’m sure NIL played a factor. This kid won’t even be BIG game ready for three years from now. Two years off the field and one year to get back into to playing shape. Other than some of the local fans, most of us won’t even remember his name especially with USC playing in…[Read more]

  • Solid breakdown. My 2 cents from the coaches couch. If Utah is to contend for the P!2 Championship they need to do more than break even in key positions. My biggest concerns noted below are Edge, WR, and LB.
QB: Rising healthy by game #1. Johnson and Rose battle for QB2. Spring focus giving these guys reps.
RB: JJ keeps improving, Curry back is…[Read more]

  • Utah not getting out of the Baylor game is a head scratcher. Thankfully Baylor is in rebuild mode. Looking at the schedule collectively, I don’t see one team in the P12 having a significant advantage. The USC end of season bye week is no big deal, USC has a grind to the end. Williams could very well play his last game in the P12 on 11/18. No way…[Read more]

  • Agree, should be interesting to see how Caleb stays focused next season having already won the Heisman and established his NFL value. Top priority has to be not getting hurt. He really has nothing more to prove other than winning a P12 Championship which NFL teams really don’t give a sheest about. I highly doubt we see the same CW running down the…[Read more]
